Book Release Blast for Storm Clouds & Devastation by Ashley James (REVIEW)…….

Readers who enjoy age-gap romances will want to add this emotionally intense contemporary m/m romance to their bookshelf, caught up in the powerful web of a male escort and a childhood friend's father that it promises to weave.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Storm Clouds & Devastation by Ashley James, along with getting my impressions of this second installment in the Hidden Affairs series, then add this new release to your bookshelf!

Jules van der Meer…
He’s somebody I shouldn’t want. Someone I can’t have.
The forbidden fruit. The desire not to be divulged in.
He’s wealthy, successful, important…everything I’m not.
I’m half his age.
Immature and desperate.
It’s what they all say—the men in the night with the fancy clothes and the shiny cars, with enough money to make me do whatever they please.
But him…well, he looks at me like I’m the answer to his prayers. A diamond in the rough.
He doesn’t realize how wrong he is, though.
I’m poison—putrid and vile. I’ll seep into his pores, wrap around his bones, and destroy whatever light he has left until he’s just like me…
Nothing but storm clouds and devastation.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The Hidden Affairs series continues to rip out my heart with this second installment, this time involving an older man who hires his son's ex-best friend as an escort...with this one night just the beginning of an unforgettable connection.  Steamy, gut wrenching at times, this ended up being a powerful story that didn't pull any punches as it depicted the issues of mental health.

Bodhi held my heart in his hands from the very first page to the last.  Seeing his journey through life, the pain he experienced courtesy of a creepy and cruel older brother, had me hurting right alongside him.  He was his own worst enemy at times, hating himself and thinking himself unworthy of happiness.  Constantly pushing others away, those who actually might care for him, has left Bodhi alone...leaving him with too much time to think, but plenty of time to tear himself down in scenes depicting the reality of what it means to deal with mental health issues.  Ms. James pulls no punches in depicting Bodhi's pain, showing his choices and the fallout from those choices in painful detail.  Seeing his pain broke my heart and had me wanting to hug his pain away, show him that he's worthy of love in an epic journey that left me battered and bruised...but oh so satisfied.

Jules is just starting his life anew and is immediately drawn to Bodhi the moment he sees him.  He's a strong and commanding man, a strong support to Bodhi...when Bodhi in fact lets him in.  He's just learning to navigate his life and I became quickly invested in his personal journey and how it affects Bodhi.  There’s a lot of push/pull between them as Bodhi led Jules down a rocky road leading to his heart and soul.  From the first page to the last I liked seeing these two together, found their connection an epic bond that kept me glued to the pages of their heartfelt and sensual journey to HEA.

My rating for this is an A-

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Fans of sports romances will find much to enjoy about this hockey-fueled romance of the slow burn connection between neighbors and their place in the hockey world that brings them together, the secrets and the personal needs that make them who they are.  Witty banter, characters unafraid of showing their true selves, and a lovable dog who steals every scene she's in will take readers on a heartfelt journey that fueled all sorts of emotions in me...leaving me immensely satisfied by the turn of the final page.

Vivienne's a strong-willed heroine, one whose family lives and breathes hockey.  Wanting a respite from all of that though, wanting to bathe in her true desire of being a writer, Vivienne buys a boat and finds herself writing a new ending to her own personal story after meeting her new neighbor...former hockey star, Xavier.  Vivienne's the perfect match for Xavier despite their apparent differences.  She's happy with where her life is, content and not afraid to show it.

Xavier just wants to be left alone when readers first see him...be alone with just his dog, Beatrice.  Despite wanting to be a hermit, he's drawn to Vivienne and a tentative friendship soon begins which slowly turns steamy.  Throughout their time together Vivienne's a strong support to him, never pushing him to reveal his personal truths but listening without judgment as he reveals his heartbreaking past.  Xavier's past is one that revolves around hockey and it's one that's very timely in 2023 with other athletes revealing similar truths.  For Xavier, hockey was once everything to him...until the pressure and the public condemnation became too much.  The judgements of others, and the lack of support from his team and coaches, led to depression and thoughts of suicide in a story that broke my heart and had me wanting to hug him.  For his own well-being he left it all behind, but with Vivienne and her family's support, he gets pulled back into the world he once ran from...with this time around being very different as the power of love envelops him in its supportive hug.  I adored Xavier!  He's sexy, strong, and wasn't afraid to show his vulnerable side.  He wasn't afraid to walk away as he knew he needed to do so to survive.  The feelings he experienced were vividly depicted and pulled at my heartstrings.  His inner dialogue, and interactions with Beatrice, pulled me into his life even further and left me rooting for him to find happiness...which led him to Vivienne and interactions that warmed my heart and made me smile.

The majority of this book deals with the burgeoning romance between Vivienne and Xavier and oh what a wonderful romance it is!  It's a slow-burn between them in a romance that builds through secrets being revealed and support being given.  Along with an emotional connection there's a lot of steamy encounters and witty banter that made for a decadently delightful tale.  Along with an unforgettable main couple there's the wonderfully supportive Grant family as well as the entire Dallas hockey team, men who have Xavier's back without question.  The last part of the book has Xavier re-entering the world of hockey and it kept me on the edge of my seat while rooting for him to find a HEA on the ice as well as off the ice.  To be honest, it's Beatrice who steals the story though.  With her charm, her love, and her support I wanted to hug her over and over for being there for Xavier throughout all those lonely years.

My rating for this is an A.

Book Release Blitz for Chasing Riptides by Aly Stiles (REVIEW)………

Readers will find themselves captivated by this friends to lovers rockstar romance, drawn to the characters whose lives were put through the wringer.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Chasing Riptides by Aly Stiles, along with getting my impressions of this epic romance, then add this sixth installment in the Save Me series to your bookshelf too!

MATTY

Rockstar. Heartthrob. Liability.

I’m the face, the body, a trophy for the masses.

They love to admire me, and I play the part like a pro. I can be whatever I have to be to survive.

But I’m not real. None of this is. How can it be with a past like mine? They think they know me, but no one does. The best I can do is chase another woman, substance, or scandal to escape the truth for one more day.

BRITT

I’ve loved Matty Silva from the moment a scared, blond kid from Brazil showed up in our second-grade class. While the world lusts for the gorgeous, troubled rockstar, it’s the sad, lonely boy trapped inside who stole my heart.

The boy I loved too much to ever tell him.

That boy is now a superstar being worshipped for something he’s not. They will never understand the pain he carries with each breath, and I saw the terrifying truth the second he returned home for the summer:

No one can spiral like Matty can, and it’s finally about to break him.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Wow!  What an epic read this was, an unforgettable tale of one man who seems to have it all but is still determined to destroy himself.  Set in the rockstar world there's plenty of ways for this man to destroy himself and with each fake smile he flashes, each betrayal he experiences, my heart broke more and more for him.  With each turn of the page I was taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, from wonderful highs to depressive lows, all leading up to an immensely satisfying conclusion and another winner from Ms. Stiles!

Brittany Esposito and Matty Silva have been in each other's lives since they were young and she befriended him as the new boy in school.  Theirs was a powerful connection from the very beginning, a connection that has stood the test of time as their pairing has bent but never broken as they've gotten older.  As kids, where every school day involved bullying and home life was full of rejection and coldness, Matty had Britt and it's always been her brightness to the darkness creeping into his life.  Britt's an amazing heroine, one who's strong and supportive, quick to defend Matty through words and deeds that had me cheering her on every step of the way.  She's always been his guiding star, telling him hard truths, while always supporting him and trying to show him his true worth.  First and foremost Britt is Matty's friend, but with each year that passes the feelings she has for him have grown into a more adult love.  For her, it's becoming harder and harder to ignore how she feels about him, how much closer she wants to be to him.  With Matty struggling more and more though, the HEA she's hoping for might not happen in their epic and angsty journey.

Matty's an unforgettable hero, one who broke my heart over and over while hearing his inner thoughts and feelings. To the world Matty's a rock god, a sexy beast dripping with sensuality, the face and body that drives the women wild.  Behind the sexy facade though is a man full of self-doubts, a man who thinks he's nothing more than a sexy shell with no substance.  Britt knows the truth though, knows he's super smart and talented, and continually tries to get him to see that truth too in scenes that made me want to hug him.  Matty's journey throughout this book was hard to witness and it was painful to see the hanger-ons use his body and soul for their own gains.  The issues he was dealing with were vividly depicted, respectfully portrayed, and many readers out there will find a strong connection to what he was going through.  What doesn't kill you makes you stronger and from some very dark places Matty made his way out.  With Britt's unwavering support he became the man she always knew him to be in a beautiful ending that I'm still thinking about!

Book Release Blast for Good Trouble by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)…….

Two people form a connection on the night of her prom when they were young, a connection that's only grown stronger and become more conflicted over the years.  With her marriage to his brother, his return from Afghanistan, and a horrific night that shows her who she's truly meant to be with, readers will find themselves on the edge of their seats in an angsty tale set within the MC world.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Good Trouble by Lani Lynn Vale, along with getting my impressions of this exhilarating and emotionally intense tale, then add this second installment in the Gator Bait series to your bookshelf!

Bain met Diana, a.k.a. Luce, the night before he was set to deploy to Afghanistan.
It’s not every day that you take your brother’s girlfriend to prom because he refuses to put out the effort.
That night was one of the best nights of his life and the next day, he leaves and doesn’t see her again.
But there are letters. Not many, but enough for them to form a connection.
Over the two-year deployment, they became great friends.
The best of friends—at least, as good of friends as you can be when it’s your brother’s wife. Fast-forward six years and she still counts him as one of her greatest friends. Even going as far as to stick by him when he’s sent to prison because his own brother turned on him.
***
Luce had a crush on her then-boyfriend’s brother since way before she and Bain’s brother were married. From the moment he volunteered to take her to prom, she’d fallen.
Over the years, she’d tried to hide it. Tried to go on with her life and act like she loved her husband and only her husband. But as time went on and Braxton started to treat her more and more like crap, she realized the truth. Her husband wasn’t Bain. Her husband would never be him.
Hell, that’d been proven time and time again.
The smoking gun, though? The thing that made her realize it was time to leave?
When her husband stood by while she was assaulted, while the man she tried to act like was just a friend protected her. Then was sentenced to eight years in jail for it.
It was time to admit the truth.
Bain McDempsey was it for her. She just had to help him see it. Oh, and get him out of prison first.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

When it comes to emotionally intense tales full of heart and soul, tales that pull you in courtesy of characters you can see yourself in, I know I can always count on Lani Lynn Vale to put me through the wringer...in a really good way.  With this new series Ms. Vale has crafted another winner, another tale of a romance meant to be, and the incredible journey it took to get there!  With each turn of the page my heart was warmed, my anger was fueled, and a smile was put on my face, all while I was falling in love with this unforgettable main couple.

Bain McDempsey has been a part of Luce's life since she was a teen, brother to her boyfriend and her knight in shining armor on the night of her prom.  From that moment on he's always been there for her, no matter the thousands of miles separating them. He's a great friend, saying exactly what she needs to hear as she deals with her own demons.  He's a strong support to her, uber protective, both mentally and physically...especially when she's assaulted and he's the one who comes to her rescue (instead of her husband-his brother).  His actions that day had him making the ultimate sacrifice for Luce and his words and deeds throughout the story made me love him all the more as he proved himself the quintessential hero.  He's a sweet and sexy man, one who subtly and boldly showed his feelings to the world regarding Luce and who easily earned his place on my list of book boyfriends.

Luce too is an unforgettable part of this pairing with a chemistry that crackled from the very start.  She was drawn to Bain from the very beginning, won over by his kind heart and caring words.  She never felt worthy of him though, battling the demons in her head, which had her settling for Bain's brother.  Years of unhappiness, battles with her depression, finally had her coming out the other side though in an emotionally satisfying revelation that had her finally going after what her heart knew all along...that she and Bain were meant to be.  It's a difficult life journey for Luce, one that Ms. Vale realistically and respectfully depicted and that had me aching for her when the thoughts in her head became particularly weighty.  On a whole she's an immensely likable heroine, brave and loyal, and I was cheering her on every step of the way as she bravely battled every high and low thrown her way.

By the turn of the final page I was exhausted, but satisfied, by all that came before in this angst-fueled journey of friends to lovers.  The main couple captivated me from the very start, invested me in their unwavering connection to one another, showing them to be there for each other when they needed support most.  Their love was meant to be and I was so happy to see them both fighting for their HEA as the story took even more dangerous turns.  Theirs was a hard-fought journey to HEA, a journey that played with every one of my emotions, and left me in awe once again at the knots the talented Ms. Vale twists us readers into.  Along with this unforgettable main couple was a character you definitely booed...Bain's brother, Braxton.  He was despicable and cruel, fueled the negativity in Luce's mind, and I hated him for everything he did to her and his own brother.  Later in the story danger once again comes for Luce and Bain in scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat along with keeping me guessing.  From exhilaration to steamy encounters to laugh out loud moments...this book has it all and it has me excited for what comes next.  The interactions between the members of the Gator Bait MC were brotherly, supportive, with witty and playful banter that made them feel like a family.  Though this branch of the family was a bit dysfunctional at first they quickly showed themselves to be decadently delightful in a romance that still makes me smile for how perfectly imperfect Bain and Luce are!

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The Savage U series has been an emotional smorgasbord for readers and this latest release just adds to the intensity.  Readers get pulled in wholeheartedly to the collegiate world where you try to blend your youth with your impending adulthood, becoming who you're meant to be.  For Elena, it's been a particularly rocky journey with a lot of emotional baggage that we learn about throughout this book and that had me admiring her all the more because of it.  Lachlan too shows himself to be more than what readers have seen before, an imperfect man who ends up being perfect for Elena despite the antagonism  between them early on.  With each turn of the page an epic romance is revealed, an epic journey of personal growth for two apparent opposites who are more than what they show the world.  By the final page this book has proven itself to be an unforgettable tale, one that leaves a mark on readers, heart and soul.

Elena Sanderson's a bold and sassy young woman, someone readers have seen throughout many books as she's left an indelible mark in Ms. Wolf's literary world.  Reader's first glimpse of her (way back when) showed an entitled young lady, a bully, and someone who wasn't very likable.  She came from a life of privilege where everything seemed perfect, but the reality was vastly different.  Her tough exterior was an armor to the truth, a truth that's slowly revealed here.  Elena goes from being someone readers are booing to someone readers are cheering as the curtain is pulled away and the truth of what she's feeling and dealt with is revealed in heartfelt moments with a man she never expected to find a connection with.  The truth of what Elena's dealt with was heartbreaking and it had me wanting her to be hugged.  To see this dichotomy of her bold talking and carrying a big stick (or in actuality, a bat) with someone clearly hurting over a lifetime of hurts, made for an epic journey of character growth and made Elena bigger than life for me.

Lachlan Kelly's a big brute of a guy, quiet yet caring and protective.  He loves with his whole heart, is steady and reliable, and is more than ready to be done with college so he can return home.  Knowing he'll soon be leaving has him keeping things casual when it comes to women, has him keeping the small group of friends he has and uninterested in making any more.  His feelings regarding Elena at the start are based on the tough exterior she's always shown the world.  He knows of her nasty behavior in high school and has no desire to associate with her beyond their similar group of friends.  But fate has other plans, and when she becomes roommates with his best friend as well as his next door neighbor, they can't help but interact.  And oh, what interactions readers get to see!  Steamy encounters, and slow reveals of the layers that make up both of them, make for an epic story that pulled every one of my heartstrings.  Lachlan is a fixer by nature, but Elena's the kind of woman who can stand up for herself which confuses him at times and has him stumbling in ways that hurt her and leave him groveling for forgiveness.  He's an imperfect hero who always tries to do the right thing but sometimes puts his foot in his mouth, a realistic character who was drool-worthy and the newest addition to my book boyfriend list. He's got his own baggage, things that make him closed off, and seeing him and Elena bond over their similar issues was a special thing to see.

This was a powerful and engaging read, one that can be read on its own but is made much richer if you read the previous books.  The character growth of Elena is one of the best parts of this book and is something you want to see from the beginning.  Issues of mental health are dealt with here too, handled in a realistic and respectful way, dealt with head-on but not overtaking the storyline.  Along with heavy emotional issues is a sizzling romance between Elena and Lachlan, a romance that is sweet and sexy, one that has them growing closer over interludes of sharing their pasts.  Theirs is a rocky road to HEA, one that kept me guessing and hoping that they can make things work until the turn of the final page.  On a whole this was a powerful read, one with unforgettable characters with emotions that were slowly laid bare to pull readers in to this amazing world Ms. Wolf has crafted.  It's a book, and a series, that I wholeheartedly recommend and am ready to reread myself!

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The moment I started reading this book is the moment I knew I was in for the ride of a lifetime as the death of their "father" leads to an unforgettable night for a compelling pair, a night of giving into temptation followed by an uncomfortable road trip that opens up painful wounds.  For Emma and Link, this is a tale full of angst as the author deals with mental health in vivid detail.  But it's also a heartwarming tale of acceptance and love that pulled at my heartstrings.

As a rockstar Emma seems to have it all, but beneath the glitz and glam surface is a woman struggling with self-worth.  Courtesy of a childhood seeped in abandonment Emma's always felt unworthy of love and that she's destined to be alone.  These feelings are compounded by a mental illness that becomes blatantly obvious as the story progresses.  Emma's a heartbreaking character with a past that broke my heart and a vividly depicted mental illness that involved self-harm, depression, and even more self-destructive behavior fueled by Link's rejection of her after their night together.  Their road trip together led to some emotional talks along with a time of closeness that Emma relished, a time that showed her vulnerabilities that had me wanting to hug her.

Link seems to be her opposite as a man who shows himself capable and self-sufficient. He's riddled with guilt though over his long-term attraction to Emma, an attraction he gave into during a moment of grief and that has him ultimately rejecting Emma in an act that frustrated me.  During their road trip he was at war with himself over perceived obligations to his father as well as what he himself wanted.  Add in her mental health issues, and his concerns over if he can truly have a relationship with her, and it all makes for a story full of angst.  Throughout the story Link was a man slow to let others in and I was grateful for his friends in Shattered Cove who pushed him to listen to his heart when it came to Emma.  He eventually showed himself to be a real hero, a supportive and protective man, in words and deeds that warmed my heart.

Though this is the sixth installment in the Shattered Cove series it stands strongly on its own in its dealings with mental health.  It's a tale full of angst, a story that doesn't pull any punches when it comes to depicting the depression and self-harming aspects of mental illness.  It's a romance that's sweet and scorching at times, a romance that pulls at my heartstrings while ultimately making for a richly rewarding romance.  This was my first time reading A.M. Kusi but it definitely won't be my last as this was a powerful romance with a compelling main couple who I'm still thinking of!

My rating for this is an A.
