Book Release Blitz for No Cap by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)……

Ms. Vale is back with another family that readers will be clamoring for after glimpses given throughout the author's previous series.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of No Cap by Lani Lynn Vale, along with my impressions of it, then add this first installment in the Carter Brothers series to your bookshelf!

You know when you see that big red flag, and you think to yourself, I should probably not go anywhere near there?
Yeah, Quincy Carter ignored that big red flag. He walked right up to that red flag, waving blatantly in the wind, and kissed the holy hell out of her.
Sure, he probably should’ve arrested her for breaking a restraining order.
He probably also should’ve stopped her from continuing to break that restraining order.
Yet...he can’t.
By the time he realizes he’s in deep, Quincy has no other options but to ride the wave of continuous disaster that is Hollis Aue.
***
Hollis Aue is on the road to revenge.
After a famous comedian rips her best friend in the middle of his biggest show ever and elevated her disabilities to the butt of his joke, her best friend spirals.
After finding out from a kindhearted detective that her best friend took her own life, Hollis makes it her new mission to make that comedian’s life a living hell.
The only problem with that is Detective Quincy Carter with the Dallas Police Department insinuates himself into her life, making it impossible for her to achieve her goals.
Try as she might, she can’t shake him, and soon, the lines between hate and love start to blur.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

At the conclusion of Ms. Vale's previous series it was clear that readers weren't done with the new family introduced towards the end.  The Carter brothers take center stage here with a likable tale of opposites attracting as the good guy cop finds himself drawn to the wild child heroine with a painful past.  With a heartbreaking start readers will quickly get swept up in a romance with the perfect balance of fun and flirty banter along with steamy encounters.  Add in bits of suspense and mystery and you end up with a solid series starter!

Quincy Carter is a drool-worthy hero, a dedicated and hardworking detective with a heart of gold.  He knows that he and Hollis shouldn't work, but he just doesn't care and wants her despite her criminal behavior.  He's a good support to Hollis and gets her when no one else does in a romance that made me smile and blush a time or two.  Hollis Aue has had a lifetime of pain, been on her own with virtually no one in her corner...until one person became her unlikely friend.  When the cruelty of another leads to a gut-wrenching choice though, Hollis is left reeling and out for revenge.  Through every vengeful encounter, Hollis finds herself staring Quincy down...and more than ready to do more with him in a sizzling connection that weathered all the ups and downs.  Hollis is a blunt person who tells it like it is, a tough girl exterior with a hidden soft side that Quincy brings out.  I very much liked her and could easily understand why she wanted revenge.  She's a loyal person with few people who care about her, so I could relate to and appreciate that fierce loyalty.  These two may seem like opposites but they fit beautifully together.

On a whole this was an entertaining series starter with a strong main couple who brought out the best in each other.  Their romance was both sizzling with moments of sweetness sprinkled in along with banter that amplified the sexual tension.  The only speed bump in my journey of enjoyment was the rather rushed ending.  It was a bit jarring, but until that moment there's much to like about this book and I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the family!

My rating for this is a B+

Darkness is gnawing at my soul. The shadows swallow me a little more each day. But someone needs to destroy Elana Elidi. And I may be the only one who can. There’s a spell to stop her from destroying the remaining Ordulls. But it requires a sacrifice from my true love. The problem is—who does my heart belong to—Jadox or Isaac?

EXCERPT:

Terrified of making any sudden movements, I crossed the room at a snail’s pace. Kyra patted the floor beside her without taking those obsidian eyes off me. Haunting, unnatural eyes.
Another shudder threatened to rip through me, but I held it back, using all my energy not to spook her. One wrong move might push the thing possessing her to lash out. As a child, I had heard Gemm tell a story about spirits, but it was only supposed to be a fairytale.
I gulped down what felt like a pile of stones and carefully sat beside her. The healing spell was at the tip of my tongue, but I didn’t want to scare her. Instead, I silently chanted Terra angakok. Terra angakok, again and again, praying to the Divinity above that it would save her from whatever monster bewitched her body. It didn’t work. Kyra stared at me like an empty shell.
My heart rammed chaotically against my chest. I needed help. Reinforcements. Where was fuckin’ Nilson when we actually needed him? Maybe if I distracted her, it’d break the stupor. Terror seized my soul, and I didn’t move a single muscle. What the Flames was I supposed to do? If I touched her, would she snap out of the trance? Had someone cursed her? Why were her eyes the color of death? Sweat dripped down my back, and time ceased to exist.
“Hallie wants me to buy a puppy.” She stroked my dog’s head again and again. The sweetness of her voice had an actual scent; it was like ice cream dipped in poison and spider webs.
“Kyra, Hallie died. She’s not here anymore. I think we should go to bed and —"
“No!” she bellowed. “I don’t have to go to sleep. I don’t have to choose one of you! I don’t have to save anyone.”
I clenched my fists into balls by my side, then released them. Clenched. Released. There was a fundamental wrongness in the air. Gemm had never taught me how to deal with dark Magik as a child. This wasn’t something I had ever trained for. It was time for a new approach.
“Kyra, it’s okay. I think you’re sleepwalking,” I pleaded, hearing the uncertainty in my voice.
She laughed, but the sound was foreign to my ears, veiled in jagged, harsh edges. “No, I’m awake, right, Hallie?”
If I knocked her unconscious and carried her inside, maybe Narelle or Caspian would have a solution. Or we could call Gemm. But there was no chance I’d leave her here alone to search for them.
“What if I die soon?” Kyra asked, her tone sweeter than a scrumptious pie. “What?”
Her gaze latched onto all my fears. That fraudulent smile returned, slithering up her face and claiming it. I had to stop this. Whatever controlled Kyra was taking another piece of her with every passing moment.

Book Release Blast for Storm Clouds & Devastation by Ashley James (REVIEW)…….

Readers who enjoy age-gap romances will want to add this emotionally intense contemporary m/m romance to their bookshelf, caught up in the powerful web of a male escort and a childhood friend's father that it promises to weave.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Storm Clouds & Devastation by Ashley James, along with getting my impressions of this second installment in the Hidden Affairs series, then add this new release to your bookshelf!

Jules van der Meer…
He’s somebody I shouldn’t want. Someone I can’t have.
The forbidden fruit. The desire not to be divulged in.
He’s wealthy, successful, important…everything I’m not.
I’m half his age.
Immature and desperate.
It’s what they all say—the men in the night with the fancy clothes and the shiny cars, with enough money to make me do whatever they please.
But him…well, he looks at me like I’m the answer to his prayers. A diamond in the rough.
He doesn’t realize how wrong he is, though.
I’m poison—putrid and vile. I’ll seep into his pores, wrap around his bones, and destroy whatever light he has left until he’s just like me…
Nothing but storm clouds and devastation.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The Hidden Affairs series continues to rip out my heart with this second installment, this time involving an older man who hires his son's ex-best friend as an escort...with this one night just the beginning of an unforgettable connection.  Steamy, gut wrenching at times, this ended up being a powerful story that didn't pull any punches as it depicted the issues of mental health.

Bodhi held my heart in his hands from the very first page to the last.  Seeing his journey through life, the pain he experienced courtesy of a creepy and cruel older brother, had me hurting right alongside him.  He was his own worst enemy at times, hating himself and thinking himself unworthy of happiness.  Constantly pushing others away, those who actually might care for him, has left Bodhi alone...leaving him with too much time to think, but plenty of time to tear himself down in scenes depicting the reality of what it means to deal with mental health issues.  Ms. James pulls no punches in depicting Bodhi's pain, showing his choices and the fallout from those choices in painful detail.  Seeing his pain broke my heart and had me wanting to hug his pain away, show him that he's worthy of love in an epic journey that left me battered and bruised...but oh so satisfied.

Jules is just starting his life anew and is immediately drawn to Bodhi the moment he sees him.  He's a strong and commanding man, a strong support to Bodhi...when Bodhi in fact lets him in.  He's just learning to navigate his life and I became quickly invested in his personal journey and how it affects Bodhi.  There’s a lot of push/pull between them as Bodhi led Jules down a rocky road leading to his heart and soul.  From the first page to the last I liked seeing these two together, found their connection an epic bond that kept me glued to the pages of their heartfelt and sensual journey to HEA.

My rating for this is an A-

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for an engaging story, with a heartwarming romance set in a small town, get all that and more with this series starter that ticked many boxes for me.  The storyline was one full of twists and turns, turns that were both suspenseful and romantic, turns that brought a tear to my eye while putting a smile on my face.  In this story of second chances readers will find themselves captivated from the first page to the last, cheering this couple on as they find their way back to each other after years of emotional pain.

Lucas Carson and Simone Hensley were once in love, tightly bound together before her brother Aiden and he were deployed to Afghanistan and everything turned bad for the young couple.  War is hell at times and it left Lucas and Aiden with PTSD...seemingly leading to Aiden's suicide and years of Lucas and Simone not talking.  Her returning home to care for her injured grandmother though leads to her reuniting with Lucas at a time when he needs her help most...when he's been framed for a crime he didn't commit. Just as he needs her to convey an image of a responsible family man, she needs him for the same to get her online business off the ground which leads to a fake relationship that slowly turns oh so real once again.  Theirs is a bumpy journey to HEA, one that has them addressing their painful pasts in an attempt to move forward.  The issues dealt with here are realistic and a big part of today's culture.  The fallout from these issues was heartbreaking, led to years of loneliness, and I hurt alongside this couple as they talked through their pasts to find healing.  The mystery surrounding the crime Lucas is accused of is intriguing, the guilty party well-disguised, and the REAL reason behind it surprisingly connected to the past in a storyline that kept me frantically turning the pages.

On a whole this was an immensely satisfying series starter with a very likable main couple who get put through the wringer to reach their HEA.  The mystery and suspense was fresh and well-crafted with a nicely balanced romance that was sweet and sensual. The secondary characters were also strong with delightful and supportive banter between the brothers.  Those looking for a well-rounded read will definitely want to add this one to their bookshelf while waiting to see where life takes these brothers next!

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

While picking up right where the previous book in this duet left off, things turn even more emotional here as readers get deeper insight into the characters.  In the previous book Cavanugh seemed like a stereotype but in this book we get to see a more fleshed-out character.  The reasons why Cavanugh does what he does, acts the way he does, are clearer here and I found myself liking him more and finding him to be a stronger person this time around.  That's not to say that he won't do what needs to be done to skew things his way, but the reasoning behind it doesn't bother me as much throughout this story as it did before.  Other characters too showed themselves to be stronger as this story progressed.  One of them, Connor, has finally come to the truth regarding Thomas and I was proud of him for making things right.  The maturity of these two showed through in a romance that felt more realistic, more rich, as seen through interactions that were more loving, caring, and supportive.  They were a formidable pairing, one that I was rooting for every step of the way.  Their togetherness made my heart sing....when it wasn't pulling at my heartstrings that is....in a fun and flirty romance full of heart and soul.

Along with this captivating main couple were the equally appealing secondary characters of Chloe and Jase, friends and family members who are the glue holding these two young men together (both as a couple and separately).  Both of these characters are kind and loving with Chloe being there for Cavanugh from the very beginning to Jase who was unwaveringly supportive of his brother Connor from the start and was a young man wise beyond his years.  On a whole this was a story full of angst, a story of accepting the person you are inside, while accepting love from whoever wraps you in its warm embrace.  After each turn of the page, and a story that pushed all my emotional buttons, readers are rewarded with a flawless epilogue that tied up all that came before beautifully.  When it comes to an unforgettable m/m romance, Ms. Lowe has placed herself on a pedestal with this captivating tale that fans of this genre will be recommending for years to come.

My rating for this is an A+

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

This was a tough read from the very first page, an angsty read full of poor decisions, misunderstandings, and all the usual difficulties of growing up.  What added even further to the angst of this story was Connor's open homosexuality, the hiding of other's sexuality, and all the heartbreaking decisions made that frustrated me one moment while pulling at my heartstrings the next.  And just when you think you know where things are going Ms. Lowe pulls no punches in her jaw on the floor cliffhanger ending.

Connor Siddell is in fact a good boy, someone with a kind and protective heart.  He's new in town after living through tragic events, trying to start over while living openly as a gay young man.  He luckily discovers someone to help ease his heart and soul on a dating app which leads to lots of romantic drama.  The one dark spot is Cavanaugh McLaughlin, fellow classmate who shows a lot of anger and hatred towards.  Though Connor doesn't understand what fuels Cav's rage, it definitely complicates things from the very start and ends up being just one piece to the cliffhanger ending.  Cav's a complicated character, one I didn't really care for at the start.  He's a Senator's son whose life is decided for him.  He's a popular bad boy with the tattoos to prove it while he commits deeds of bullying that made him occasionally unlikable.  There's a lot of pain hiding behind his hurtful behavior though, lots of stories about him, about his friends, and it all leads to inner conflicts about what he wants his life to be and who he wants to admit to being.  Things take a big turn for him once Connor discovers the truth about Cav and the attraction Cav feels for him.  It's a sizzling connection between them but one that doesn't go smoothly as Cav fights the truth of his feelings in a journey that broke my heart.

Cav and Con are a compelling main couple whose connection is put through the wringer in a tale that pulled at my heartstrings.  There was never a guaranteed HEA for these two as there was a lot of push/pull between them which left me on edge the entire time I saw them together.  Surrounding this larger than life main couple was a cast of intriguing secondary characters like Jase, Connor's brother who was loyal and loving, someone who becomes a surprisingly strong support to Cav as the story progresses. Cav's friend Thomas was someone who left me enraged as his supposed friendship often saw him being manipulative and hurtful while constantly getting between him and Connor.  His actions scared me and his presence ultimately fueled the painfully jaw-dropping ending.  I'm now left waiting for a resolution to that tragic cliffhanger, waiting in breathless anticipation to a powerful tale that packs an emotional wallop!

My rating for this is a B-
