Book Tour for One Plus One by Kay Dee Royal (Review & GIVEAWAY)

It's another day of steaminess here at my blog courtesy of Kay Dee Royal and her short story, One Plus One.  Kay Dee is here talking about what draws readers to erotic romance as well as giving away a copy of the book to those telling her what you look for in erotic romance.  So get reading and commenting....

Before I get started with my guest post, I’d like to thank The Scarf Princess for having me here today…and also I’d like to thank everyone stopping in to visit…let me introduce myself - I’m Kay Dee Royal, an erotic romance author who writes what I love, paranormal, fantasy, and contemporary erotic romance. I’m here today with a guest post relative to One Plus One, my latest contemporary erotic romance. I’ll definitely be looking for some your thoughts on this subject…
What Do You Look For in an Erotic Romance?
There are a few things I don’t like…intimate scenes before I know the players and an unsatisfying ending…like there’s no happiness. Geesh…I read for an escape to a happy place living vicariously through the story-stars. (LOL) Don’t we all?
I know there are many genres that expect open endings and such…something to keep the reader on edge with their thinking. I get it…but it isn’t something I expect from a romance.
I’m a real push-over for a happily-ever-after ending…or at the least a happy-for-now ending. So, now that you know how I like my endings, how about what’s inside…the hotness of it all, the erotic part of the story…
I look for story-stars with enough back-story and history plugs within the story that I can pleasingly connect and pull myself into their story…this is what everyone hopes for in a romance, and erotic romances should be no exception.  Most especially, I want to connect to the hero and heroine to give those steamy love scenes even more meaning in their building relationship.
Yes, I definitely want steamy…sizzling hot love scenes, lots of tension getting there, but I also want a reason for it all to be happening, to understand the draw the hero and heroine have toward each other. In other words, the ‘why’ of it needs to make sense to me ;)
Now it’s your turn. What do you look for in an erotic romance? I’d love to hear your take on it.

Coerced by her friend, Lacinda, a woman crushed by love, winds up on a three-week singles cruise.
Blade, a man of means, discovers Miss Right under the guise of a singles cruise set up by his business partner.
Once Blade focuses his efforts he always gets what he’s after, until Lacinda throws his arrogant reputation back in his face.
Can Blade break through Lacinda’s angry barriers? Will she ever see him as anything more than a player?

EXCERPT:

“Lacinda Gainesly,” a steward called her name. She saw the sign he held with her name printed in bright purple. She slipped on the first step leading down onto the ship and stumbled past the steward. The sign dropped from his fingers and his arms latched around her body from behind. His quick reflexes saved her face from biting the deck, but his hands cupped both of her breasts and squeezed. Lacinda threw her elbow back into his side.
“Hey, a little respect for the guy who saved your life.”
Lacinda shrugged out of his grasp. She met his gaze and realized this was the same man who picked her up from her hotel in a long black limo, only then he was dressed in black instead of the white uniform he now wore.
“You’re the driver.”
“I’m a lot of things, like possibly a hero.” His eyes looked as happy as his lips.
She noticed his smile, the same he shared earlier when he asked her questions about why she took the cruise quiz. Lacinda thought he was simply a driver for the cruise company so she shared some of her story. He knew about Alex dying in a car crash on the way to their wedding. She searched her memory for anything else she might have shared which could embarrass her later.
“Alas fair maiden, your chambers await your timely arrival,” he said, faking a British accent. He held his gloved hand out. Lacinda refused it.
“I’m ready for my quarters.” She needed relaxation, maybe take a nice hot scented bath and get prepared for the swing of things, anything to distract her from the past that never left her alone.
“As you wish, my lady,” he said, again with a British accent. The steward turned, led her across the deck, and down a stairway. She saw men and women following other stewards or each other. Once on board everyone began mingling, even flirting, judging by the tinkling female laughter and deep manly chuckles.
“There will be an announcement left under your door regarding tonight’s dinner seating arrangements. May you enjoy your day and make sure you take time for a relaxing massage. There’s always a masseuse available. Their extension is listed beside your phone. You’ll find your room key there as well.”
Lacinda followed him down a narrow hallway until he stopped in front of a door with an elegantly scrolled number 216.
“This is you. May I answer any questions before I go?”
Lacinda dug in her purse for a tip. Clueless on how much was appropriate and not wanting to give him anything. He got his gratuity when he copped a feel of her breasts.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THE BOOK:

This book is definitely steamy!  Off the chart steamy! Along with that comes some surprisingly emotional moments particularly where Lacinda is concerned. Having lost her husband on their wedding day it's fortuitous that she wins a  cruise where all your sexual fantasies are encouraged.  I liked seeing her transformation from a quiet and staid woman to someone more wanton.

I just wish she had connected to someone a bit more worthy.  Blade is a wealthy man who's tired of women wanting him only for his money.  Because of this he's leery of Lacinda.  He pretends to be a totally different man so it's hard to see the real man behind the lies.

Because of my dislike of Blade I never really felt this was a love story.  It's more of a lust story which works well with the fantasy-like feel of the storyline.  With its likable heroine and decadently delightful sexual encounters I still found this a fun read.  It's not big on substance but it's exactly what you want when you're wanting to have some vacation time of your own.

My rating for this is a C+

    1. Even though Blade didn't work for me I thoroughly enjoyed Lacinda and her coming back to life after the unexpected events that happened. And of course the steamy scenes that you write so well also made up for my unhappiness with Blade. I've enjoyed so many of your other books, and found some positive things with this book, so I'm definitely still a fan and look forward to your next release.

Thank YOU for being here with your busy writing schedule and I wish you a wonderful holiday too!

  3. Congrats. Kay Dee, on the new release. One Plus One sounds intriguing. Can't wait to read it. Alex died on his way to the wedding so he and Lucinda weren't ever married, correct?
I like love, lust, humor, and a good story in an erotic romance.
Thanks for the excerpt and giveaway.
