The Race is On by Lily Velden Treasure Hunt (GIVEAWAY)

I am honored to bring Lily Velden back today to talk about her new release, The Race is On, along with announcing an AWESOME GIVEAWAY associated with its upcoming release.  So keep reading and make sure to join in the giveaway fun......

Hello again, everyone!
Just when you thought it was safe to come out of hiding… That darn Lily Velden goes on a pre-release promo trail again!
Between now and 9th August, 2013, I’ll be popping up all over the place again!
Rather than bore you all stupid with more information about me than you ever wanted to know, I’ve decided to host a Treasure Hunt.
The only thing, I’d like to mention about THE RACE IS ON to anyone considering reading it, is please read Book 1: Same Page first. That isn’t a ploy to rack up more sales – the story was originally written as one epic saga, but with an end page count of nigh on 700, it was a tad too long for a debut romance novel. Terrific for a fantasy novel, LOL, but not M/M romance!
With THE RACE IS ON some clarifying of who the secondary characters are and how they relate to Jaxon and Liam, the main characters, is done, but there is also a lot of assumed knowledge. Without having read SAME PAGE, some of the context will be lost as you will be jumping in half way through the boys’ story. And, of course, by reading the first book in the series you will have gotten to know the boys, so some of their actions and decisions in book two will make more sense!
Okay, so enough of the author blathering on! On to the fun stuff!

THE TRIO TREASURE HUNT!
I’ve kept the rules and clues simple as I want it to be fun and not a chore, and I’ve tried to make the “treasure” worth pursuing!
There are mini prizes along the way, as well as, two major prizes at the end......

PRIZES:

Mini Prizes: At each stop on the hunt you can enter the draw to win an open voucher redeemable with Dreamspinner Press of $6.99.
All you have to do is leave a comment!
Winner will be drawn within 7 days of my visit!

Major Prizes: By participating in the TRIO Treasure Hunt, collecting all four answers and logging them in on my blog by the 8th August you will be in the draw to win a $25 open voucher redeemable with Dreamspinner Press. There are two up for grabs!

COME AND JOIN THE FUN!

Okay, here goes!

TRIO TREASURE HUNT:

There are only four stops on the Treasure Hunt.
At each stop you will be given an excerpt to read from THE RACE IS ON (TRIO)
Contained within the excerpt is the answer to a question / clue which will be asked at the end, and don’t worry, I will make it easy!!!
Each answer will only consist of ONE word.
Each word/answer is part of a four word sentence that relates to THE RACE IS ONBy the end of the Hunt you will have the entire sentence!
Write that sentence in the comment box provided on my blog and you are in the draw!
Winners drawn and notified 9th August, 2013

Hollywood heartthrob Jaxon Moncrieff and Liam Lassiter are finally on the same page: committed and in it for the long haul. Now they just have to prepare for the inevitable fallout when they reveal their relationship. Between Jaxon’s career and Liam’s need to prepare for a life in the limelight, they decide to wait until filming of Jaxon’s latest project has wrapped.
Unbeknownst to them, the relentless paparazzi photographer Rafael Cacciatore, aka the Hunter, notices a change in Jaxon and is determined to be the first to break the story of who has captured Jaxon Moncrieff’s heart. In the meantime, Liam and Jaxon have enough on their plate working out the not-so-little issue of how and when Jaxon will come out to his family. The paparazzi aren’t even on their radar. The race to out Jaxon is on, and Liam and Jaxon don’t even know it.

EXCERPT:

Another thing I loved about the Menzies, other than the piano bar, was it didn’t have its own parking garage, per se. There was no need to wait out front for a valet to retrieve your vehicle, leaving you vulnerable to prying eyes or cameras. Guests used Wynyard Parking Station, which ran beneath the hotel and much of the surrounding area and had an entry into the hotel below ground level. It wasn’t even necessary to walk through the foyer to reach it, as there was an elevator with direct access from every floor.
Garrett took care of my bill with Reception, while I waited for him by the elevator in the underground car park, thankful to see not so much as one photographer lurking among the myriad of parked vehicles. Perhaps, had I stayed at the Shangri-La, Sheraton, or Sofitel, I mightn’t have been so fortunate, but as the Menzies wasn’t a five-star establishment popular with visiting celebrities, it seemed the paparazzi weren’t as au fait with its layout or parking arrangements.
I’d only been waiting for about fifteen minutes, my gaze constantly scanning to see if anyone looked suspicious or was wielding a camera, when the elevator pinged, indicating its arrival. The doors slid apart to reveal a relaxed and smiling Garrett.
“There are still a handful of photographers loitering out the front, waiting, I suppose, to see who Jaxon’s friend is,” he supplied before I had a chance to frame the question.
“Well, they’ll be waiting a while,” I returned, and we both smirked, pleased with ourselves for having outwitted them.
We walked together to the payment office, where Garrett quickly settled his parking bill and retrieved his keys. “I’ll transfer some money to your account tonight,” I told him, feeling awkward at having to have him pay for everything as yet another way to keep my name out of things as much as possible. That the reservation was in my name couldn’t be helped, but we’d decided that the less proof of my having stayed there, the better it would be. It wouldn’t be the first time Garrett had paid my bill either, as he’d been my guardian until I turned twenty-one and was still my agent. At least I was a regular visitor to the hotel, and so it could be argued my being there was merely a coincidence.
When we reached Garrett’s sleek black BMW, I sighed as I opened the passenger door, realizing that as Jaxon’s lover, I’d have to think of these things, and more, from this point on.My stomach knotted at the idea that my privacy would all too soon be a thing of the past. Taking a deep fortifying breath, I reminded myself Jaxon was worth it, and as long as I had his love, I could deal with it—deal with the intrusion and inconvenience and so much more.
Watching Garrett navigate the seemingly endless kilometers of gloomy tunnels, lit only by flickering fluorescent lights, in his precise, conservative driving style, I wondered how maniac-driver Alison coped. “Tell me, does Alison fidget a lot in the car?” I couldn’t help asking, trying to hide my smile.
“Why, yes, she does. How did you know?” he replied, glancing at me briefly before returning his gaze to the narrow road.
“Just an educated guess.” Unable to hide my grin, and struggling to stifle my laughter, I turned my face to the passenger-side window.
“God, is she that bad?” he asked, turning to look at me again.

    1. Hi Jbst, thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

When I first wrote "The End" upon completing The Race is On, I thought Liam and Jaxon's story was told - they, however, had a different idea! They've kept chatting to me and so, yes, there will be a third instalment to the series. It picks up the boys story four years down the track.

Once TRIO has been released, I will post an unedited excerpt of the opening scene on my blog.

I hope you enjoy the Treasure Hunt and look forward to seeing you on the next stop!

Best of luck with the voucher up for grabs with the Scarf Princess for having commented!

  7. "Rather than bore you all stupid with more information about me than you ever wanted to know..." Ha! Lily, I find people and the things they say about themselves endlessly fascinating, so you wouldn't have bored me. However, I LOVE games and crosswords, so the treasure hunt idea delights me.

Thanks so much for sharing the excerpt (and the chance to win) with us!

  8. Lily, Loved the interview! Your interviews are always so revealing about you. Love that you share so much with your readers. I really enjoyed the excerpt. Looking forward to its release. I use Same Page as a reward to myself to keep me on track on getting my work done or I'd sit around all day doing nothing but read. To hell with my housework, and screw the job! LOL! (I tried to have the LiveJournal and WordPress recognize me and although logged in, it keeps bringing me up as Anonymous. Just wanted you to know I was here. Not worried about the contest.) - Skylar1776
