All is fair in Love and Football...
Emily Hamilton doesn't trust men. She's much more comfortable playing the romantic lead on stage in front of a packed house than in her own life. So, when NFL star and irresistible ladies' man Brandon McKenna acts as her personal white knight, she has no illusions he'll stick around. However, a misunderstanding with the press throws them together in a fake engagement that yields unexpected (and breathtaking) benefits.
Every time Brandon calls her "Sugar," Emily almost believes Brandon's playing for keeps, not just to score. Can she let down her defenses and get her own Happily Ever After?

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of sports-themed romances I was immediately drawn to this story and its charming hero, entertaining cast of secondary characters and enjoyable storyline that though familiar was still satisfying.  From its slowly building romance to the witty banter between two very opposite characters this was a fun journey to HEA that leaves me looking forward to the next installment.

Brandon's exactly what you picture a star football player to be.....charming, handsome, a bit of an egotist, and definitely popular with the ladies.  He's not attracted to Emily at first but when a misunderstanding leaves them engaged he realizes how good of a boost it is to his career and for one month they spend lots of time together before their "break-up".  During this time we see a sweet Brandon in his interactions with Emily and I found her more likable in his presence.  Ultimately Brandon was an enjoyable, if predictable, hero who won me over as he slowly learned the importance of substance over style.

As an opera singer, Emily is a bit of a diva.  She has a bit of an ego but when it comes to her sister she'll do anything.  Her love for her sister leads to a chance encounter that changes her life forever as she crashes into and becomes "engaged" to the playful Brandon.  Even though I enjoyed her and Brandon together, I never really warmed up to her.  I found her a bit too serious and hard-headed at times.  In his presence though she became more fun and I could see the freeing and naughty nature being with Brandon gave her.

Their relationship evolved from friends to lovers which allowed plenty of time for their bond to grow.  Their sexual encounters were hot but not steamy with not much time spent scorching up the sheets though.  Roadblocks intruded on their burgeoning relationship courtesy of an unhappy ex and family who think they know what's best.  This led to a drawn out conclusion that caused me to lose interest for a bit until Emily's sister made her realize what's really important.  On a whole though this was a fun story.  It was a comfort read that was predictable but guaranteed me a HEA that was immensely satisfying.  The secondary cast of characters was equally strong and have me greatly anticipating the next installment in this series and another fine addition to the sports romance genre.

My rating for this is a B-

AUTHOR INFO:
Julie Brannagh has been writing since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She lives in a small town near Seattle, where she once served as a city council member and owned a yarn shop. She shares her home with a wonderful husband, two uncivilized Maine Coons and a rambunctious chocolate Lab.
Julie hasn't quite achieved the goal of owning a pro football team, so she created a fictional one: The Seattle Sharks. When she's not writing, she's reading, or armchair-quarterbacking her favorite NFL team from the comfort of the family room couch. Julie is a Golden Heart finalist and the author of four contemporary sports romances.
