MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Cassius was once a studious college student who got good grades without much effort.  Since his brother's death though he's fallen apart.  He's been cut off by his father, his grades have plummeted, and he's on the cusp of being kicked out of college as he's unable to pay his tuition.  When a letter from a stranger arrives it seems to be the answer to his prayers, but before long he finds himself caught up in a twisted game of revenge that has him just one piece of a vengeful puzzle.  As his deal with the devil moves forward he soon finds his heart reawakened by a strong-willed young woman, the kind he never saw himself falling for.  With his heart and mind wanting to claim her, will he find a way out of his predicament or will his soul be tainted forever?  Cash is a sexy beast whose life has gone off the rails.  He knows he's out of control with his indiscriminate encounters with older women and illegal fighting but he just doesn't care...until he meets Trudy.  Being with her brings out the best in him as his honor kicks in where their burgeoning relationship is concerned.  He may have been a bit of a jerk at the start but by the end I found him an endearing and sympathetic character.

Trudy's a focused and studious young woman who sees Cash as a player when she first meets him.  An unexpected meeting at an underground fight has each of them soon seeing the other in a different light as his charm draws her ever closer to him and his troubles.  When her friend becomes another pawn in this distasteful plan for revenge, Trudy steps up to the plate to support Cash in doing what he knows is right as the wheels of justice start moving forward. Trudy's not your typical heroine as she likes underground fights and gives as good as she gets in a verbal or physical fight.  She's honorable and makes Cash want to be the kind of man she deserves in a burgeoning romance that's sweet and sexy.

The premise of this story is one that intrigued me for its sexiness and suspense but the execution of it fell a bit flat.  Not enough time was spent getting to know the main couple so I didn't feel as invested in their HEA.  Their romance too was full of sexual tension that didn't culminate until almost the end, and it was done in a rushed manner that made me feel cheated.  Aiding them along the way is Cash's friend, Shaggy, who was bubbly and loyal but who I felt was hiding something.  I'm intrigued by him though and hope to see more of him.  The plot of revenge had its groundwork laid here leaving readers just as in the dark by the end as they were at the start.  It's a plot I look forward to seeing evolve though with the next installment as Trudy's friend tries to salvage her college career too.

My rating for this is a C+
