Book Spotlight on Sin by Emma Hart (REVIEW)

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but with this book all the steaminess of the city can be yours.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Sin by Emma Hart with its sensual romance of enemies to lovers where family issues weigh on HEA.  You'll also get my impressions of this first installment in the Vegas Nights series, then make sure you add it to your bookshelf!

Damien Fox lived up to his name. Cunning, sly, and dangerous, fifty percent of Vegas’ strip clubs were his.
Whatever he wanted, money, attention, women, he got.
And now he wanted to buy my bar, no matter the cost.
I wanted him to go to hell on a first-class ticket.
He played a dirty game, and I followed his rules. I let him think he would win.
Despite our differences, it was clear to see that we were no more than two broken hearts colliding in the darkness.
Closed off, sexy, and holding a pain that would crush a lesser man, he was the ultimate sin. One I couldn’t deny myself, even though I knew better than to trust a fox...

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

The pain of loss and guilt is one of the driving forces in this story as a man with a past full of familial conflict finds himself in an emotional tug of war with a woman dealing with her own grief.  Add in a combustible and erotically-charged connection between these two strong-willed people and readers will find themselves quickly consumed with their slightly bumpy and sexy journey to HEA.

Damien Fox once had a happy family until his mother's depression and frustration led to his family falling apart.  His father's anger, judgments, and expectations resulted in hurt feelings, death, and years of guilt that had Damien closing his heart off from the world.  The moment he meets Dahlia Lloyd though his life will never be the same as she works her way into his heart and soul one witty challenging word after another.  Damien's childhood was one of being made to feel like a disappointment, being pushed by a domineering and toxic father into doing things that he knows aren't right.  It's made him a bit cold and calculating when readers first meet him.  Below that unappealing facade though is a man of great passions, a man who wants to unburden himself and take control of his life without his father's heartlessness hanging over him.  Damien's hard to like at the start but, like the layers of an onion, readers get to see a completely different man unfold as the story progresses.  Being with Dahlia softens the rough edges his father honed and I found myself falling for him.  His heart reawakens and each word and deed becomes more romantic and charming.  He's a mercenary at the start but definitely more of a lover than a fighter by the end.  Damien's a man who oozes sensuality and it made his connection to Dahlia crackle with encounters and banter teeming with unrelenting sexual tension.  Theirs was an erotic battle for supremacy from the very start and it made for entertaining exchanges in and out of the bedroom.

Dahlia Lloyd's childhood was full of love until the death of both of her parents had her running from her obligations.  Returning home and still healing from her loss she's thrust into a battle against an arrogant businessman bent on buying her family's bar.  From the moment they meet it's clear that both are more than a match for the other as both give as good as they get.  Dahlia's a strong-willed woman not easily swayed by Damien's sexiness, but she's definitely tempted. The more time he spends on trying to get her to sell the more they get to know each other.  The closer her body gets to him the more she sees of his heart and soul that's been starved for far too long.  Through her kind heart and support he becomes the man he's always wanted to be, the hero she's always found in the romance books she reads.  Dahlia's a delightful heroine who doesn't back down from a fight.  She's confident and willing to fight for what's right while putting her heart on the line for a man who everyone had once written off as cold and calculating.  She's supportive of her friends, no matter how annoying they sometimes are, and is a fixer and eternal optimist you can't help but like.  She's the kind of heroine you can see yourself hanging around with in real life as her snark put a smile on my face and it's just one more reason to root for her to get her HEA.

Theirs is a relationship teeming with sexual tension from the very start with banter that feels like a tennis match as one sexually-charged comment leads to another.  Their banter is full of challenge early on, but as their hearts become entwined their banter feels more like foreplay.  Their intimacies become more erotic as the story progresses but they're nicely balanced with sweet and tender moments as well.  Damien may have started out a bit villainous but he soon showed his heroic and immensely appealing damaged hero side that had me drooling over him by the end.  Dahlia was an entertaining foe in their battle and from the start you can't help but cheer for her.  Surrounding this engaging couple was a cast of colorful and larger than life secondary characters.  Each left their indelible mark, making me laugh a time or two, and affecting the future of Dahlia and Damien in subtle and overt ways.  I'm especially intrigued by Damien's sister Perrie whose life has been tough and full of choices that will leave readers conflicted but greatly anticipating her story being told next. Though this story went on a bit too long I liked that there were no big misunderstandings, no roadblocks of stupidity keeping readers from a richly rewarding HEA.  Ms. Hart shows herself here to be a master at witty and erotically-charged banter.  She's crafted two likable protagonists who don't need over the top melodrama or silly machinations to keep readers invested in their HEA and I look forward to the next emotionally engaging installment in this sexy series.

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
