Book Tour for Brass Tabby by Rowan Helaine (Review & GIVEAWAY)…..

Readers drawn to the theme of Beauty and the Beast will be intrigued by this contemporary dark romance of two differently scarred people brought together by fate.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Brass Tabby by Rowan Helaine, along with getting my impressions of it.  You'll also get further insight into this book through the author discussing classic romances effects on today's romances as well as by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this modern-day retelling of a classic make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $15 bookstore GC too!

Long before the original version of Beauty and the Beast was published in 1740, there was the story of Cupid and Psyche. A young princess who is so beautiful that she catches the eye of the handsome god of erotic love. Whisked away by the West Wind to an opulent palace where she is showered with finery, Psyche is visited nightly by a creature who remains shrouded in darkness but, we can only assume, throws some seriously good dick. She is happy, but homesick, so her invisible husband consents to let her visit her family. Seeing her happy and richly attired, her avaricious sisters plant the seeds of doubt in her mind, telling her that her nightly visitor must be a monster of incalculable hideousness. They hatch a plan which ultimately results in Psyche getting a fleeting glimpse of her divine husband before pouring boiling oil over his shoulder and sending him running home to his wrathful mother Venus, who never thought the little mortal hussy was good enough for her perfect boy anyway.
The gods do love to make a girl work, so as you can imagine, the subsequent story unfolds in a series of trials that Psyche must pass through in order to regain the favor of her lover. Eventually, having withstood torture and hardship and proven her contrition to her wounded husband, they are united in divine marriage and live happily ever after for all eternity. Because nothing is sexier or more romantic than bride kidnapping...said no one ever.
Having read countless iterations of the Beauty and the Beast trope in various degrees of filthiness, I have never failed to have the same reaction: She’s gonna miss the Beast when he’s gone. Sure, he may be transformed into a golden specimen of masculinity bearing a striking resemblance to Michelangelo’s David (looking at you, Disney) but he’ll never have those muscles, or those claws, or that deep, panty- melting voice ever again.
The old fairy tales got it wrong. What girl wants to go to bed with a beast and wake up to a fop in an ascot? It should also be pointed out that in each story, Beauty has the wherewithal and strength of character to go through her personal trials, realize she loves the Beast exactly as he is, and come back to save him from a terrible death by broken heart. I don’t think it’s fair that she should be rewarded with a bait and switch, and if I’m honest, I’ll bet when pickle jars need opening or there’s a pack of angry wolves to ward off, the Beast misses the extra firepower.
Modern romance has turned the old stories on their heads. Beasts of all varieties are having a moment. Vampires. Werewolves. Aliens. Orcs. They’re all getting played, and women are realizing that maybe there’s something more important than having a man that looks good on top of a wedding cake. Cupid may have laid down with her in the dark of night and remained invisible in the day, but he treated her with kindness and respect. He prioritized her pleasure and even sent her home to her family because he knew it would make her happy, knowing it would hurt him to be separated from her. The message back then was somewhat different: Don’t take the kindness of your husband for granted or the gods will rain misfortune over your head. Now that we’ve learned to love beastly men, though, I think the moral of the story has changed. Maybe we should all be looking for someone who makes us feel safe and loved exactly as we are, rather than demanding that our partners fit our romantic expectations.

It’s loathe at first felony for the man with no future and the girl with no past.
Left blind and gruesomely scarred following a horrific accident, former golden boy Grant Harcourt isn’t looking for new friends when a snarky ball of hellfire dives into the back of his chartered car. Scrappy street artist Enola Fothergill is just trying to survive, and she definitely doesn’t need the attention that association with the Harcourt clan could bring. A bungled carjacking sparks a slow-burning passion, but when Nola’s murky former life catches up with her, they’ll both have to decide how far they’re willing to go for love.

EXCERPT:

Howling At The Moon:
Grant craned his neck to inhale the dry tang of an approaching electrical storm, feeling an unexpected thrill go through him. She didn’t seem like the type to check the weather before doing anything, so there was a strong possibility that if she didn’t head home, the rain would keep her in one place. As embarrassing as it was to admit, she never really left him anyway. If she hadn’t shown up when she did, he would have spent the last four hours before sunrise staring up at the ceiling and thinking about her before he finally fell asleep. “So. How was work?”
“Long,” she said. An instant later, she tipped back her head and let loose with a sonorous howl. The sound carried for a while, across the broad expanse of the lawn before it echoed off the tightly packed cedar hedge at the edge of the property. He could hear the way the sound struck the trunks of the trees and bounced back, barely a whisper on the return.
Grant laughed, genuinely laughed, for the first time he could remember. “What the hell was that?”
She responded with another howl, louder this time, projecting her voice into the sky. Leaning against him, she nudged him with her shoulder. “Go ahead. Try it.”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From first time author Rowan Helaine comes this sensual, slow-burn romance that brings together two very flawed people who find themselves growing closer despite outside forces leaving their future hanging in the balance a time or two.  In a romance that's a bit rough around the edges, I applaud the author for her realistic portrayal of blindness in a man used to having everything he wants because of his wealth.  The anger, fear, and ultimately the acceptance of his disability, showed Grant to be a flawed hero at times but a hero I was drawn to nonetheless.  He could be arrogant one moment while showing kindness the next, having relations with another woman one moment while showing interest in the vivacious woman he's brought into his home the next.  It all makes for an unforgettable, multi-faceted hero...an imperfectly perfect hero who's just who the heroine needed.  Nola's a larger than life heroine, one who's lived an eclectic and unapologetic life.  There's an air of mystery surrounding her, a sense of foreboding, that hangs over the story and weighs on her as she and Grant grow closer.  I was on edge waiting for her past to be revealed and in the end was left a bit unsatisfied by it, but appreciative for it bringing these two very different people together.

While this book is described as a rom-com I didn't quite see it as such.  There was definitely some delightful banter between the main characters, banter that was both fun and flirty, but the overall tone of the story was darker and grittier.  The interactions between Grant and Nola started out carefree and fun, but the more time they spent together the more layers were revealed about themselves.  Slowly but surely I became more and more invested in these two and had wished for a more conclusive conclusion to their burgeoning romance.  Despite a few small quibbles though, I still found this an engaging read from a bright new author who I look forward to seeing more from.

My rating for this is a B.

Haven:
A diligent hand carved this hole in my face.
It stole my confidence, my identity, and ended my short-lived career as a broadcast journalist.
I am now unemployed. Alone. Ugly.
And expected to get over it and move on.
Go on living life as usual—as if the world doesn’t judge the grotesquely unattractive.
Quest:
It’s been three years since I was kicked out of the Army for nearly killing the opposition’s militia commander with my bare hands.
I am now unemployed. Alone. Angry.
And expected to forget the nightmares that hold me hostage and move on.
Go on living life as usual—as if the world doesn’t judge a dishonorably discharged ex-soldier.
Don’t Look at Me is a modern-day Beauty and the Beast tale—reversed and twisted. Because even the ugly need a good story, and even the beautiful are ugly deep down.

EXCERPT:

When I moved to Jersey from California, I had no idea that days would go by where I wouldn’t think of the incident that led to my being other-than-honorably discharged. For me, the events of that night have been branded into my brain—the consistent nightmares the hot iron that won’t let the scars heal. But since finding out about Haven’s attack, I find myself thinking about her more and more—why was she walking alone in the middle of the night? What was going through her mind when she was so viciously attacked? What is going through her mind now? Was she raped? It isn’t part of the slasher’s modus operandi to sexually assault his attackers, but he also doesn’t carve out whole sections of skin in the faces of his victims. According to reports I’ve read over and over online since learning of Haven’s attack, his approach is to leave two parallel slash marks down the right side of his victims’ cheek. From what I could see in the dark, the heft of Haven’s lacerations are on the left side of her face. It doesn’t make sense. The Stratford Slasher has only attacked each of his victims once, but if Haven’s wounds weren’t inflicted by this same man, could the one that did hurt her return to finish the job? I wish she’d take me up on my offer to help me in the store. Then I could keep an eye on her and make sure that doesn’t happen. But she barely stays on the phone with me for two minutes when I call her to ask. And the only time she’s ever called me was to thank me for the supplies she very much needed during the storm two weeks ago. I know she has a lot to work through since her attack, but I wish she’d let me help her to get through this transition from on-air personality to whatever she needs to do next. Because I know all too well that transitions are difficult. Especially when that transition requires living an entirely different life than before.
With Haven at the forefront of my mind, I can’t help but blurt out a question during one of our group sessions. “How can I help a friend who doesn’t seem to want my help?”
“You don’t,” Warren says at the same time Mary asks, “What kind of help does your friend need?”
“She needs help getting her life back. It was pretty much taken from her when some loser used her face as a canvas to do with as he pleased.”
“Poor girl,” Mary says while the others mumble something similar.
“And now she won’t go out in public. She has her food delivered to her. She only goes out in the middle of the night, wearing a getup she thinks hides her face.”
“Does she trust you to help her, Quest?” Mary leans forward, crossing her hands over her lap. Mary’s name suits her. She’s kind, soft-spoken, and nurturing. The Virgin Mary, my mother would say. The Mother of all mothers.
I answer honestly. “She hasn’t known me long enough.”
“Until she can trust you, I don’t think she’s going to accept your help. Is she getting counseling?”
“I don’t think so.”
“It sounds like she could use some professional counseling, but would she be open-minded about giving this group a chance? To get her headed in the right direction?”
My eyes go to the fluorescent lights on the ceiling. “I doubt it.”
“Then, just be her friend. Don’t try to help her overcome this, just be there for her until she finds her way.”
So, that’s what I resolve to do. Be her friend.

Battered by a life determined to tear him down
This quiet ex-con’s scarred hands may be the gentlest touch she’ll ever know.
…if only life were a fairy tale where Beauty was allowed to keep her Beast
Ivan thought the world was through giving him second chances. Who’d want a rough ex-con with a savior complex and a bad habit of bringing home helpless strays? Everyone in Blackwood, Virginia knew he wasn’t good enough for the fine things in life; they knew he was too damaged to save. He just needed to keep his head down, work himself to the bone, and pretend he was content with the lot he was given.
Until she came into his life. Until she changed everything.
Until he realized he would do anything, fight anyone, tear the world apart if it meant saving her.

EXCERPT:

“No. You’re not beating anyone up for me.” She softened the words with a smile and met his eyes, where bloodlust still shone, perhaps even reflected in hers. “But thank you."
It took all the courage Uma had to reach out then and place her clammy hand over his warm one.
It was her undoing, that contact. Or maybe it had been his tirade—the idea that this man who hardly knew her, this stranger, was willing to defend her. Or perhaps the sight of his heartbreakingly beautiful face, lovely and bare. Either way, Uma crossed a line with that touch. Like in a movie, when the shot pans around the room, flip-flopping the perspective, she’d changed the rules, broken the barrier, dragging them into unknown territory.
They both stared at her hand for a beat or two before their heads lifted and their eyes met.
He moved first, flipping his hand so their palms came together. That touch was so much more intimate than it should have been, like lying belly to belly, naked. Their skin rasped gently as his thumb rode the bumps of Uma’s knuckles.
Ivan’s lids looked heavy, and when she glanced at his mouth, it was no longer stern but lush and ripe and hungry. Her eyes fled the invitation there and skittered back to the safety of their hands, but that was ten times worse. Because watching that rough, callused thumb—capable of so much violence—barely skate across the surface of her hand, more gently than she’d ever been touched in her life… That was too much. Like hand porn.
Which obviously wasn’t a thing.
Although, maybe it was a thing, and if it wasn’t, damn it, it should have been. She could imagine the Tumblr feeds, ogled by closeted pervs like herself. She pictured herself hunting down shots of scarred, manly, thick-knuckled hands toying with pathetic, unsuspecting, small ones.
But then, in a moment of clarity, she knew, without fully understanding it, that what really turned her crank here wasn’t him dominating her. Oh no. It was the other way around. Her own tiny hand lording it over his big one. She had the power here—or at least the illusion of it. And it was heady.
C’m’ere.” He sounded gruff when he tugged Uma toward him. She resisted briefly, but not out of worry or fear. No, she resisted for the stupid regular reasons: Would she make a fool out of herself? Did her breath stink?
She gave in and allowed him to pull her closer, to the edge of the armchair, and met him halfway.
Their noses were first to meet, hesitant and intimate. Brushing lightly.
“Can I get a kiss?” His hot breath shuddered the question against her, and she could feel his anticipation, nearly as strong as her own.
Without letting herself think too much about it, she did as he asked. It was so easy to brush her mouth to his. A dry touch, with none of the messiness his lush lower lip promised, but enough spark to make her want more.
The second was a real kiss, the kind that makes a noise, lips pursed. Another like that, chaste and neat, but ridiculously exciting in its simplicity. They tilted their heads in easy, mirrored unison, lined up for a deeper one.
And then his tongue, the tip against her lip, sweet and soft, requesting permission. Permission was granted, and he slipped in, sipped at her. Not a perfect kiss, because there were still teeth in the way and noses and such, but with such synchronicity and heat that it was by far the best she’d ever had. Massive hands stroked her cheeks, her ears, her shoulders, making her feel tiny and cherished. Fragile, in a good way, but still whole.
It was so right, and he was so patient, that something pushed her to ramp it up a notch, bite his bottom lip—probably a little harder than she should have—pull it taut, then dive back in. He made a little noise when she did that, a sort of surprised grunt, which made the whole thing even hotter. Uma grabbed hold of his hair and positioned his head right where she wanted it, then wiggled against her seat.
That’s when he started to lose it.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

When it comes to romantic tales I find the most satisfying ones put readers through the emotional wringer.  It's not a truly Happily Ever After unless the journey to get there was a hard-fought one.  From start to finish this book held my emotions captive as two bruised souls fought to rise above their pasts in a tale that beautifully blended a charming and heartwarming romance with steamy interludes that ultimately empowered and healed the heroine's battered body and soul.  This romance hurt my heart at times but ultimately had me cheering as an eclectic group of people bonded together to form an unlikely family.

Uma's life was once all about color and light as a photographer, but the moment she met Joey her life suddenly took a dark and sinister turn.  He took over her life, trapping her in a nightmare of doubts and eroding her self-confidence, until one night when the nightmare turned to hell.  With her body permanently marked and her soul bruised she ran until she found an unlikely haven with a bitter old woman and a gentle, yet gruff, giant.  These two individuals become her saviors, giving her the strength to find herself once again.  Being with Ms. Lloyd gives her her first taste of standing up for herself as well as a confidant who understands her fears.  Being with Ivan shows her that strong men don't need to be cruel.  He makes her feel desirable despite the marks on her body though it was a slow journey towards acceptance for her.  When Uma first came to town she was scared of her own shadow.  Her transformation out of her shell was full of baby steps that had me cheering her on as each step saw a palpable weight lifting off her.  Everything Uma went through was vividly depicted which drew me to her as each of her aches became mine.  By the end of the story I felt a bond with her and was happy for the new life she made for herself.

Ivan's lived in Blackwood all his life.  His childhood was tough as his family was poor and his mother walked out after the birth of his sister.  This and an undiagnosed learning disability led to lots of anger issues that ultimately landed him in prison for almost killing the man who abused his sister.  Since getting out he's worked on his rage issues, become caretaker to every stray in town, and tries to keep to himself.  The town sees him as a mystery, a man you don't want to cross but who's loyal to those he calls friend and family.  To the women in town they see him as a sexy beast, which I wholeheartedly agree with!  The moment he and Uma meet is a life-altering experience for them both and takes them on a journey that empowers her and teaches him the power in letting go to another.  In subtle ways Ivan shows he cares for Uma, from shedding his caveman looks to helping her find her self-worth through his longing glances. He proves time and again that he'd do anything to make her happy and keep her safe, but a chance to avenge Uma may put their HEA in doubt in a pulse-pounding conclusion that wrapped up a bit to easily.  Ivan may look like a beast but he has a heart of gold.  He let Uma take charge in moments where she felt weakest and I adored him for it.  His care of Ms. Lloyd also endeared him to me as he could easily charm her bitter heart.  His care of the unwanted town strays made my heart ache even more and sealed his nomination to my list of book boyfriends.

From start to finish I found myself fully immersed in this powerful romance. The main characters were larger-than-life with pasts that left an indelible mark on them both and bound them together in an ultimately uplifting connection.  Their romance was sweet yet scorching at times, empowering as Uma was given control during their erotically-charged encounters.  Throughout the story Ms. Anders vividly depicted the past of both of the main characters which helped me understand the feelings they were going through in the healing process.  The town of Blackwood was also brought alive as a haven for Uma with its majestic mountains and warm countryside courtesy of Ms. Anders talents.  The colorful denizens of this small town further enhanced the narrative, relating past secrets that changed my views on characters as well as introducing me to complex and intriguing secondary characters.  British bartender Rory's antagonistic banter with Ivan's sister, Jessie, especially has me intrigued as it's full of sexual tension that I hope to see play out in the next installment in this series.  On a whole this was an unforgettable story, with characters I quickly came to care for, and I highly recommend it to readers looking for a powerful romance of survival and acceptance.

My rating for this is an A.

Book Tour for Beast by Alana Albertson (Review & GIVEAWAY)

As a disabled reader drawn to scarred characters, this book with its modern day theme of Beauty and the Beast captured my attention from the first page to the last.  Keep reading to get a tantalizing taste of the erotically-charged and intensely emotional Beast by Alana Albertson, along with my impressions of it, then learn even more about this book by visiting the other sites hosting this tour.  In honor of this book make sure to fill out the form below for the chance to win a $15 Amazon GC too!

Love doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be true.
Isabella—Grady Williams is a national treasure, the youngest living Medal of Honor recipient, America’s scarred superhero. With tattooed arms sculpted from carrying M-16s, this bad boy has girls begging from sea to shining sea to get a piece of his action.
When my father squanders away my college fund, I make a deal with this dirty-talking Devil Dog—I will pretend to be Grady’s girlfriend for the Marine Corps Ball, and my dad will write Grady’s war memoir.
Grady is fearless. Hell, this badass jumped on a grenade to save his fellow Marines! As much as I crave him, I refuse to allow myself to become addicted to a dangerous man who will detonate my heart.
Grady—Isabella Cuesta is an angel who can see beyond my mangled skin, a pawn used to repay her father’s debt, a woman who makes me feel like a man instead of a monster.
But I no longer believe in fairy tales.
She’s mine until our contract ends. I’ll take her hard and rough, listen to all her hopes and fears, lay down my life to protect her.
This beauty will never let herself love a dangerous man like me—a man who has killed, a man who runs towards gunfire, a man who never backs down from a fight.
But without her love, I’m not a man—I’ll remain forever a beast.

EXCERPT:

Guilt from my initial reaction to his injuries tormented me.
At first I was determined not to stare at his face, horrified that he’d be insulted by my reaction. But the second his face came into focus, I held back a sob, and a lump grew in my throat.
The right side of his face was mangled, taut raw flesh accented with blue and red scars. His jaw was uneven, and his right eyelid slumped, filled with what must’ve been a glass eye. The remnant of his ear was dappled and twisted. But the other half of his face was clean-shaven, handsome and rugged—a bright turquoise eye, strong chin, black hair shorn in a Marine Corps high and tight haircut.
Flashes filled my brain, stored images I must’ve retained from newsreels and graphic war movies. Had it been a roadside bomb? An outmanned firefight? Some type of chemical attack? I wouldn’t ask him. For now, I was content with the trust he had shown me by unveiling his scars.
“I guess I should’ve gone to the party as Two-Face,” he said, his voice somber.
“No, you’re beautiful. You make a sexy Hulk.” I caressed his face, my fingers tracing its divots. “Plus, then you’d be DC, and I’d be Marvel. We would’ve never had a chance."
He let out a small laugh, but flinched at my touch. “You’ve seen me now. You’re free to go."
This was my chance to end this night safely and in control."
Or I could get wild—do what I’d only ever read about in my books.
Cut loose.
I’d always admired those women who owned their sexuality, like Marisol. Indulged in pleasure without any guilt or shame. I wondered what it would be like to live in the moment.
I was picky, but I still had needs, and right now I needed some action—and sadly these days the warm glow from my eReader was about the closest that I felt to having any heat radiating on my body. But even the artificial afterglow of one hot night with my latest romance hero did little to warm my heart. After all, I hadn’t hooked up with a guy since winter break. I missed everything about being around men—their masculine scents, their non-subtle eye fucks, their rough hands. At least my book boyfriends were gorgeous, witty, and incredible lovers—but most importantly, they wanted more from their heroines than just a one-night stand.
And I was sure this man wasn’t looking for anything more than a hookup.
Isa, put on your clothes and get the hell out of here. This is not you. You are responsible, conservative, and goal-oriented.
Faced with the opportunity to indulge in my fantasy of hot, wild sex with a hunky alpha male, I had to admit that the reality of the situation made me realize how rigid I’d always been.
But somewhere deep in my soul I wanted to lose myself in this damaged man, give him pleasure to alleviate his pain, experience ecstasy and release.
And maybe he could heal me too.
The heat between us rose, and I erased the distance between us, like two magnets being drawn together.
I traced his face with my fingers, running the tips over his lips. Rough, wild, and dangerous. As he remained still, my hands explored his incredible body—rock-hard muscles, deeply embedded scars, and intricate ink. All making him look like the sexiest badass alive.
He bit his bottom lip, his pupil dilated.
Hungry.
Ravenous.
Intense.
His chest heaved, and the sight of this raw, ferocious man before me sent a shock between my legs. I ached for him to relieve the tension that consumed my body.
I pressed my palm onto his chest, the green body paint staining my hand. “I want to stay. I want you."
Damn, did I just say that? My words betrayed my will.
The left side of his mouth widened into a grin, although his right side remained frozen in time. With one arm, he clutched my ass and wrapped my legs around his waist. I gasped as his mouth covered mine. His lips were neither soft nor sweet—they were hard and hungry. The length of his cock and the hair on his chest let me know that, unlike my previous boyish lovers, I was about to be fucked by a real man.
There was no turning back. I needed this Marine inside me in the worst way.
His kisses were out of control. I’d never been kissed like this before, like I was an oasis in the middle of the desert. His mouth tasted minty and hot, and his manliness intoxicated me. He awoke a latent desire in me, summoning my inner wildcat. I kissed him back, kissed him everywhere. His mouth, his lips, his neck, his scars. My hands explored his insanely ripped body, stroking him like he was my personal sex toy. I gripped his hair and dug my nails into his back, kneading him closer to me, never wanting to let him go.
I’d always been the good girl, living vicariously through my friends’ hookups, only indulging in my fantasies in the safety of my mind. Whether it was from a place of fear or control, I had never allowed myself to fulfill my desires. But tonight, with this nameless sex god in my grasp, I made a silent vow to not hold anything back. I was going to let him fuck me like it was the last night of the world.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a quadriplegic I'm drawn to less than perfect characters as well as the Beauty and the Beast theme which Ms. Albertson has put a modern spin on in this steamy erotic work. From the first page to the last readers are pulled into the intensely emotional journey of a soldier whose life has been ripped apart by an act of heroism who sees a chance at HEA with the equally bruised young woman still dealing with the fallout from her mother's suicide. Both of them are hurting, holding back from embracing the future, out of fear and doubt and it's a rocky road full of anger that sometimes brings out the worst in Grady. It's ultimately a story about healing and empowerment and with a turn of the final page you'll find yourself cheering.

Grady loved being a Marine and was focused on becoming a sniper when an act of heroism changed his life irrevocably. Losing his best friend and dealing with the loss of sight in one eye as well as horrific and painful scars has left him a shadow of his former self. He's now mired in self-pity and doubts regarding his manhood which has left him angry and belligerent. All he wants is a woman to see the man behind the scars, a man capable of keeping her safe and happy. A neighborhood costume party gives him the chance to do just that and from the moment he meets Isa he knows he's found a woman worth lowering his defenses for if he can put aside his own fears and self-doubts. Grady is super sexy despite his scars and has a commanding presence that leaves you drooling. His self-loathing leads to feelings of depression that are palpable and have you fearing the possibilities as issues regarding suicide are addressed in the story. Grady can be sweet and charming one moment and become angry and bitter the next as seen in moments of hurtful comments he directs at Isa. Though his anger over his situation is understandable his treatment of Isa still frustrated me at times. Despite everything Grady's still a compelling hero whose triumph is uplifting.

Isa was once Queen of the dance floor, starring on a tv show, until her mother's death took away her joy of dancing. She's now a bit adrift with only one friend and a father who's willing to steal money from her. His act leads her to making a deal with the scarred war hero who she's becoming increasingly attracted to which creates conflict in a burgeoning relationship that began as a one-night stand. Isa's been hiding from the nasty aspects of fame but fate pulls her back into that world in an attempt to prove herself to Grady when his self-image has him pushing her away. Isa's a kind hearted woman, almost too forgiving when it comes to her father, and is just what Grady needs to start putting his past behind him. She's got issues of her own though in denying her desire to dance again and needs to start living in the light instead of hiding in her own grief.

The relationship between Isa and Grady is combustible. He's clearly the more dominant and it makes their sexual interludes even more scorching. A lot of time is devoted to their erotic encounters but they were nicely balanced with quiet and introspective moments too. Grady's feelings regarding his scars and fears for his future with his disability are realistically and heartbreakingly depicted and had me feeling sympathetic towards him even in his most exasperating moments. Overall this was a quick read with good flow that had only one glaring event that marred my happiness. Towards the end of the story Isa's reunion with her former dance partner takes a bizarre and melodramatic turn that came out of left field and felt over the top and unnecessary. Despite that this was an erotically-charged read that brought two bruised souls together in a rocky journey to HEA that had me blushing as well as cheering and I recommend it to those looking for a modern twist on the Beauty and the Beast theme!

My rating for this is a B-
