As a big fan of sci-fi stories I was immediately drawn to this f/f-themed story by Jessica E. Subject, Never Gonna Desert You.  It's a fast-paced read with some earth shattering revelations and you can learn more about it by reading my impressions of it along with visiting the other blogs hosting this tour.  Make sure to fill out the form below for your chance to win some great prizes.....

Determined to find and bring back her girlfriend, Brook enlists in the next mission to the foreign planet, Airondelle. But the deception at Planet Core continues, and Brook doesn't realize the depth of her father's involvement until he orders her terminated. Struggling to stay alive, she quickly learns nothing is as she believed.
Will she ever find Melina? Or will Brook be stuck light years from home, alone, and with a fierce predator hunting her down?

EXCERPT:

The door disappeared into the wall, exposing a silver-haired man sitting behind a desk large enough to conceal bodies. She gulped, too afraid to move.
One of the guards shoved her inside. The door slammed shut. Malock glanced up. “Miss Holloway, it’s good to see you.” He motioned to the hover-chair in front of his desk. “Please, sit down.”
Her heart thumped. She never expected to be welcomed into the office, just doled punishment and forced to pay the consequences.
She perched onto the chair, and picked at a loose thread on her uniform.
“Holloway, I have an important job for you.”
She focused on the man and nodded. Not at all what she expected to hear.
When he clicked a button, a picture of a young man, around her age, appeared on a screen to the left. “This is Thomas Allden.”
Not recognizing the guy, she held her breath, waiting for Malock to continue.
“He’s from Lexford, brought in to train for the missions to Airondelle, same as you.”
Yeah, so?
“I want him off the mission.”
She scoffed. “With all of your authority, you can’t just kick him off yourself?”
“It’s not that easy. His father is part of the PC management team. Please, I need your help.”
She gasped. How am I supposed to get someone off the mission? Why me?
“I want you to seduce him, fuck him, get him to go against Planet Core policy regarding relationships.”
Her bottom lip trembled. “I…I can’t.”
“If you want to remain in training for the mission, you will.”
He might as well have reached into her chest and squeezed her heart.
“But….”
Malock folded his hands together. “Listen, I know about you and my daughter. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll help me out. Otherwise, you’re going to end up like your parents.”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Into this futuristic world comes numerous secrets that an important man is willing to have others killed to keep hidden.  His vileness further knows no bounds as he's set his daughter Brook aside since the day her mother was killed.  His time is mostly spent trying to get rid of those in the Underground who favor rebellion and who he says did the killing.  He has an agenda to get rich through deception and won't let sentimentality get in his way.

Brook's burgeoning relationship with Melina could get both of them killed as the laws of Planet Core frown upon same-sex relationships.  Their mutual happiness has them ignoring the law but again lets Brook's father use their secret, and the threat of their separation, to get them to do his bidding.  It soon becomes apparent that the lies are bigger than once thought and the secrets more far sweeping than we're led to believe as whole planets and races are in jeopardy.

Brook and Melina both had hardships growing up and are familiar with loneliness.  Brook tried to find affection elsewhere but was betrayed when a chance encounter introduces her to Melina.  From there their relationship turns hot and heavy with each of them willing to cheat and die to keep the other safe.  Their sensual interludes are HOT and nicely paced alongside intriguing sci-fi elements.

Much in this story relies on what has happened before and this story is just one segment in a much bigger picture.  This book sets up far reaching events that will greatly affect the next installment in this series and brought to light many secrets that brought an intriguing twist to the overall storyline.  The females in this story are strong-willed and willing to put themselves on the line in the name of love and shows why there needs to be more f/f-centric stories.

My rating for this is a B-/C+
