There are two reasons why readers enjoy erotica. Because it’s steeped in fantasy and believable all at the same time.
So many people read because they need an escape into a fantasy world so over the top everything always works out all right and they are guaranteed that, sometimes IRL, elusive happily ever after. I know this is one of the main reasons, I myself read. I love knowing in romance it’s a literal guaranteed happy ending for the main characters. That delights me and allows me to enjoy every second of the angst and build up and black moment when everything seems lost and then somehow the author figures out a believable way to bring them back together. Love that. And with erotic romance it’s the same concept but normally the emotions burn brighter, hotter. More sex sure as hell doesn’t hurt anything either.
Second is the believability. Not including paranormal worlds into the mix, more erotic works, especially the kinky ones are absolutely believable and I think a lot of readers identify with that. Getting flogged on stage with a ball gag in your mouth, wearing nothing more than a smile is completely plausible. Kink is everywhere and more main stream after FSOG released. Yes that series may have been slightly sensationalized and there aren’t a lot of young billionaire’s with red rooms running around, but the concept of more than just vanilla is absolutely believable now.
Sex is good. Awesome even. And you know what? It’s healthy. And when a lot of women read erotic romance they want to have more sex with their partners. That just seems like the best winwin situation I’ve heard in a very long time.

Every night Jenna spends hours preparing submissives for their Doms at The Library. She encourages them, reassures them as they take a step into the forbidden and urges them never to settle. But when it comes to her own journey, she’s spent years hiding, trapped within the steel cage of her corsets. She can’t hide any longer.
Nick has wanted her since the moment he laid eyes on her but she’s always told him no. Until now. She agrees to be his submissive for a night but he wants more…much more. He unwittingly brings in the one man Jenna never stopped loving and, on the cusp of everything’s he’s ever wanted, he’s not the only one fighting for her heart.
Ian can’t forget her…his Jenna. He walked away years ago, but not this time. This time he’ll settle for nothing but her complete submission.
Three people unable to let go of the past must learn that love—above all else—is worth fighting for.

EXCERPT:

“You kept your hair short. For me. Good girl.”
She didn’t answer. She couldn’t.
Four years she’d waited to hear him call her that again.
He’d given the words to her when they were together. She’d become addicted to hearing them, knowing he thought she was good enough. His girl.
And then when he left—nothing.
Emotions swamped her.
Words were too complicated for her—and not complicated enough. And she knew he didn’t need an answer.
He had loved her hair when it was long but when she’d cut it, he’d used her so hard, suspended in rope, that she’d worn his marks for weeks.
“You don’t have to braid it or wrap it up like you’re hiding one of my favorite toys. I can still grab it.”
He fisted it harder and she curled her fingers and toes, trying desperately to keep some part of herself aloof from him.
“So damn sexy.”
Ian was a sadistic bastard. He liked to bring pain. He wanted to see his girl suffer for him. Not because she liked it but because she didn’t and she still did it—for him.
Knowing that made his charming side so much harder to take.
Compliments and sweet gestures offered in his same no-nonsense style, but were that much more affective in their sincere simplicity.
“Keep still.”
Her mental discipline for following his commands was sluggish but the rest of her sure as hell remembered what to do. Jenna crossed her ankles and clasped her hands together, tightening her body as best she could.
He whipped the knife blade back and forth across her skin. Slow—quick, quick, slow—quick, quick, as if it were a waltz.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Fans of erotica will find this a steamy and intense read written by someone clearly familiar with this highly sexualized and commanding world.  This story keeps readers on edge watching two men battle for the devotion of one woman who's still obsessed with a man from her past but drawn to a man offering her a future of happiness with all of her erotic dreams fulfilled.  At times the intensity gets to be too much and for those with tender boundaries regarding BDSM this isn't their kind of read.  But for those who stick with it you're given a vividly detailed tour through the world of kink and BDSM courtesy of a cast of likable characters with familiar personal issues.

Jenna's still missing Ian, the man she thought she'd be with forever and who she opened up to like no other.  When he left without a word it crushed her and has left her lonely, depressed, and hiding from her needs.  She's drawn to the powerful Dom, Nick, but scared of ending up alone again.  Once she gives in to him though theirs is a rocky road to permanent claiming as her past comes back to haunt her and leaves her conflicted by what each man offers her.  Jenna's a strong-willed woman but when it comes to her men her emotions are in chaos.  While I felt sympathetic to their treating her like a bone in their tug of war I wish she'd been more truthful in her dealings with Nick once Ian came back and unleashed his sexual reclaiming of her.  It felt wrong juggling two men without them completely knowing what she was doing.

Nick is a sexy, honorable, suit-wearing man who's been drawn to Jenna since he first saw her but has been denied by her at every turn.  He's shocked when she finally accepts him and jumps wholeheartedly into claiming her for thirty days.  He's clearly dominant but caring too and I liked him a lot.  He unknowingly opened a can of worms when he set up a ménage for Jenna as it's always been her fantasy and he longs to make her happy and satisfied.  I enjoyed their couplings as there was still caring along with his dominance.  Ian has always felt a bit rough around the edges with a bit of cruelty to his dominance.  He too is sexy but in a more aggressive way.  He walked away the moment Jenna mentioned wanting a ménage and this clearly showed a man uncertain as to his place.  His troubled childhood left him a man of uncertainty when it came to emotions.  He's more than confident though when it comes to dominance with his time with Jenna being erotic to the extreme.  Both men bring forth their jealousy in a battle over Jenna that leaves her broken.  They use sex as a weapon which adds even more intensity to the numerous erotic encounters on display and it's not until they almost lose her do they learn how important she really is to them and how far they're willing to go to keep her.

This story vividly brings readers into the heart of BDSM and all its variations.  It can be difficult to read at times but Ms. Kacey's style creates such a sensual haze that you can't help but be caught up in it.  Though this is the sixth book in her Members Only series it can be read on its but will have greater impact reading all the books to see the individual interactions from the past that made them what they are today.  It's a super scorching book with a few unexpected twists that's immensely satisfying with a definitive HEA despite its storyline and I recommend it to those who enjoy cutting edge eroticism.

My rating for this is a B.
