Dane Golden—Best friend. Temptation in football cleats. Roommate?
I’m screwed.
His followers don’t call him Pretty Boy D for nothing. The guy is, literally, God’s gift to women. I should know. I’ve watched chicks throw themselves at him since puberty.
Sharing his loft should be simple. Easy. But shortly after I settle in, we realize being "just friends" was so much easier when we weren’t sleeping under the same roof.
Seven years of thinking we had this down to a science goes out the window the night Dane sees my “Never Have I Ever” list. Now, he’s on a mission to help me cross off the top four items. Some of which aren’t quite as innocent as he’d expect.
What he’s proposing will break the rules we agreed to when I first came to stay here. He wants me to give in, to let my guard down and face my feelings for once. At least, that’s what that wicked look in his eyes and the mounting heat between us suggests.
This isn’t how I imagined being roommates would go. But a girl can only stare temptation in its green eyes for so long and not weaken.
My best friend wants to have his way with me and, right or wrong…I think I might let him.
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
I'm a sucker for friends-to-lovers romances...and boy was this one an absolute delight! Not having previously read the Kings of Cypress Prep series, I'd not met this couple before, but the introduction of them here is a memorable start to their heartwarming journey. From their original meeting in middle school, one that had Dane defending Joss against another's racism, to their growing connection in college, I was left with a permanent smile on my face. That one act by Dane warmed my heart and was the foundation for an unwavering connection that evolved into something more as the story progressed, a story that was fun and flirty while teeming with sexual tension.
Dane was a flawless hero who I fell in love with immediately. Even as a young man he showed his good heart and strong protective instincts to one and all. He especially showed himself to be Joss's hero by being there whenever she needed help. As a college-aged man that protectiveness certainly hasn't diminished. Though he's rich and popular, with an athletic career starting to gain him even more fame, Dane's down-to-earth with an aw-shucks attitude. He still finds himself unerringly by Joss's side in a heartwarming connection that had me rooting for more to flourish between them. The moment he suggests she move in with him is the moment everything changes between them, forcing them to finally deal with their long-term sizzling feelings in a sweet and sexy journey to something deeper. Once their relationship turns more romantic Dane again proves how wonderful he is by respecting Joss both in and out of the bedroom while showing a talent for dirty talk that made me blush happily. Joss is his perfect match in many ways and seeing them together made my heart sing! Life hasn't been easy for her, but through every painful moment Dean was there supporting her unconditionally, enriching their connection through each turn of the page. Joss is an immensely appealing heroine, one you like from the very beginning because of her loyalty and genuine nature. Her and Dean are wonderful together with charming interactions and sweet and sexy undertones that hint at the possibility of something more. That something more is obvious to readers but has Joss holding back as Dane's the only solid and steady thing in her life and she doesn't want to lose him. His discovery of her Bucket List though brings them together, gives him the chance to make them deal with their long-buried feelings, in an endearing journey that made this a feel-good romance that was light on the angst while being full of heart and soul.
Readers looking for a delightful tale of friends to lovers will get all that and more with this story full of witty banter, sexy interactions, and sweet moments of heartfelt talks. With its perfect main couple, readers will be quickly immersed in this story that wraps up nicely while leaving the door open for more!
My rating for this is an A.
*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
Pretty Boy D is a full-length standalone novel. This book can absolutely be read on its own, but when you’re done, it’s recommended that you check out more from the Golden triplets and Joss in the complete enemies-to-lovers trilogy, KINGS OF CYPRESS PREP.
