EXCERPT:

The elevator door opened, and she stepped out and moved toward her room. Her fingers shook as she pulled her little metal key from her little handbag. This hotel still used metal keys, it was quaint. Henry reached down and plucked the key from her hand. He lifted her hand and kissed her fingers. "I'll protect you."
She swallowed the lump that sat in her throat. He'd protect her. When had anyone ever said that to her? The answer was never. Never in her life did another human being tell her they’d protect her.
Her lips quivered. "Thank you."

He was funny, kind, and eleven years older than me–a protector. But one ill-timed confession and he vanished from my life without so much as a goodbye.
Now I am called to testify against the men who kidnapped me and the gorgeous, infuriating man I tried so hard to forget is assigned to protect me. I want answers and he refuses to give them.

A girl I try to forget.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From the first page to the last this book kept me completely engrossed courtesy of its slow-burn road trip to HEA, a journey of second chances and healing for the heroine. This couple called to me, a couple who dealt with the pain of their pasts together in an empowering tale that played with my emotions.

Gemma's been in Scotty's life for years as he's the best friend of her brother, the strong and protective older friend who she wants in her life more than anything.  That truth had him running away four years ago, but he's now back to escort her to the trial of those who kidnapped her and left her with scars inside and out.  This time around Scotty doesn't plan on running away.  He wants Gemma and makes it his mission to give her the control her life's been lacking since her kidnapping.  He wants to empower her after her power was taken away by evil and with each mile traveled readers can see her getting stronger and more self-assured while bathing in his love.  The connection of these two started off a bit battered but grew stronger while warming my heart through their heartfelt talks.  Through it all Scotty is a drool-worthy hero, a strong man unwavering in his need to keep Gemma safe.  Gemma's a guarded but bruised heroine who's never wavered in her love for Scotty and their steamy interludes were powerful while making me blush a time or two.  Their connection might be seen as forbidden by some but I found it a richly rewarding journey to HEA that brought this series full circle. With this BIG CASE coming to an end, so too does the Redemption Road series, ended with a beautiful bow of love overcoming all and giving away power to show strength. Readers can definitely read this book on its own but will definitely want to get to know these characters better by reading about them from the very beginning in a series that I wholeheartedly recommend!

My rating for this is an A-

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Having just finished, and enjoyed, another book in this series I was more than ready to start reading this one.  With a compelling premise and a sizzling main couple I started reading with a smile on my face.  Upon finishing though I was left a bit conflicted to be honest as the character's actions marred my feelings for them while the numerous sexual encounters left little room for meaningful growth in the relationship between Jackson and Day.

There was a lot of superficiality in this story when it came to the actual romance, courtesy of the over-the-top, erotically-charged m/m interludes that started the moment Jackson and Day met.  This instant encounter seemed out of character for Jackson especially, a character who's usually so quiet and controlled.  Considering Day's painful past (a past that broke my heart) you think he'd be more cautious too, but they both burned up the pages whenever they were together.  While Day's difficulties living with a disability, and his past of sexual and physical abuse, drew me to him I was at times turned off by his blatantly inappropriate behavior when in public situations.  I understand it was a defense mechanism, a way to keep his heart guarded, but it still turned me off at times.  Jackson was committed to Day from the start but it was a bumpy ride getting him to accept the feelings Jackson had for him since only one other person ever loved him and she died in childhood.  The suspenseful part of this story was well-crafted, actually gave me some chills, but the ending was a bit rushed and too easy. Through all the bumps in the road it will take all of Jackson's talents, in and out of the bedroom, to find HEA with Day but it's a journey that will keep readers glued to the pages despite the small imperfections of this story.

My rating for this is a C+

Because Ronan doesn’t just want to protect me. He wants me in his bed too, and ceding my control to Ronan is more tempting than I ever imagined.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of rockstar romances I gobbled this one right up!  With its sizzling main couple, slow-burn journey of opposites attracting, and with a dash of suspense, I was on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last.  While this overall story wasn't groundbreaking it was entertaining and a definite satisfying start to a new rockstar series!

Iris is a wonderful heroine, a sassy tell it like it is, rocker who's full of self-assuredness. She's strong-willed, independent, and isn't one to live according to others.  When her bandmates decide that their fame means needing to keep her safe though, her world changes irrevocably with the introduction of a bodyguard.  She and the bodyguard are combustible from the very start as she doesn't like being told what to do.  There's a definite push/pull between them as she enjoys poking at the sexy beast sworn to protect her.  Ronan's one sexy beast, an Irishman with an accent to make you melt!  On the surface he seems very different from Iris with his stoic and rigid overprotective side shining through.  As readers get to see more of him, and as Iris starts wearing him down, we see a caring heart emerge who just wants to keep the person he's come to care about safe.  They're clearly opposites at the start but those differences soon become what binds them together in their slow-burn journey to HEA.

This was a sizzling story from the very start, entertaining readers with the sexual tension between two perfectly imperfect people.  Readers will find themselves drawn to this compelling couple as they work together to make their very different lives mesh.  Ms. Wolf has crafted a sexy and suspenseful rockstar romance, courtesy of a world that I would love to revisit.  So here's to Ms. Wolf’s rockstar world and it's reigning couple who burned up the pages.

Book Release Blitz for The Love You Hate by Rachel Robinson (REVIEW)........

A rich young woman forced into protective custody because of her grifting father finds things becoming combustible when she and her new bodyguard see their connection turning romantic.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of The Love You Hate by Rachel Robinson, along with getting my impressions of this suspenseful tale of starting over, then add it to your bookshelf!

Nate Sullivan
Keep this chick alive.
Don’t let her know I’m her bodyguard.
What should be an easy task, something I’m trained for, and well-practiced in, is a living nightmare. Presley is moody, thinks she’s funny when she’s not, impossible to track down, and highly unpredictable. As her Charge Man, I’m responsible for keeping her heart beating.
The thing is, the closer I get to her, the more my own heart starts beating...for her.
Charge Men don’t ever fall in love. Especially with their infuriating principals. It’s forbidden.
Presley Cohen
I went into a protection program after my father tanked the world’s economy. He is quite literally the most hated man in the world. Because of that, I’m a target. Gold Hawke, Colorado isn’t a place anyone dreams of visiting, let alone, living. It’s a far cry from the glamorous, billionaire lifestyle I’m accustomed to, but at least I’m breathing. I created a Re-Do Bucket List. It’s filled with things I would never be able to do in my former life in the spotlight. My new frenemy Nate Sullivan is infuriated by my list, but who doesn’t want to join a roller derby team? Or strip at a strip club? Or ride a bull?
Or make that exasperatingly attractive good guy fall in love with you?
I have nothing left to lose.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a reader who's always on the lookout for new authors I was drawn to the premise of this book and its tale of a forbidden romance set in a small town.  Add in a bit of suspense and you have what promised to be an enticing romance from a new-to-me author....and for a fair portion of the book it is a good read, especially after a slow and bumpy start.

Presley Cohen's one of the most hated women in America thanks to her thieving father's antics.  Because of the danger he's brought to her she's now in protective custody being watched over by a man who starts off hating her before becoming attracted to her. Starting her life over means REALLY starting over by doing all the things she's thought about doing but never got around to before with the creation of a list that brings her and her bodyguard closer together as the story progresses.  At the start of the story Presley's a bit hard to warm up to as she's a bit awkward in her interactions.  She's used to her money winning people over and now she has only herself to rely on.  I did applaud her quickly making the best of things though and jumping in wholeheartedly to work through her list, a journey that helps readers get to know her better.

Nate Sullivan is a sexy but rigid man, a bodyguard who has some issues with his new charge.  He finds her annoying, a bit ditzy, and doesn't understand her attempts at humor.  Despite his issues with her, he does find her attractive against his better judgment.  What starts out as a connection full of sexual tension also sees moments of disrespect on his part which made it hard to like him early on.  The more time they spend together though the more rewarding their connection becomes, where their differences are what cements their pairing by the latter half of the story.

Much of this story is familiar, but that doesn't make for a bad story as familiarity brings comfort.  The action in and out of the bedroom gets off to a slow start as well with me almost screaming while waiting to see some real steam between Nate and Presley. Despite the slow storyline, and lack of heat throughout a chunk of the book, this was still well-worth a few hours of reading time and has me looking forward to what comes next from Ms. Robinson.

My rating for this is a B-/C+

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

From the moment I picked up this book I was immediately swept up in an emotionally intense tale depicting the painful process of soldiers returning home, their lack of support and their feelings of being lost and alone in a country that forgets about them once their uniforms come off.  Add in a sassy and strong-willed songstress in need of protection and you end up with a suspenseful tale of opposites attracting, a tale full of heart and soul.

Tanner Clarke served his country with honor and dignity, put his life on the line for love of country, but his return home after being medically discharged has been anything but rewarding.  Having no support from his family, and having PTSD, has left him feeling isolated without a job and on the verge of being homeless.  I ached for Tanner and where he is at the start of this story as he's dejected and feeling at the end of his rope with nowhere to turn.  It's at this darkest moment that an angel comes into his life in the form of singer Quinn Wylder, a woman he met when he was in the military and who now offers him a home and a job.  It's a connection that changes both of their lives irrevocably, a connection that also pulled at my heartstrings in a tale of healing and support.  With a story that was realistically depicted, and sometimes hard to read, readers get to see that the return to civilian life isn't easy and without support it becomes heartbreaking.  Tanner's family is awful, never listening to him and blaming him for his PTSD.  There were times I wanted to smack them in fact, as his pain radiated off him in waves, and as he expressed some very dark thoughts at the start of the story. The lack of support from those who should've been the most supportive made me appreciate Quinn all the more.  She quickly became the lone light in his dark world, gave him unconditional support as he again put his life on the line for another to keep her safe from a stalker.  Tanner's a delicious hero, despite all his baggage.  At his core he's a caretaker, a man of honor who wears the creed of to protect and serve like a second skin.  He's a bit dark and gloomy, but when you're in need of protection, he's just what you need.  He's been drawn to Quinn since he last met her, but doesn't feel comfortable mixing business and pleasure since becoming her bodyguard.  You can't stop fate though and it's not long before their slow-burn romance gains strength.  Through heartfelt talks and their unwavering belief in each other, their connection grew as it warmed my heart.

Quinn Wylder is a wonderful heroine, one full of light with a kind heart, and she's just what Tanner's been missing since he returned home in a tale of opposites attracting. She loves music but hates being in the spotlight, especially with stalkers now crawling out of the woodwork as her band gains more notoriety.  Through their time together she gives Tanner the support that's been missing from his life and in turn he helps her believe more strongly in herself as her band gets more famous.  She also gives him moments of laughter that diminish the darkness in this empowering romance of starting over.

This is a powerful read, a gritty one too with flashes of much-appreciated humor, that pulled at my heartstrings from the first page to the last.  Tanner and Quinn are a wonderful couple whose slow-burn romance kept me glued to the pages in a tale of opposites attracting that had me rooting for these two every step of the way.  Their romance was immensely satisfying too as sweet and sensual moments were nicely balanced with the suspense of Quinn's stalker.  Quinn's bandmates were a nice addition too, providing a few moments of laughter along the way, and I'd love to see more of them in the future.  Once I turned the final page I felt happy seeing two people clearly meant to be find each other in a tale of unconditional support and healing and I definitely recommend it to readers looking for an epic love story!

My rating for this is an A.
