Maeve Jackson is starting over after a broken engagement—and mustering out of the Army. No job and no prospects, she spins out on black ice and totals her car.
When struggling vintner Luke Kaylor stops to help, they discover they’re distantly related. On a shoestring budget to convert his vineyard into a winery, he makes her a deal: prune grapevines in exchange for room and board.
But forgotten diaries and a haunted cabin kickstart a five-generational mystery with ancestors that have bones to pick. As carnal urges propel them into each other’s arms, they wonder: Is their attraction physical...or metaphysical?

EXCERPT:

“Mind if I camp out ’til the roads clear?”
“Under the circumstances?” The clerk shook his head. “Not a problem.”
“Thanks.” He started toward the sitting room and nearly bumped into Maeve, leaning against the wall. “Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.”
“You didn’t.” She tossed her chin. “I was cat-napping.”
“Right.” He compared her guarded veneer to her sleeping-beauty persona. Which is closer to her true self?
“Couldn’t help overhearing.” Gesturing toward the clerk with her chin, she grimaced. “I’m responsible for you being out tonight--”
“No.” He shook his head. “This is just a freak storm.”
“You don’t have to sleep in a chair.” She took a deep breath and gave a quick, tight-lipped smile. “My room has two queen beds, and you’re welcome to one of ’em.”
Unsure of the extent of her invitation, he did a double take.
“Just so we understand each other, this is a bunk, a place to sack out. Period. Amen.” She spoke in a low-pitched, no-nonsense voice. “Nothing more, so don’t get any--”
“Got it.” He covered his disappointment with a laugh. “Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I’ll be fine dozing by the fire.”
“Hey, I’ve bivouacked with soldiers in Afghanistan. We do what’s necessary under extenuating circumstances.” Shrugging, she glanced at the door. “And this blizzard qualifies.” Her face relaxed into a smile.
Her offer tempting, he compared sitting up all night to stretching out in a bed. Then he glimpsed the clerk.
“If you’re worried about my reputation, don’t be.” She laughed, the sound like sleigh bells tinkling on a crisp, wintry night.
What is it about her that conjures thoughts of other times--other eras?

Book Release Blast for Legacy by Marie James (REVIEW)……

An unconventional promise leads to an unforgettable romance between two people brought together through their mutual loss and pain.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Legacy by Marie James, along with getting my impressions of it, then add this 28th installment in the Cerberus MC series to your bookshelf too!

I never expected to see her again.
The connection we shared through her brother was severed when he died in combat.
Their parents were adamant that I never reach out to them again.
I forgot about the pact I made, my promise to make her mine if I wasn’t married by thirty.
The only answer I had for her when she showed up with that handwritten note was no.
Only Devyn Malloy isn’t the type to take no for an answer.
Cerberus welcomed her with open arms, but as that became enough for her, I realized it might not be enough for me...

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Twenty eight installments and still going strong!  Whenever I need a sweet and sensual tale I know that the Cerberus MC will give me just that in a reliably entertaining story.  And that is definitely what readers will get with this standalone story of loss and finding love and happiness when you least expect it.  With each turn of the page readers will be charmed by this slow-burn romance based on a promise to the sister of a best friend, a promise that eventually becomes a lifeline to reaching a dream and getting a HEA.

Emmett “Legacy” Wilson always knew he was destined to be a Marine.  Too bad that once he joined up things didn't go as planned.  With the painful death of his best friend, who joined because of their friendship, Legacy was left adrift and feeling guilty.  Because of the death he's further banished from being part of his friend's family, instead becoming a part of the Cerberus MC.  Years later though there's a blast from the past courtesy of his friend's little sister and the endearing promise he made her years ago...a promise that's now a lifeline for her.  Coming face to face with the young girl he feels obligated to rouses all sorts of feelings within him, feelings of attraction and guilt just a few of those feelings in a slow and steady journey to HEA.  Legacy's a likable hero with an endearing sense of honor.  My heart hurt for him as he dealt with the loss of his friend, cut off from those most likely to help him heal.  Upon seeing Devyn he immediately felt unworthy of her, saw all the reasons they shouldn't be together, but her determination fueled their journey to HEA.

Devyn Malloy also suffered much when her brother died.  She became nothing but a ghost in the eyes of her parents as everything was always about their son.  They took care of her basic needs but none of her emotional ones.  For years she puts up with being a shadow but the moment she decides to grab something for herself, her parents kick her out and try to derail her dream of becoming a fashion designer.  Devyn thankfully remembers a long ago promise that has Legacy (and the Cerberus MC) acting as a safe haven where she finally starts to feel loved, acknowledged, and supported.  Devyn's a likable heroine with a surprising sense of maturity.  She might be 18 in years, but her actions and decisions speak of someone much older.  Devyn's a determined young woman, determined in her choice of careers, and in claiming the man she's always been drawn to in a slow-burn romance I was cheering for every step of the way.

This was a sweet, sentimental, and sensual second chance romance that warmed my heart while slowly building and becoming more richly rewarding.  The connection between Legacy and Devyn also evolved into something more emotional, something that acted as a healing balm to them both after their mutual loss.  The Cerberus MC once again offered solid support, giving Devyn a sense of family that she's been missing.  Old faces, along with a few new ones, has me looking forward to what comes next courtesy of this unconventional family.

My rating for this is a B+

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Readers looking for an engaging story, with a heartwarming romance set in a small town, get all that and more with this series starter that ticked many boxes for me.  The storyline was one full of twists and turns, turns that were both suspenseful and romantic, turns that brought a tear to my eye while putting a smile on my face.  In this story of second chances readers will find themselves captivated from the first page to the last, cheering this couple on as they find their way back to each other after years of emotional pain.

Lucas Carson and Simone Hensley were once in love, tightly bound together before her brother Aiden and he were deployed to Afghanistan and everything turned bad for the young couple.  War is hell at times and it left Lucas and Aiden with PTSD...seemingly leading to Aiden's suicide and years of Lucas and Simone not talking.  Her returning home to care for her injured grandmother though leads to her reuniting with Lucas at a time when he needs her help most...when he's been framed for a crime he didn't commit. Just as he needs her to convey an image of a responsible family man, she needs him for the same to get her online business off the ground which leads to a fake relationship that slowly turns oh so real once again.  Theirs is a bumpy journey to HEA, one that has them addressing their painful pasts in an attempt to move forward.  The issues dealt with here are realistic and a big part of today's culture.  The fallout from these issues was heartbreaking, led to years of loneliness, and I hurt alongside this couple as they talked through their pasts to find healing.  The mystery surrounding the crime Lucas is accused of is intriguing, the guilty party well-disguised, and the REAL reason behind it surprisingly connected to the past in a storyline that kept me frantically turning the pages.

On a whole this was an immensely satisfying series starter with a very likable main couple who get put through the wringer to reach their HEA.  The mystery and suspense was fresh and well-crafted with a nicely balanced romance that was sweet and sensual. The secondary characters were also strong with delightful and supportive banter between the brothers.  Those looking for a well-rounded read will definitely want to add this one to their bookshelf while waiting to see where life takes these brothers next!

My rating for this is an A.

Book Release Blitz for Jailbait by Lani Lynn Vale (REVIEW)......

An ex-con who lost his freedom in defense of a young girl finds an unending connection to her that might be the only thing to save his heart and soul once he's free in this gritty romance that will keep readers glued to the pages.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Jailbait by Lani Lynn Vale, along with getting my impressions of this third installment in the Souls Chapel Revenants MC series, then be sure to add it to your bookshelf!

The first time I saw her was across the room at a bar. I had no idea at the time that she was only sixteen. All I knew was that she was beautiful, she was sending me do-me vibes from across the room, and I was fresh off a deployment where there’d been nobody but men for nine of the longest months of my life.
The second time that I saw her was at a court hearing that would decide how long I’d be sent to prison for. She was a cute little curly-haired blonde with wide, expressive eyes, a banging body, and the reason that I’d gone to prison in the first place.
The third time I saw her was through a glass divider of the prison visitation room as she waited for her stepfather, my lawyer, to tell me how sorry he was that he lost my case. Especially when I’d been the one to kill the man that was about to kill his daughter.
The last time, the time that I decided enough was enough, was when I saw her at my bar eight weeks after I’d been set free.
Unlucky for her, I’d stopped being a good guy about two seconds after those bars closed behind me twelve years ago. Now all that was left was a shell of a man that didn’t see the good in anything.
Anything except for her.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Ms. Vale continues to be my go-to author when it comes to MC-fueled romances courtesy of her compelling characters, steamy interactions, and intensely emotional pairings set amidst a gritty world of action and suspense.  This latest release grabbed me from the very start with an unforgettable first meeting that laid an epic foundation between a young woman trying to break free from her father and a veteran whose one good deed changed his life irrevocably.  The twelve years that have passed since their explosive first meeting were fraught with pain, disillusionment, and decisions that utterly changed them.  But it's clear that it was a journey that was meant to be and it kept me wholeheartedly rooting for this admirable pair to get their richly-deserved HEA.

Readers will fall for Trick the moment they meet him as he's a truly good guy, a caring and supportive brother/son, and a good friend who (for just one time refuses to let his friend get the girl) wants one night just for himself before sacrificing his plans for his family.  Little does he know though just how much he'll be sacrificing for the young woman who captivated him from the very start!  After a prison stint resulting from protecting the addictive young woman, Trick is a bit changed upon leaving prison.  He's a bit angry, a bit bitter, frustrated by the raw deal fate served him.  He's also angry with himself over his unrelenting attraction to that young woman...a woman who's now living across the street from him.  Even though he blames her for all his lost years, he can't deny that he still wants her.  In a journey of second chances, a journey full of angst and sexual tension, he wants her and makes it clear that she'll be his.  Trick's a sexy beast, a man hardened by his prison stint, who still shows a caring and protective side.  In scenes with his sister he's especially protective and it endeared him to me all the more.  Through each high and low, through each hard fought moment of happiness, and through each steamy encounter Trick oozed sex appeal along with a true and honest heart of gold.  He was a tarnished hero definitely, but a hero nonetheless and I was completely drawn to him and his epic second chance romance.

All it took was one event to change a life completely....and for exotic young woman, Swayze, that event was an life-altering meeting with a just returned veteran.  Theirs was a crackling connection from the moment they laid eyes on each other and I loved seeing the first steps to what promised to be a powerful romance.  Despite her strong will and commanding presence Swayze's life wasn't an easy one.  But during that short interaction with Trick things were looking good and felt right.  In the blink of an eye though it all went bad and it led to 12 years of guilt weighing on her.  It also led to personal changes that had her focusing on becoming a lawyer.   She decided to make it her mission to help those who needed help most, to right blatant wrongs, in an empowering journey that shows her to be a kickass heroine.  Despite her sweet and sunny looks she's a heroine who men should never underestimate as she's a real spitfire.  She's a woman who knows who and what she wants...and after 12 years of waiting it's Trick she wants in a second chance at HEA that pulled at my heartstrings.  Swayze's an immensely likable heroine, one who could've left her past behind, but who stayed to support the man who protected her.  Theirs isn't an easy journey as there's years of anger still weighing on him, but their connection can't be ignored and the sizzling push/pull between them held me captive.

This was an epic romance from the first page to the last depicting an unforgettable connection almost broken by fate (and 12 years apart) before their romance rose from the ashes like a phoenix.  It's an emotionally intense connection that frustrated me a time or two, occasionally made my heart ache, all while pulling me into this pair's hard-fought journey to HEA.  Trick and Swayze were a wonderful couple, a match made in Heaven, who were clearly meant to be from the very beginning.  In scenes that were teeming with sexual tension, crackling with their strong wills, I was rooting for them every step of the way while their connection to the rest of the Souls Chapel Revenants members was seamless.  I enjoyed seeing more glimpses of the other members of this MC, loved getting more clues as to what this MC is and what its goals are, and am particularly drawn to Lynn (the man who's been finding members for the club).  I was also drawn to Beck, Six, and Hunt as their brotherly and protective sides showed through to have me counting down the days until their stories take center stage. This second chance at romance was a journey full of heart and soul, a journey full of danger too courtesy of the easily expendable bad guys, and it's one I highly recommend to others as Ms. Vale has crafted another winner!

My rating for this is an A.

All's fair in war...and in love...
Marcus Braddock, former general and newly appointed Duke of Hampton, is back from war. Now, not only is he surrounded by the utterly unbearable ton, he's mourning the death of his beloved sister, Elise. Marcus believes his sister's death wasn't an accident, and he's determined to learn the truth—starting with Danielle Williams, his sister's beautiful best friend.
Danielle is keeping deadly secrets of her own. She has dedicated her life to a charity that helps abused women—the same charity Elise was working for the night she died. When Danielle's work puts her life in danger, Marcus comes to her rescue. But Danielle may not be the one in need of rescuing...

EXCERPT:

Marcus twirled Dani through a circle so unexpectedly that she glanced up at him, startled by the movement.
“Elise was too good of a horsewoman to be thrown from her mare. Certainly not on a morning trot through the park. Especially when the groom said she didn’t go out on horseback at all that morning.” His gaze fixed on hers with a hardness that told her he’d brook no dissembling. “So let’s start over with the truth, shall we?”
“I did tell you the truth! I told you everything that the guards...” As her voice faded, the confusion on her beautiful face melted into anguish.
Her reaction pierced him. She certainly wasn’t pretending the emotions behind that. Not even an actress at the Theatre Royal would have been good enough to fake such raw pain and sorrow.
Fresh guilt assaulted him. Good God, did she truly not know? Had it never occurred to her that Elise’s death hadn’t happened at all the way she’d claimed?
He searched her face for answers. “You didn’t know that she’d left Charlton Place at night, alone, to meet a man?”
“No. Or I would have stopped her.”
Looking at her now, hearing the resolve in her voice, that he very much believed. “And John Porter?”
“I don’t know who he is.”
A bitter taste rose on his tongue. “Was he her lover?”
“No! Elise would never...“
Her cheeks flushed, and she glanced away in embarrassment. Danielle might have blossomed into a woman while he’d been away, but her reluctance to put to words that his sister had taken a lover assured him that she was still innocent. He had no idea why he should care, but he thanked God that some things hadn’t changed.
“Why else would a widow meet up alone with a man at night?”
“Not for that.” Irritation sparked in her eyes that he would assume that of his sister. Despite himself, a warmth blossomed in his chest at her defense of Elise’s reputation. “Not her.”
His fingers tightened around hers as he continued to waltz her around the room. “Are you certain she wasn’t planning to elope?”
She gaped at him, thunderstruck. “What on earth makes you think that?”
“In his note, Porter wrote that everything was set for their vanishing that night.”
She blanched and missed a step. If his arms weren’t around her, she would have stumbled again.
She rasped out hoarsely as she hurried back into step with him, “A vanishing?”
The way she repeated that, her haunted expression—Good God. Instantly, his blood froze. “You know more than you’re telling.”
She gave a fierce shake of her head. “I didn’t know about any of this!”
“Did she die on the way to meet him or coming back?” His gaze narrowed, watching her closely as he dared to finally put voice to his fears. “Or did he murder her?”
She gasped, the strangled sound so pained that he flinched. “Murder?” The word came as barely any sound at all on her lips, and she began to tremble, so hard that she nearly shuddered in his arms. “Oh, God...Elise...“
“So I’ll ask again.” He twirled her through a tight circle, one meant to keep her off-balance. “Who is John Porter?”
“I don’t know.”
“What did he mean by their vanishing?”
She fiercely shook her head. “I don’t—“
“And Scepter?”
At that, she halted right there in his arms, smack in the middle of the dance floor, bringing him to a stop with her. For one fleeting heartbeat, he saw fear grip her face, the same fear he’d seen on every man under his command the first time they’d charged into battle.
Then it was gone, and in its place came anger.
“How dare you?” Outrage filled her voice. “This is why you asked me to waltz? Not as an old friend of the family, not even to commiserate together in our grief—this dance was nothing but the battle strategy of a war-hardened general, to keep me from fleeing while you interrogated me!”
“My sister was murdered, and I’m damned well going to find out why.” His own anger flared in response, yet he was aware of the crowded dance floor around them and kept his face carefully inscrutable. “John Porter warned Elise to stay away from Scepter.” He searched her face for answers. “Tell me what you know about them. What is it? Where can I find the people running it?”
“I don’t know.” The icy look she gave him was one of absolute obstinacy. “And for your sake, General,” she said, her eyes practically glowing, “I wouldn’t tell you even if I did.”
He clenched his jaw. “I need to know what you’re hiding about—“
“Stop!” she ordered hoarsely, pushing herself free of his arms. “Please. Just stop.”
As the other couples continued to dance on around them, the attention of the room fell upon them, and everyone craned their necks to see what was wrong. But Marcus didn’t care that whispers went up at the scene they were making or that Claudia now stood in the doorway, watching them curiously. Danielle Williams knew more than she was admitting. Far more. He wouldn’t stop pressing until he had the entire truth and brought to justice the man responsible.
The waltz ended, and the last notes died with a flourish. When she stepped back, he had no choice except to let her go. But this conversation was far from over.
Aware of the attention of the crowd still upon them and clearly wanting to lessen the spectacle they were making of themselves, she held out her hand and dropped into a curtsy as if nothing were wrong.
“Your sister was a good woman who dedicated her life to helping those in need,” she said between deep inhalations as she gathered herself enough to put a smile onto her face for the crowd around them. “Keep that memory, and let the rest go. I beg you.”
He took her hand and bowed over it, attempting to appear as if they were simply finishing the waltz. He murmured against her fingers, “I have no intention of letting this go.”
