Book Spotlight for Redemption by Randi Cooley Wilson (Review)

Today I'm bringing you an intense and atmospheric read that is the third installment in the Revelation series.  Keep reading to get a glimpse of Redemption by Randi Cooley Wilson along with my impressions of it.  You'll also learn a bit about the author before adding this saga to your bookshelf.

LET'S GET TO KNOW A BIT ABOUT THE AUTHOR.....

TSP:  How did you come up with the idea for this story?
RCW:  The Revelation Series was an idea that progressed over time. As a long-time lover of the paranormal romance genre, I was craving something different and distinctive. In 2008, I was home on maternity leave and starting writing, which is something I do frequently as a creative outlet. Before I even realized it, my one-off sentences, and character backgrounds morphed into a story. From there, I folded in my obsession with John Milton’s Paradise Lost and my love for gothic architecture and really romanced the idea of the mythology behind my supernatural creatures.
TSP:  Tell us about your first book. What would readers find different about the first one and your most recent published work?
RCW:  This is an interesting question. I feel the more I write, the deeper my books get. Revelation, (The Revelation Series, book #1) was really about the mythology behind the supernatural creatures and the world building that surrounds the characters. Restraint, (The Revelation Series, book #2) was about the love between the main characters, Asher and Eve. Redemption, (The Revelation Series, book #3) takes you deeper into their world and also allows the secondary characters to shine, which I love.
TSP:  What is for you the perfect book hero?
RCW:  This is a great question. I prefer a hero who is strong, emotional, overprotective, yet has flaws.
TSP:  Tell us something that people would be surprised you know how to do.
RCW:  Um…I can twerk (smirks).

A LOVE RETURNS.
A LOYALTY IS BROKEN.
AND WAR BEGINS.
For Eve Collins, darkness has descended after her love vanished into the night sky. A new protector has been appointed, one who challenges everything she’s believed to be true.
In this third installment of The Revelation Series, Eve will become aware of dangers and worlds that exist only in her nightmares, and bloodline secrets that will trigger a centuries old war.
You can escape anything, except your destiny.

EXCERPT:

“Someday, when this is all over, I promise you’ll have the peace you’re craving. It will be just me and you, siren,” he vows quietly.
I sigh in contentment. “That’s all I want, Ash.”
“Then I’ll move Heaven and earth to make sure you get it.”
I turn to face him and push up on my tiptoes. Leaning in, I give him a slow, molten kiss. I push everything I feel for him into the gesture. I want to fill every space of his soul, the way he does mine.
It’s like I’m trying to climb inside his heart and live there. I’m not sure how long we stay like this, in our own private, perfect moment, but I never want to leave.
Breathlessly, I pull away. My eyes find Asher’s. “What is it you want the most?”
Asher’s intense gaze holds mine, taking my breath away.“Redemption.”

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Picking up where the previous book left off, Eve is reeling from Asher's absence but the upcoming war doesn't allow time for grief as she's given a new handler.  Though she's young she knows she has to put her pain behind her and under Gage's tutelage she's becoming stronger and more independent.  Whereas Asher tended to over-protect her Gage lets her stand on her own, only stepping in when he needs to.  Though she grows close to Gage it's no love match.  There's mutual respect and deep friendship, which is somewhat tainted by his subtly questionable nature that leaves me worried about his loyalties as at times he seems clearly entrenched on the side of good, while at other times..... No matter what though I found him a compelling and delectable yet mysterious man.

Through it all Asher is still Eve's one and only love which becomes more complicated upon his return and as the truth of their bloodlines is revealed.  Their relationship is frowned upon by the Council which adds in even more emotional turmoil in addition to the truths about each of them revealed here.  Asher is a strong and overwhelming man who consumes the scenes he's in.  He's poetic and romantic and will always protect Eve.  Knowing what we know about them now though gives their relationship a Romeo and Juliet vibe.

Along with these main characters being the lynchpin of this story, former secondary characters step into the spotlight here too.  Callan continues to entertain and his humor is greatly appreciated in a story arc getting deeper and more emotionally intense.  McKenna is a strong-willed and very outspoken woman.  While some might see her as crass, I appreciated her brutal honesty in saying what needed to be said.  Their contributions and interactions with others lightened my mood and made for a more emotionally well-rounded story.

This is a story that takes you on a wild ride.  It's full of twists and turns, laughter and tears, along with truths revealed and a traitor on the loose.  Hell's getting ever closer and with the kidnapping of someone close to Eve there's a sense of doom on the horizon, a helplessness that evil will prevail.  Seeing Eve get stronger gives us hope for the future, but with an ending that leaves you screaming in agony it's anyone's guess what the future will bring.  With its well-developed world-building, multi-faceted characters, and sensual and maturing romance between Asher and Eve this is a story getting more compelling.  Though this book quickly fills you in on what's come before, readers will find it more richly rewarding having read it from the start.  Those who enjoy a vividly drawn fantasy that puts readers on an emotional roller coaster will want to hop on this compelling journey with lots of travails yet to reveal!

My rating for this is an A.

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
