Platinum Passion by Jennifer Lynne
Three people. One erotic fantasy. And a twentieth wedding anniversary like no other.
Jeannie yearns for the return of passion in her marriage. Jake wants new excitement in the form of another man, in a way that won't upset the balance of his relationship with his wife. Pothos is one of the erotes and an aspect of Eros, the Olympian god of desire. This couple's distinctive yearning has called to him, and by the power of the erotes he intends to rekindle the flame of Jeannie and Jake's passion in a night of desire that could be the ultimate platinum anniversary gift.
And when the gods of love decide your marriage needs a boost, they never do it by halves.
"Platinum Passion" is the first in the Gods of Love series of stand-alone novellas with the erotes as a common theme. The erotes are Pothos, god of sexual yearning, Himeros, god of sexual desire and Anteros, god of requited/unrequited love. All are the children of Aphrodite and aspects of the primal god of desire, Eros.
EXCERPT 1:
He came to her on the night of their twentieth wedding anniversary.
She was lying in bed, straining to read the last page of her book in the weak circle of light cast by the bedside lamp, trying to ignore Jake’s gentle snore as he lay beside her fast asleep. She sighed with that mix of contentment and regret that she always felt when a good book ended, and was about to remove her reading glasses when he was just…there.
Standing in the doorway of her bedroom clad only in faded denim jeans.
She gaped, too stunned by his appearance to even think about being afraid, though afterwards she wondered what the hell was wrong with her that she hadn’t made a sound. Not even a squeak of terror.
But it wasn’t terror she felt as she stared at the stranger in her house.
The stranger who had just stepped straight off the cover of the romance novel she was still holding and was standing there smiling and beckoning.
She looked down at the picture in front of her and then back up at the real deal in her bedroom. Almost exactly the same, with unruly black hair curling down into eyes that pale emerald color of the sea on a fine day, sharply cut cheekbones that gave him a sensual air, and a darkly tanned body so honed to muscular perfection she could see why he was currently the most popular model of the day for romance book covers.
Including the one in her suddenly vice-like grip.
EXCERPT 2:
He laughed. “The power of the gods is immense. Tonight, this country shifts from winter into spring. And the influence of the erotes is strongest at the changing of the seasons. I plucked this location from your place of yearning. It called to me, that yearning of yours.”
“The influence of the…erotes?” She stumbled over the unfamiliar word. “Just who the heck are you?”
He raised his head proudly. “I am Pothos,” he said, and it was as if the statement vibrated the air around them. All of a sudden he seemed taller, stronger and more otherworldly. He looked like a god of old, shimmering with power, the golden skin alight with moonbeams and his face a study in supremacy as he stared at her down his nose. She felt a frisson of fear touch her heart in tandem with the mounting desire.
If I touch him now, will I self-combust?
Like a moth with a death wish, she stretched out her fingers anyway, ran them over his chest that did indeed feel like satin, and felt the charge of an electrical current coursing through her veins.
Her lips parted and she let out a gasp.
Power. So much power.
But then he shook his head and grinned, and the momentary spell was broken. She dropped her hand and surreptitiously rubbed her still-tingling fingertips.
“I am the one who has been sent to fulfill your fantasies, Jeannie. Yours and Jake’s. This is the night your marriage gets back its passion. Twenty years. It is worth celebrating, and tonight will be my platinum anniversary present to you both.”
EXCERPT 3:
“So this is not of my own will? Nor Jake’s?” She frowned up at him, remembering the sensation of something ‘other’ influencing how she felt. “You’re manipulating us into wanting what we don’t really want? That’s wrong, Pothos. Just…wrong.”
His cheeks flushed and those delicious lips thinned. “I never force anyone into anything they do not want. That is not why I am here.” He let go of her arms and paced a few feet up the beach, then back. Clearly her words had agitated him. “No one has ever rejected me before. Are you rejecting me? Me?”
“Well…”
He was staring at her, confusion written all over his features when she didn’t immediately deny it. “I am here because you yearn for something more in your relationship. You yearn for passion, and desire, and all the things you had in the beginning that have been lost along the way. Jakes yearns, too. He wants excitement back in your lives just as keenly as you do. I am here because your longing called me, Jeannie. I am Pothos. I am the personification of everything you and Jake need to complete your relationship and truly become soul mates.”
He ran an aggravated hand through his dark hair. “Am I…by the gods, am I…mistaken?” That last word came out so reluctantly, so agonized, that she couldn’t help but smile.
Despite her feelings of guilt, his explanation called to her very essence. She did want more in her relationship with Jake. So much more.

ReplyDeleteThanks for having me to visit today!
ReplyDeleteLove your excerpts. I am glad the heroine still prefers her husband to the hunk.
ReplyDeleteHi Mom Jane! Yes, there is true love between Jeannie and Jake, and while there is something very precious that develops between the couple and Pothos, it is still a story about a marriage that needs saving. Glad you loved the excerpts :)
DeleteThank you for the excerpts. Erote is not a word I knew before. I'm always eager to learn.

Hi Marybelle, thank you! Yes, when I was researching Eros and Greek mythology I cam across the term myself for the first time. Lots of different versions of the erotes myth to choose from. I loved the idea of desire being so large that it can only be encompassed across several beings :)
DeleteThanks everybody for coming by my site! Thanks especially to Jennifer for such a fun and sexy read!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure! And thank you for having me! I'm thoroughly enjoying my very first book tour. I really enjoy the interaction with other book lovers :)
DeleteJennifer...Here in the US (at least in the Eastern part of the US), it's beginning to feel a lot like Spring. It's right around 80 degrees and sunny today...with lots of pollen. Is it starting to feel like Fall in Australia?
ReplyDeletecatherinelee100 at gmail dot com
Definitely, Catherine. It has still been quite warm the past few days (75-80 deg F) but rather dark and stormy with it. And the days are suddenly seeming much shorter than they did a few weeks ago. One of the things I love about summer is the extended daylight - especially in the evening, and it's clear that's now gone till next summer. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteCan I borrow Pathos for our 18th wedding anniversary? LOL!
