He's waiting for his big break...she could be headed for heartbreak.
Slade
A decade of playing local bars and festivals with my band is over.
Just like that.
Big break? More like broke up. Broken Thunder-- maybe the name was a sign. Now I find myself at a crossroad, not ready to leave music behind.
An audition for the legendary band Reckless Fury, could change everything.
At least that's what I hope until I see who's calling the shots.
No names. One incredible night. It's her!
I had no idea she was the Princess of Rock, when she was rocking my world. All I need is a chance to prove myself.
With her.
With the band.
She thinks she knows why I'm here, she's wrong.
Gracie
I was raised on Rock n' Roll, and now it's time to prove I'm more than the spoiled daughter of Reckless Fury's lead singer.
I'm not just with the band now, I'm managing one—the Velvet Dolls.
And my band...is falling apart.
It's time for a change. A big one.
My only desire is to take this all-girl act to the next level. Speaking of desire. It’s him!
The smoking hot guy I had a one-night stand with months ago. The one I thought I'd never see again. The one I can’t seem to forget.
He thinks I don't know why he's here, he's wrong.
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
As a fan of rockstar romances I can never get enough of them which is what immediately drew me to this series starter. While reading it though I found an immensely appealing main couple teeming with sexual tension, a realistic depiction of the music world, along with a ton of emotional baggage...particularly coming from the heroine. Add in some unforgettable secondary characters (I'm looking at you Gunner!) and there's much to look forward to after turning the final page of this book.
Slade's always been drawn to music and it's often been an emotional outlet when he's needed it most. Raised by his grandparents he's a bit of a loner, he's never had a large support system to count on, which helped fuel his determination to take his band to the top. He and his bandmates became like family which made their break-up all the harder for him. He never saw it coming and is feeling sad and betrayed when he sees a stunning blond coming his way to engage in a one-night stand that will change everything for him....both personally and professionally. He and Gracie set off fireworks the moment their eyes meet, and though it's just one night, he never stops thinking of her. His need to get back into the music world also consumes his thoughts which makes for a very complicated reunion when he auditions for a new band...one that Gracie's a part of. From there the angst really kicks in as the two of them try to remain professional while their hearts and bodies are demanding oh so much more. I found Slade a drool-worthy hero, one who comes off a bit cocky and arrogant early on, but who shows a more vulnerable side as the story progresses and as he and Gracie dance around each other. From the very start he and Gracie are combustible with each turn of the page turning up the heat even more while they worked through years of emotional baggage in a journey that held me captive.
Readers were first introduced to Gracie Phillips in My Blue, a book that told the story of her bandmate and best friend, Ella. The glimpses of her were intriguing and left me dying to learn more about this daughter of rockstar royalty. When this story starts readers see a strong-willed woman who's determined to make it on her own in the music industry, a woman emotionally bruised by being abandoned by her mother as a baby. It's a decision that's left her guarded and full of self-doubts when it comes to commitment and matters of the heart. When it comes to music it's been a bumpy journey so far though after two of her bandmates leave the group upon finding their own HEAs. Their decisions leave her feeling abandoned and unsure about the band's future which leads to a night of commiseration with a stranger also feeling abandoned. It's an unforgettable night of an instant attraction amidst scorching bed play, but it's one night only...or so Gracie thinks. When her one-night stand returns to audition six months later it won't be just one night as it's clear that they make beautiful music together. Gracie and Slade are a decadently delightful pair, struggling to be professional while longing to give into each other in a connection that crackles. Not only is Gracie dealing with her feelings for Slade, but she's also dealing with her past and the abandonment issues her mother engendered in her...issues that come roaring to the surface through a few surprising twists and turns. Through it all though I liked Gracie, I found her strong, sassy, with an absolutely charming relationship with her dad. She was definitely a daddy's girl and I didn't mind it one bit as their scenes warmed my heart.
This was a quick and satisfying read, one that stands strongly on its own but that has me longing to read more about every single character found in this book. Gracie and Slade both carry some emotional baggage and at times it did weigh them down, but their togetherness helped them work through the rough patches. Theirs is a connection that sizzled through banter teeming with sexual tension and a longing for more that practically jumped off the page. The balance between work and play was bumpy courtesy of secrets coming out and surprising twists and turns, but it had me cheering them on wholeheartedly. Surrounding this compelling main couple was an equally wonderful cast of secondary characters. Among those leaving a very drool-worthy impression on me were Gracie's dad, Dane and Slade's friend, Gunner. These two characters oozed sex appeal and have me longing to learn more about the men behind the image. Ms. Jacobs has crafted an entertaining addition to the rockstar romance genre, creating a story full of heart, soul, and steam that has me counting down the days until the next installment in this series hits bookshelves!
My rating for this is an A.
