GAME CHANGER is book 2 in the U of J Series and cannot be read as a stand-alone. It picks up right from the cliff LOOKING TO SCORE threw you off of. Can our too-charming-for-his-own-good Casanova win back his pint-sized, rainbow-haired sass queen in this second chance sports romance? The banter between these two continues until Mase and Kay’s story concludes in PLAYING FOR KEEPS out in December.
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
After the gut-wrenching cliffhanger of the previous book, I was desperate to return to this couple as I felt adrift in a sea of sadness over all that had transpired before. Picking up right where Looking to Score left off, readers will quickly find themselves again on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as Mason tries to win back the woman he stupidly let get away. It won't be easy though as Mason was a certifiable ass which will require lots of groveling in order for Kayla to take another chance on him.
This is a fairly straightforward story of second chances, forgiveness, with a few secrets still floating around that will continue to hang over this couple's HEA. A nice pace was set from the very start, with Mason knowing who and what he wants, and going after Kayla's heart wholeheartedly through sweet words and deeds. He was determined to be the man Kayla needed him to be this time around and it wasn't long before he claimed my heart. He's a truly delicious hero and the banter between him and Kayla crackled whenever they were together. He touched every one of my emotions in an angst-fueled journey of forgiveness that was teeming with sexual tension as well as weighed down by ghosts of the past. I might've hated Mason just a little at the start of this book, but by the end I was won over...and hoped that Kayla would be too. When it came to Kayla, I found her to be an equally wonderful heroine. She's strong and sassy, with just a hint of vulnerability when it comes to her heart. She's the kind of heroine you wish were real so you could be friends as she's loyal and always putting others first. She's also surrounded by a delightful support system courtesy of a family that charmed me and who always made the scenes they were in richer.
From start to finish I was completely captivated by the second chance brewing between Mason and Kayla as they traversed a bumpy road to HEA. Twists and turns and their pasts affecting their futures all combined to continually pull at my heartstrings in a tale that made me smile a time or two before hurting my heart the next moment. Alongside this "meant to be" couple was an also entertaining cast of secondary characters. Among the most memorable were Kayla's family as well as Travis, Mason's friend. He's a drool-worthy character in his own right, full of charm and quick to put a smile on my face. I definitely hope to see more of him in the final installment that's for sure. If the previous cliffhanger left me bruised, this one left me broken, trying to pick up the pieces of my heart while waiting for the final installment in the UofJ series to hit bookshelves in December!
My rating for this is an A.
*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
