Miller
They called me the pretty boy on and off the ice. Hockey’s most eligible bachelor.
When my teammate asked me to donate one date to his charity, I figured why not. Worst case, I’d spend the night with a fan. Best-case scenario, she would be hot. What I wasn’t expecting was for my dream girl to be the highest bidder.
For years, she brushed me off, and now, I finally had a chance to take her out and show her who I really was.
With only one shot at this, I really hoped I didn’t mess it up.
Layla
At the top of my career, I was riding the wave of my sports talk show having the best rating on the radio. I also made it a rule to never date any sports players.
It was my one rule, and I was sticking to it until I bid on the only man who gets under my skin.
All it takes is one touch, one night, one kiss, and only one chance.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

After reading the first book in this series I knew I needed to read this one the moment it came out.  From the first page to the last I was left charmed by these characters and swooning over the drool-worthy hero who's not at all the playa the heroine, and the fans, thinks he is in this hockey-fueled romance.  Every emotion arose in me with each turn of the page, from laughter at the beginning to moments of heartbreak in the middle, to an ending that had me cheering and totally wanting my own Miller.

Miller Adams is co-captain of Dallas' hockey team, a popular player both on and off the ice (particularly with the ladies), but he's becoming older and wiser which will allow a different side of himself to emerge as the story progresses.  A few years back he met the smart and strong-willed sports radio host Layla, found himself instantly attracted, but blew his chance with her after she saw him with someone else.  Since then he's never forgotten her and whenever they see each other he's always trying to get her to go out with him. He finally succeeds one night at a charity bachelor auction...with the help of alcohol...but it's a date that she makes him work for.  Through moments of humor, moments of push/pull, these two start learning more about each other in an entertaining journey that stripped them bare as readers got to see what was behind the public's perceptions.  Miller was cocky and a bit arrogant in the past but here he's a real charmer!  He's a guy that enjoyed all the benefits of being a star hockey player, but now realizes what's truly important and can't see a future with anyone except Layla.  He's committed to her and does all he can to prove it in a journey that has a few bumps along the way which makes the richly rewarding ending all the more satisfying.

Layla Peterson is a confident and self-assured woman, independent with a successful sports radio show.  She's a serious soul who's been hurt in the past and doesn't plan on letting herself get hurt again.  Though she too felt a combustible spark when first meeting Miller years ago, she quickly relegated him to the doghouse for his manwhore behavior that night with another woman.  Seeing him repeatedly since that time has given her an itch that she doesn't want to scratch, but it's difficult to keep ignoring him when he's working so hard to get her attention.  The night of a charity bachelor auction changes everything between them though, giving her an excuse to give in to him even as she makes him run through hoops with laugh out loud results...thanks to Grandma Nancy and her unforgettable first “date” with Miller!  On a whole theirs is an emotional journey of growth, a slow burn that brought out a more playful side to her courtesy of the fun and flirty Miller.  Her past has left her a bit bruised, with some big secrets that make for some conflict and heartache along the way, but by the end I was left cheering for this oh so worthwhile journey to HEA that they undertook together.

From the first page to the last this was an entertaining read full of heart and soul, a journey that played with my emotions, and pulled at my heartstrings.  The banter between Miller and Layla is witty, crackles with sexual tension, and brought a smile to face in a slow burn tug of war. Though the bumpy times went on a bit longer than I’d hoped I still found myself captivated by their pairing.  Miller became a better man throughout this story, a man worthy of forever and HEA, and I fell for him wholeheartedly.  Layla was a strong heroine too, a good match to him as she was a worthy challenger in a connection that sizzled from the very start.  Surrounding this entertaining main couple was an equally appealing cast of secondary characters who have me excited for where this series goes next! Though the romance was entertaining, it was the interactions between Miller and teammates Ralph and Manning that really made this an enjoyable read.  I loved how supportive they were of one another, how manly they were when discussing matters of the heart, and I can't wait for Manning to take center stage next in a series that I definitely recommend!

My rating for this is a B+

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.
