MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
From the moment I picked up this book, I felt conflicted. Second chance romances are amongst my favorites and in that respect it was a success as this couple had a sizzling connection built on a foundation of painful pasts and a history that was built from a young age. I became quickly consumed with their journey, a journey full of angst, lies, and regrets that had me rooting for them every step of the way. Giving readers glimpses of their past together, while addressing the push/pull of their reconnection, put me through the emotional wringer right alongside them. Add in unexpected twists and turns and you end up with a romance that exhausted me at times...but in a good way. This couple had to work for their HEA, nothing was ever guaranteed despite all of Julian's wealth and determination. Theirs was a hard-fought journey every step of the way, a journey that was richly rewarding and well-crafted by Ms. Robinson.
When it came to the hero himself though, that's where I wanted to scream at times as he showed himself to be a sexy beast one moment and a jerk the next. Julian's early years were full of instability until he came to live with Autumn's family. The moment he met her he wanted her, though he knew it was wrong and it ultimately led to him breaking her heart. The years since have made him a wealthy man, an arrogant and self-assured man used to getting everything he wants. That arrogance makes him unlikable early on and in need of a personality makeover for the sake of his company. Just his luck that the one person who can help him is the girl he hurt years ago and who he desperately wants back in his life. Being around her brings out a much more appealing side thankfully, an open and honest side that's refreshing in a hero. With each turn of the page it's clear he's not a perfect hero, but rather he's a man with flaws and imperfections who's finally going after what he's always wanted. Autumn was young and naive when Julian first came into her life, a young girl who quickly lost her heart to the boy clearly lost and alone. Even though it was understandable there were times I wanted to shake her for setting herself up to be hurt. Their years apart have toughened her up a bit, brought out a sassy and self-protective side that she'll need in her dealings with the adult Julian. She's a formidable match for him now in this rollercoaster romance of second chances and the emotional ups and downs of getting to start over. With its enticing conclusion readers will be left wondering what happens next!
