Review for Night Sighs by Emma Meade

It's good to be alive...when you're dead!

Meet Alex & Tristan, modern star-crossed lovers of the supernatural variety.

Alex is running-on-empty, one year on from the death of her fiancé, and the only thing that keeps her going is her romance with the young vampire Tristan. Tristan, meanwhile has a serious obsession with Bruce Springsteen, and is battling a 'can't live without you' sort of love for Alex. He's trying to persuade her to come over to the dark side but so far she's resisting his efforts.

So come and sing along to Tristan's band, The Dead Beats, the hottest group in London right now, and walk with Alex as she teeters between this life and the next. Because when you're around Tristan, you'll see, how much fun it is to be alive when you're dead....

Night Sighs is an adult paranormal romance, following the relationship & adventures of Tristan & Alex through five short stories: The Dead Beats, The Ancients, Until My Body Is Dust, Bourbon & Jazz and West of Forever.

Night Sighs by Emma Meade puts a unique spin on the roller coaster evolution of a modern day relationship.  In this collection of short stories newly widowed Alexandra meets exotic vampire rock star, Tristan, who will change her life forever.  Each story picks up at different intervals in their relationship and shows a believable evolution to their relationship that keeps it steamy and exciting.

I love rock star heroes and Tristan is incredibly appealing.  While there is a slight similarity to the Vampire Lestat, the author acknowledges this and actually jokes about it which made this story rather endearing.  Starting off, Tristan only cares for his desires but as the story progresses he matures and makes a more worthy mate to Alexandra.  After almost losing her he realizes her true value and will do anything to keep her safe...including giving up his rock star lifestyle.  Alex's always been the more mature of the two and she repeatedly proves that throughout the story as she shows some pretty kickass vampire slayer moves when necessary.  She's able to keep her emotions better under control and I found her character remained the same throughout the story, strong-willed from start to finish.

Ms. Meade packed quite a bit into this series of short stories.  While we don't dig too deeply into the character's lives there's just enough to make us care about them and their outcome.  The sexual interludes are sexy and nicely paced throughout the collection and showed a deepening connection to their relationship.  There's some great action sequences as well that kept me turning the pages as fast as possible.  This story offers an entertaining interlude and I'm intrigued by what I read here to read more by Ms. Meade.

My rating for this is a B-

*I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
