MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
Every little girl has dreamt of an average person marrying a royal at some point during their childhood, dreamt of two very different people finding their HEA through all sorts of adversity. In this adult version Ms. Scott has crafted a charming couple who readers can’t help but root for, along with fun yet flirty banter that lit up the romance in this contemporary gem. With her lyrical talent Ms. Scott put a smile on my face one moment while putting a blush there the next.
Hutton Everest is a self-controlled man who’s good at making money for the family business. He’s also always been seen as a ladies man, quick to flirt and quick to go after what he wants. He’s slowly starting to want something more though and is starting to make choices that aren’t quite the kind he’s made in the past. His attraction to the quietly confident Ally in a sea of sex kittens is the first sign of his choosing substance over style in his life and it leads to unexpected romance and a future neither of them pictured. As a casual relationship becomes more, Hutton must step up to the plate in an attempt to bring two very different worlds together. Throughout his time with Ally you see an internal battle being waged between desires and duty that will sometimes frustrate readers but will also pull at their heartstrings as this near-perfect hero charms his way into the heroine’s heart as well as ours. Hutton ends up being a drool-worthy hero, supportive, with a kind heart, and strong protective instincts. He’ll need all those qualities and more if he hopes to win the woman of his dreams a second time.
Ally Edwards is a wild child whose life has made the front page a time or two...at least outside the US borders. Carrying the weight of her country on her shoulders has led to a lot of acting out over the years, acting out that Ally knows needs to end, but it can end after she spends a few weeks in the sweet and sexy Hutton’s arms. She may start out wanting to sow her final oats one last time but it quickly becomes clear that she can share something more with Hutton if she can just figure out the right balance. When her obligations can no longer be ignored Ally will be left trying to reconcile what’s best for her as well as for her country in a romance that ultimately warmed my heart. Ally’s an appealing heroine who simply wants to live a normal life, but is bred to do more. All those awkward growing up moments were watched by everyone and it’s made her a bit introspective and cautious as an adult. That doesn’t mean she’s not willing to experience life though as she’s more than happy to embrace each new experience...especially with Hutton. Together, they have to traverse a road of duty and desire where Ally will need all the support she can get. Hutton meanwhile shows his love through his wholehearted support of her to make this a sweet and sensual read where he’s content letting Ally be in the spotlight.
This was a charming tale from the first page to the last with a crackling main couple whose future is full of twists and turns as obligation war with one woman’s desires. The banter between Hutton and Ally is fun yet flirty, teeming with sensuality in and out of the bedroom. Their emotional connection never wavers though, despite all their internal doubts and obstacles from outsiders, they continue down a rocky road to HEA. Alongside this main couple are Hutton’s endearing brother Ethan and friend Gear, whose playful banter made me smile and has me longing to learn more about Gear. In contrast, those in Ally’s inner circle made me doubt their intentions. Too many wanted her to go down a certain path because of their own desires while others just seemed catty. Even with her own parents there was never a feeling of doing what was best for Ally, which is why the protective Hutton was so needed in her life. Readers looking for a decadently delightful modern spin on a classic story will definitely want to add this entertaining tale to your bookshelf!
