Book Release Blast for Dear Heart, I Hate You by Eliah Greenwood (REVIEW)…..

A job house sitting leads to lots of flirty banter and tons of sexual tension as an emotionally bruised basketball player ends up at war with his new roommate.  Keep reading to get a tempting taste of Dear Heart, I Hate You by Eliah Greenwood, along with getting my impressions of this angsty second installment in the Easton High series, which will have you wanting to add it to your bookshelf!

It all started with an ad.
"House sitter needed for the summer, room and board provided.”
Guess I missed the part about the cocky basketball player sleeping down the hall...
Finn Richards is hot, cruel, broken beyond repair. Oh, and did I mention hell-bent on making me quit?
Whatever. It's not like his charms work on me. I’m immune to his deep hazel eyes, and I'm not even a little bit curious about what happened that night...
It’s just two months.
I can definitely go two months without ripping his head off.
Only problem is,
I’m not sure the same goes for his clothes.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Told in dual POVs, this angsty tale of enemies to lovers captivated me from the first page to the last courtesy of a broken and bruised hero and the strong-willed woman who looks beyond his antagonistic exterior in an effort to help him move on from his painful past.  Having just finished reading it I'm left an emotional mess after a gut wrenching cliffhanger that has me waiting with bated breath to see it resolved.  Until that unexpected cliffhanger, Ms. Greenwood had pulled every one of my emotional strings, making me fall for a hero who was clearly hurting but who relished hurting others first.  Pairing him with a sassy and kind hearted heroine was just what he needed to heal and together they undertook a flirty journey to romance full of heartbreaking moments as well as steamy encounters.  By the turn of the final page I had become fully invested in Finn and Dia, rooting for them every step of the way, and am now left feeling emotionally bruised while I wait to see where their journey takes them next.

When readers first meet Finn Richards they see an angry young man, hiding the pain of a childhood trauma behind a crude and uncaring exterior.  He's a bit hard to like early on as he lashes out quickly and cleanly, wounding others before they have a chance to make him feel...something...anything.  He's a disappointment to his father, a man who shows more pride in Finn's friend than in Finn himself, which has Finn doing all he can to earn that disappointment.  In the past, he's always been able to put people in their place, but the moment he meets Diamond he knows he's met his match and together they scorch up the pages while unleashing all sorts of emotions.  With each turn of the page we get more and more insight into this broken young man, finding him endearing while wanting to hug all his pain away.  He's a flawed hero for sure, but he's one who I fell for completely and who I look forward to seeing more of in the conclusion of this story.

Diamond Mitchell has her own painful past as a child of the foster care system before being adopted as a baby by a gay couple.  She never knew her mother and had to deal with bullying growing up as a multiethnic young woman with two dads.  She never let the hurtful words break her though and it's made her the kind of heroine you can't help but admire. When readers first meet her they see a strong-willed young woman, someone with a kind and caring heart who's more than capable of giving as good as she gets.  The more Finn tries to push her away the more determined she is to help him realize his self-worth, helping him put his heart on the line to be with her in a romance that pushed every single one of my emotional buttons.

This was a captivating romance that flew by in the blink of an eye courtesy of an unforgettable main couple and their flirty banter teeming with sexual tension.  Verbal foreplay, alongside longing glances, kept me glued to their romance while I waited impatiently for them to finally give into the more than obvious connection brewing between them.  Along with this memorable main couple was an equally entertaining cast of secondary characters, characters with personal issues of their own that added an even more intense level of emotions.  From Dia's adopted brother Jesse, to Finn's friends Theo and Xavier, to Finn's lovable dog Lexie, this was a story that pulled me in and hasn't let go of me yet as I wait with an entire box of tissues for the conclusion of this story to hit bookshelves!

My rating for this is an A.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Ms. McLean knows how to play with emotions, she's shown that with her previous books and shows it here once again.  When two very different characters meet the sparks fly in a tale that pulls at the heartstrings in a powerful romance that's not easily defined.  Just when you think everything is going in an expected direction, the author once again pulls the rug out from underneath you, leaving you screaming and counting down the days until this duet concludes.

Introduced to readers in Ms. McLean's book Leo, Holden is a character that has always been in my thoughts, a character I absolutely adored for his big heart and tell it like it is attitude.  While he gives the impression of not having a care in the world, the truth is vastly different as he's carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders, a weight related to his upcoming graduation and the expectations surrounding that.  The moment he meets the quirky Jameson is a life-altering moment for him as she's had a tough life, a life vastly different from his, and throughout their time together he comes to appreciate what he has while helping her find moments of love and joy.

Jameson Taylor's a complex character, a puzzle that's slowly revealed throughout her time with Holden.  She's the kind of character you're not soon to forget as she's a young woman with a strength that she doesn't even see as she deals with a difficult life.  She's the quirky new girl in town, one who wears granny clothes and expresses herself through constantly drawing.  As her past becomes clearer, readers will be left raging at all those who hurt her in the past, leaving her with insecurities that sees Holden coming to rescue her from in his all too endearing way.  Their time together was charming and warmed my heart.  Seeing Holden fall for the girl most unlikely had him looking past the surface to the substance beneath in a connection full of heart and soul.  Through every smile and every tear Jameson's a uniquely wonderful heroine, an imperfect one too, but with Holden by her side they're a perfectly imperfect couple that had me rooting for them every step of the way.

This was a powerful read, an emotionally intense tale that kept me on an emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish.  These two opposites couldn't have been any more perfect for each other, and just when I thought we were close to HEA, Ms. McLean left us with one heckuva cliffhanger ending.  It's an ending that left me gutted but counting down the days until the conclusion of this duet lands on bookshelves!

My rating for this is an A!

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

This was a tough read from the very first page, an angsty read full of poor decisions, misunderstandings, and all the usual difficulties of growing up.  What added even further to the angst of this story was Connor's open homosexuality, the hiding of other's sexuality, and all the heartbreaking decisions made that frustrated me one moment while pulling at my heartstrings the next.  And just when you think you know where things are going Ms. Lowe pulls no punches in her jaw on the floor cliffhanger ending.

Connor Siddell is in fact a good boy, someone with a kind and protective heart.  He's new in town after living through tragic events, trying to start over while living openly as a gay young man.  He luckily discovers someone to help ease his heart and soul on a dating app which leads to lots of romantic drama.  The one dark spot is Cavanaugh McLaughlin, fellow classmate who shows a lot of anger and hatred towards.  Though Connor doesn't understand what fuels Cav's rage, it definitely complicates things from the very start and ends up being just one piece to the cliffhanger ending.  Cav's a complicated character, one I didn't really care for at the start.  He's a Senator's son whose life is decided for him.  He's a popular bad boy with the tattoos to prove it while he commits deeds of bullying that made him occasionally unlikable.  There's a lot of pain hiding behind his hurtful behavior though, lots of stories about him, about his friends, and it all leads to inner conflicts about what he wants his life to be and who he wants to admit to being.  Things take a big turn for him once Connor discovers the truth about Cav and the attraction Cav feels for him.  It's a sizzling connection between them but one that doesn't go smoothly as Cav fights the truth of his feelings in a journey that broke my heart.

Cav and Con are a compelling main couple whose connection is put through the wringer in a tale that pulled at my heartstrings.  There was never a guaranteed HEA for these two as there was a lot of push/pull between them which left me on edge the entire time I saw them together.  Surrounding this larger than life main couple was a cast of intriguing secondary characters like Jase, Connor's brother who was loyal and loving, someone who becomes a surprisingly strong support to Cav as the story progresses. Cav's friend Thomas was someone who left me enraged as his supposed friendship often saw him being manipulative and hurtful while constantly getting between him and Connor.  His actions scared me and his presence ultimately fueled the painfully jaw-dropping ending.  I'm now left waiting for a resolution to that tragic cliffhanger, waiting in breathless anticipation to a powerful tale that packs an emotional wallop!

My rating for this is a B-

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As a fan of MC-fueled romances I was immediately drawn to this book and its journey of opposites attracting against a backdrop of suspense and intense emotions.  Though I haven't read the previous books in the Arrow's Edge series, I had no problem getting pulled into the action of this story and look forward to going back to read all about the couples who came before (including early glimpses of these two).

From the moment Tse and Sophia meet the fireworks flare, particularly as one of his brothers is attracted to her too.  Though Tse wants Sophia he's tried to keep his distance over the last few months as he doesn't feel worthy of her and doesn't want to cause issues with a fellow brother, but with the possibility of his brother claiming her he decides to step up to the plate in a relationship full of sexual tension and push/pull moments as fate threw all sorts of danger their way.  With each turn of the page Tse shows himself to be a delicious hero!  He's definitely a player when readers first meet him, happy to keep his connections to women superficial, but once he sees Sophia his heart and mind is hers.  He's a man bruised by his past, a past that brought tears to my eyes for all that he endured and for the scars it's left on him as it once again rears its ugly head in this story's pulse-pounding conclusion.  Despite his heartbreaking past Tse is an endearing man, one who's very protective of but who listens to Sophia to give her the control that her ex took from her.  He has strong alpha tendencies too but is happy to stand by Sophia's side as they deal with all the danger coming their way.  On a whole Tse's a sexy and drool-worthy hero, one who touched my heart and soul while putting a blush to my cheeks!

Sophia's a wonderful heroine from the very first moment readers meet her.  She too has a painful past of her own that she just recently got away from courtesy of an abusive and controlling ex.  She's ready to start over, ready to retake control over her life by moving to a new city and starting a new job.  Leery early on of jumping back into a relationship, Sophia at first tries to keep her attraction to Tse to herself.  It's not long though before they find themselves in a relationship full of unconditional support amidst danger from villains and the town's growing drug trade.  Sophia is the kind of heroine you can't help but like.  She's smart, strong-willed, caring, and sees the goodness of Tse behind the grit and the tats.  Theirs is a relationship of balance where they each listen to and value the other in an unconditional connection and I became even more invested in their burgeoning romance with each turn of the page!

By The End, Ms. Barker has crafted an epic and steamy romance of two very different people who end up being perfectly imperfect together.  There's strong support between the two, a constant give and take that warmed my heart, and strengthened their connection.  Add in some scorching interludes and readers will find a romance worth cheering for.  Along with a captivating romance is an exhilarating bit of suspense that created some unexpected twists and turns.  The author threw in some compelling red herrings too, moments of danger and grit, in a mystery that kept me guessing until the very end!  Along with this likable main couple, and the thrilling suspense around them, was a cast of equally appealing secondary characters who I found utterly delightful.  The first character is Ravi, a troubled young man with a painful past who Tse takes under his wing, and through their time together each is made stronger.  Van Gogh the dog is another wonderful character, one who utterly charmed me throughout his interactions with others in the club.  Sophia's mother was another highlight.  Her parents might have been unconventional when it came to her upbringing, but her mother's humor brought a much-needed respite from all the danger and suspense in the story.  I also thoroughly enjoyed the glimpses we got of past couples and the other brothers in the club, these characters were larger than life with a mission to do good that endeared all of them to me.  Fans of MC romances will want to experience the Arrow's Edge MC series for themselves as it's an exhilarating thrill ride full of heart and soul that captivated me from the first page to the last!

My rating for this book is an A.

Piper
Most people don’t think about the day they’ll die. They coast through life, blissfully unaware of how their time is ticking away. I wasn’t like most people. I welcomed death, wanted her to take me away from the prison I called life, but she refused. I tried twice only to survive. And then, when I thought I had nothing left it came.
A reason to live.
Rex was a small, unexpected ray of light my world of darkness that blossomed into a beam of sunshine. I thought, maybe this was why Death didn’t take me. Maybe she knew that if I held on a little longer things would turn around. But the third time Death came to my door wasn’t by choice. Someone else brought her, and I fear this time she might take me.
Rex
Being the son of a country star sucks. My parents are never around, I move every year or so, and I have no real friends. Everyone around me has an agenda. Everyone except Piper Lovelace. I can’t get that girl to notice me. Trust me I’ve tried.
Thankfully, fate stepped in and gave me the break I needed. I’ve got her attention, now I need her to give me a chance.

Things are hot and getting hotter...Escape into this delicious shifter romance from bestselling author MaryJanice Davidson.
Oz Adway is a rare breed: an accountant who wants to get dirty. He’s a wolf shifter working for the Interspecies Placement Agency so it’s not long before he gets the opportunity to break out of his boring, safe office job.
He volunteers to find runaway bear cub Sally Smalls, recently orphaned by a plane crash. Piece of cake, right? Unfortunately, Sally’s taken refuge with “ordinary” human Lila Kai. Lila has no idea what’s going on, but she’ll destroy anyone who tries to take the cub. Oz is not about to let a human jeopardize his daring career move, no matter how attractive he finds her.
Lila knows something’s different about the sexy weirdo who keeps popping up in the wrong place at the right time. She’s determined to figure out what, regardless of the escalating threats to her safety and Oz’s distracting hotness. She didn’t move into a cursed house and take in a werebear just to run when things get complicated. Together, Oz and Lila will prevail! But only if they can keep their hands off each other...

EXCERPT:

She was just getting the hang of the ambulance when she hit the wolf.
The thing was bulky and difficult to control (the ambulance, not the wolf), and whenever she got it back from its semiannual mechanically induced coma, it took her a few minutes to get the hang of driving it again.
She stood on the brakes (oh shit oh shit oh shit) and braced for the double-thump of the tires running over the animal, which didn’t come.
Lila Kai collapsed back into her seat, her heart pounding so hard she could taste metal. She pulled over to the side of the street. A street, not a country road on the way from nowhere to somewhere. This was Lilydale, not Hastings. And even Hastings didn’t have wolves in their streets. Just deer. So what the hell?
She put the ambulance in Park, kept the engine running, and hopped down. She checked the headlights—nothing. The side of the road—nothing. She even took a tentative couple of steps into the brown brush lining the ditch (don’t think about the zillions of horror movies that start like this)—nothing. No wolf, limping or otherwise. Or...coyote, maybe?
Which made sense, now that she thought about it. Because whatever it was, it hadn’t been just huge, it had been fast, too. It had come out of nowhere and to nowhere it returned, all in the space of half a second. Maybe she just clipped it.
Is that a metaphor for something? Life? Death? Taxes? Transitions? Romance?
Mmmm...probably not the latter. There was just no way to twist clipping a random wolf into an allegory about her nonexistent dating life. The fact that she’d given even half a second of thought to that was proof that she needed to lay off the Cosmos (the drink and the magazine).
She went back to her decommissioned ambulance, rebuckled her seat belt, put it in Drive, checked her rearview, ignored the urge to ponder more metaphors-that-weren’t, then pulled out, and headed back toward her rental house. The adrenaline rush had been unwelcome as always, but—
“God damn it!”
Two kids had darted out from nowhere (what the hell is up with this street?) and were flagging her down, waving their little arms around so fast they looked like little bony windmills in a gale.
This time, at least, she didn’t have to stand on the brakes, and once she had stopped, she rolled down
her window. “What’s going on, li’l weirdos?”
Both children were gesturing frantically. “C’mere, you have to help, she’s hurt!”
And more than a few horror movies start like this, too.
Again with park, unbuckling, opening door, climbing out. The boy and girl who had jumped in front of
her looked like they were about eight, dressed in the de rigeur kid gear of jeans and sweatshirts and battered sneakers. They had the corn-fed reddish-blond looks of many Minnesotans. “Who’s hurt?”
“I dunno, she just is, we found her, come on. Bring your ambulance gear!”
“It’s not an ambulance.”
“’Course it’s an ambulance!”
“No, I mean it’s decommissioned, so it’s not really an amb—”
Tiring of her explanation, the girl seized Lila’s hand and started hauling her up the street. Lila looked behind her, half expecting to see the wolf creeping up on them and felt a little let down to see the way was clear. Which was insane. Strange enough to see such a creature under any circumstances, never mind smack in the middle of town. But she wanted to see it again; how was that for nuts? I probably need a nap.
The girl hauled on her hand again and hooked left.
“Jeez, kid. Do you work out?” and then led her down a short alley, to where a small huddled form was curled into a blanket.
“See?” the girl asked, clamping down hard on Lila’s fingers in her excitement.
“Yeah, see?” the boy, presumably her brother, added. “She’s right there!”
“Isn’t this a school night?” But she bent over the small figure, blinked as her brain tried to process the image, gently touched it on the shoulder, then pinched her own leg (Nope. Not dreaming.) and looked up at the kids.
“All right, first, that’s not a kid, it’s a bear cub for some reason. Second, I’m not a vet. Most important, I’m not an EMT, either.”
Instead of answering, the girl whacked the boy on the arm and hissed something that sounded like, “Unstable!”
“My high school guidance counselor would agree.” Lila bent back over the curled up mass of black, fluffy, whimpering fur that cowered away from her and glared with dark eyes. “I’m not sure what it is you think I can do.” She looked back up only to see the children’s expressions had transformed; they were actually edging away from her. “Why are you doing that? You guys lured me here. If anyone should be uneasy, it’s me. Shouldn’t you have picked my pocket by now?” She looked around the utterly deserted alley. For the first time, she realized she couldn’t hear anything: no bugs, no birds, nothing. And not much light from the lone streetlight. Downright creepy.
She checked the mouth of the alley for the wolf and was again disappointed to see nothing.
“You’re right, sorry,” the boy said.
“Yeah, sorrywebotheredyougoodbyenow.”
Lila sighed. She was in it the minute she’d stepped down from the vehicle that wasn’t an ambulance.
“God damn it. Okay, so, just because I can’t help doesn’t mean someone else can’t.” She stood, only to see the children take several steps back. “Maybe call animal control?” She had to, she realized. You couldn’t just leave a random bear cub in a random alley after random kids flagged down a random adult.
But in the time it took her to fish out her phone and begin looking up Lilydale Animal Control—or would that be Saint Paul?—the children had (cue the dramatic music) vanished. Like the wolf, her patience, and her faith in the good people at Apartment Guide.
“Nice quiet neighborhood,” she muttered to the Realtor who wasn’t there. “Lots of families. It’s in the middle of a national park. Bargain.”
She’d been a Lilydale resident for fewer than eighteen hours and had no idea who to call. And after a day of unpacking, she was standing in an alley at 8:00 p.m. After hitting a wolf. The one thing she did know: she—they—couldn’t stay there indefinitely.
“You’d tell me if you were a metaphor, right, teeny tiny bear cub?”
She scooped it up, surprised by how light it was, given that it was the size of a small golden retriever (it must be mostly fur, the way birds are mostly feathers) then checked for the wolf one more time, and headed back to her nonbulance.

On the day that 16-year-old Winter Starling had her life and dreams shattered by a sexual assault, she meets Kai, a boy from her high school obsessed with music. They develop a deep friendship, which comes to an abrupt end when Kai unexpectedly has to leave. Winter has no idea why he went or any way to contact him.
Ten years pass, and Winter has constructed a new reality for herself. Now living in Melbourne, she has a successful career in advertising and is engaged to Liam King, a star player in Australian Rules Football. Winter has a perfect life.
During a night out, Winter runs into Kai, now the lead singer of ‘The Stonevilles.’ Winter and Kai rekindle their friendship, and to everyone around them, their attraction is evident. With Kai back in her life, Winter’s past threatens to ruin her relationship with Liam and everything she has worked to achieve. But can she risk losing Kai a second time?

EXCERPT:

I grabbed Liam's fingers with one hand and linked the pinkies on the other with Maddie. Liam signalled to Adam, who was still chatting up the two women. He headed towards us straight away. Liam took the lead, weaving in and out of the sea of people, earning the odd glare in the process, and we trailed in his wake. Eventually, we reached a central position close to the stage. The energy in the club increased as the crowd became restless. Liam pulled me to him, pressed his body against my back, and tickled my ear with his tongue. His Armani cologne enveloped me in a familiar bubble.
“Stop it!” I playfully elbowed him in the ribs. I glanced at the others. Adam was already ogling a female standing in front of him. When he gyrated his hips in her direction, perfecting his timing to the background music beat, I pointed out his behaviour to Liam. He merely laughed and pinched my bum. I spied some movement near the drum kit, and soon after, the heavy strum of a single guitar chord cut the air. The crowd surged forward, pushing us even closer towards the stage. Five men were now visible but only in silhouette. Then the stage lit up, and The Stonevillescommenced their first song of the night.
I checked out the band members. A different style of a geometric white mask partly covered each of their faces, although they all wore black T-shirts and dark denim jeans. The effect was sexy in a futuristic way. My gaze locked on the lead singer. The mask wrapped around his eyes but left the rest of his face uncovered. Piercing, arctic blue eyes, like those I'd seen only once before in my life, stared straight into mine. I recoiled as if I'd been punched in the stomach. Air escaped my lungs, and my heart pounded against my chest. The music's intensity, the flashing lights, and the energy exuding from the fans faded into the background.
I was hallucinating. Or drunk. Or both. My parched mouth, at odds with my hot, clammy body, needed moisture. I licked my lips. The man on stage looked like Kai. The same dark chocolate coloured hair, although messier and longer than I remembered; the familiar strong nose; and the square jawline, prominent under a smattering of stubble. The similarity between this man's voice and Kai's was uncanny. I'd listened to this band non-stop, but the likeness had never struck me before.
Memories of Kai flooded into my conscious mind. I fixed on an image of us sitting in a poorly built shelter in the bush behind our high school. We had shared a joint, and Kai was performing an Oasis cover. As I listened, I scoffed the oranges we'd stolen from a nearby orchard. I remembered thinking how peaceful he looked when he played music and the sharp stab of jealousy that had followed.
I fought my way from this ten-year-old memory back into the present. The past was not a place I wanted to be. A giant imaginary brush dipped in black paint erased the image; it was a self-made suppression technique I'd developed for situations like this.
The man on stage broke eye contact but only for a moment. When he looked back at me, his eyes widened, and his mouth fell open. Had he recognised me? I looked around, from his position that didn't seem likely. I breathed a sigh.
The intro to their hit song filled the club. The crowd surged, pushing me forward. I stumbled and fell onto the girl in front of me. Strong arms lifted me back up, and I looked towards the stage. The singer’s eyes were darting about as if searching the crowd. They stopped on me. I smiled, and my heart tumbled when he grinned back. The same slightly crooked smile Kai owned. Unexpected heat filled my veins.
“Are you okay, babe?” Liam yelled into my ear.
I nodded and kissed him before returning my attention to the Kai lookalike. The singer's smile now looked like more of a scowl—time to get another drink.
