Review for Elora's Match by Liia Ann White

Elora's parents mysteriously disappeared when she was fifteen. She vowed to find answers -- discover what really happened to them. But after twenty-five years of traveling the world she has come up empty handed. Feeling tired and lonely, she settles down in the city her best friend, Caleb, calls home. To lead a regular human existence for a while; like he does.

One problem; they're not human. They're Different -- a rare supernatural race known for their beauty, strength and supernatural abilities.

Elora is led to a man by a series of visions. Cue Kadin; powerful, sexy and also Different. He is her match -- her soul-mate. Her life has never felt so complete.

But it's not all good news. Elora must now deal with a rogue demon Elder hell-bent on taking over Lucifer's reign over Hell. To succeed she needs to steal Elora's power. When she's facing the fight of her life, can Elora really trust Kadin?

**************************

Elora's been on the run since the night her parents were killed looking for the ones responsible for the deed.  She left behind her best, and only friend, Caleb but is now back in town looking to rest.  But for her and Caleb, individuals known as the Different, life is never fully restful.  Elora has extraordinary physical and psychic abilities which have set her apart from humans.  She's not comfortable around humans and considers them inferior.  The only purpose they serve in her mind is for physical release.  Caleb doesn't feel the same and has a human girlfriend and other human friends that he tries to make Elora interact with.  Whereas Elora has embraced her differences, Caleb has suppressed them which causes him to be weaker.  But once threats to Elora arise Caleb realizes he must accept his differences to help protect her.

Someone else wants to protect Elora too and that's rich and mysterious Kadin.  He's one of the Different as well and is extremely powerful in his own right.  He's been dreaming about Elora and once they meet the sparks literally fly.  Turns out that Fate has chosen them as mates which doesn't often happen amongst their kind and together their combined powers could change the world.  Kadin is extremely sexy and he and Elora are combustible together.  He makes her feel things she's never felt before and finally she's forced into relying on someone else which she's never wanted to do.  Kadin is the perfect match because he appreciates her strengths and even though he wants to protect her he lets her stand on her own two feet.

Elora starts off being very standoffish and her feelings of superiority made it hard to warm up to her character.  I enjoyed her sarcasm but didn't like how she treated others.  Through her interactions with Caleb and his girlfriend Layke especially, a different side started to emerge and I became more invested in what was happening to her.  I enjoyed seeing this emotional side to her and look forward to her continuing interactions with humanity.  I also look forward to seeing more of Caleb and Layke and where their relationship will go now that Layke has learned about the world of the Different.

The villains in this story were many and varied.  It made for many exciting fight scenes and kept you on the edge of your seat for when the next attack would come.  The end of the story is not the end of the danger for Elora as a vengeful creature escapes to come back another day and I'm on pins and needles as to what the payback will be.

Elora's Match is an intriguing start to an action-packed, yet romantic, paranormal series.  With a kick ass heroine and a to die for hero who's more than worthy of his mate, this story goes at a fast pace and doesn't slow down until the end.  Luckily for us there's more to come and I'm counting down the days until I can revisit this intriguing paranormal world.

My rating for this is an A.

*I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
