Book Tour for Dark Future by KC Klein (Interview & GIVEAWAY)

Before we get to my interview with KC and the great giveaway associated with her visit, I want to thank Goddess Fish Promotions for letting me be a part of this tour.  Thanks also goes to KC Klein for taking time out of her busy schedule to stop here, so please make her feel welcome.  And now to my conversation with KC.....

First, I want to thank Words of Wisdom from the Scarf Princess for having me today. It’s not every day that I get invited to talk about my passion. Readers, thanks so much for stopping by. I would love to know what you’re reading. Let me know in the comments, and one reader will win a free copy of my e-book, DARK FUTURE.

TSP:  What got you where you are today with regards to your writing career?

KCK:  A lot of hard work and pushing myself to make my own opportunities. And of course, a fabulous support team.

TSP:  Your first published work, Dark Future, is in the sci-fi genre.  Have you always enjoyed the genre and what led you to the storyline?

KCK:  I’ve always been captivated by worlds where the infrastructures have failed, and where regular men and women have been called on to do extraordinary things. That being said, I grew up with two brothers and cut my teeth on movies like Star Wars, Terminator, and Aliens.

TSP:  What was your reaction when you found out your manuscript got accepted, did you celebrate in any particular way?

KCK:  I was at work when I read the email from my agent. I honestly think for a moment I panicked. The first thing I did was call my crit partner to ask her what I should do…I think the answer was pretty obvious.

TSP:  What is it about Kris Davenport and ConRad Smith that makes them an interesting match?  Is ConRad the stereotypical hero and Kris the stereotypical heroine?

KCK:  When ConRad popped into my head over nine years ago, paranormal romance was not where it is today. I was looking for a strong, gritty hero who had tough decisions to make. I loved the idea of a place where women were a rare commodity. (So many men, too little women…sigh.) Of course, Kris had to be ConRad’s total opposite—a little pampered, a little self-indulgent. They were a really fun couple to bring together.

TSP:  What do you have planned for your writing future?

KCK:  I am excited about a sci-fi romance anthology that I am writing with two other authors, Jessa Slade and Erin Kellison. My story will be based in the world of DARK FUTURE, but with totally different characters. Of course, I would love to write a sequel to DARK FUTURE, the characters are already driving me crazy.

TSP:  What's a typical day like for you?

KCK:  On my writing days, I try to wake up around 5:30 a.m. and go running with my neighbor. After that, it is getting the kids off to school, maybe another short workout, and then my butt is behind the computer until the kids get home from school.

TSP:  How has the digital revolution affected your career and how you market yourself?

KCK:  I think the digital revolution has really opened things up for authors. Now writers have the opportunity to indi-publish and be in more control of their careers. As far as marketing, authors now have the opportunity to communicate and interact with readers like never before—hear what they like to read and what they want more of. Twitter and Facebook are great tools, but they can also be distracting.

TSP:  Do you find time to read for pleasure?  If so, what are some recent releases you've enjoyed and are there any classics you re-read when you need a cheering up?

KCK:  My time is really tight, but curling up with a good book before I go to sleep is my favorite way to relax. What I am making my way through right now is the Game of Thrones series, and I just downloaded the entire trilogy of Hunger Games. I am heading on vacation next week, so I am hoping to spend some quality time with my Kindle.

TSP:  My blog is all about favorite things.  So what are your favorite things, the things you can't live without?

KCK:  My favorite things are things I can have every day. I am not very good with self-deprivation. I love coffee with my special creamer in the morning, herbal tea at night, a little dark chocolate after every meal, a glass of red wine with friends. Of course, I cherish the days when the house is clean, the writing is good, and the children are happy. But even when none of those things happen, I try to remember that every day is a gift.

Thanks so much KC for the great answers!  As to the question you asked us, I'm reading Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson.  It's an intriguing sci-fi story about technology revolting against humans in a very bloody way.  It will be out in movie format thanks to Steven Spielberg in 2013.

Awakened in the middle of the night by a future version of herself, Kris Davenport is given a mission: go forward in time to save the world—and His life. Of course, her future self doesn't tell her who he is, just sends her off a cliff and straight into an alien invasion.

He turns out to be ConRad Smith, the callous, untrusting Commander of Earth’s army and the world’s last defense. There’s only one way to know for sure if this strange woman is an alien spy—slice her throat. Except, he didn’t anticipate the heat he would feel as he interrogates the hot-tempered, warm-blooded woman. For a man whose sole focus has been survival, she's more temptation than he can handle. But a world on the brink of destruction leaves no room for love…and time is running out.

KC Klein is the author of Dark Future, a sexy futuristic time-travel. She became serious about writing three years ago and was as surprised as anyone when her stories took a turn toward dark and snarky. Today, she divides her time between taking care of her family and driving in circles around Arizona, too busy creating stories in her head to pay attention to mere road signs.
