I’m his entertainment. His toy. Payment on a debt.
I tell myself I hate him, but every time he walks into the room, my body betrays me. How can I want him and fear him in the same moment?
They told me he’d mess with my head. Make it go to war with my body.
But I didn’t realize it would be complete anarchy.
I should’ve known better. When Mount’s involved, there are no rules.
I will not surrender. I will not show weakness. I’ll stand my ground and make it out of this bargain with my heart and soul intact.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
Picking up immediately after the jaw-dropping conclusion of Ruthless King, readers find themselves breathless as we go from one dramatic event after another to start off this second installment in the Mount trilogy with a bang. With this novella readers get deeper insight into the man behind the image as Lachlan Mount’s stony facade starts to crack the closer he gets to Keira Kilgore. Keira’s still the strong-willed heroine we first met but her time with Mount is affecting her too as her hate and anger over his controlling personality starts becoming more romantic, especially after a surprise trip abroad. Together they’re an unforgettable couple whose battle of wills is full of decadent delights with banter that amounted to foreplay that scorched the pages and left me longing for more.
The previous installment kept the reputation of Mount intact as his quiet and commanding nature was on full display. This time around we get an even more bloody display of his power, but readers also get a glimpse of the lonely boy hiding behind the mask. Though he longs to claim Keira’s heart he’s afraid she’ll make him weak, afraid his feelings for her will have his enemies hurting her to get to him. An opportunity to take a break from being Mount though gives him the chance to be more carefree, to show Keira the man he wants to be for her and it was a charming and drool-worthy sight to see. His attempts to woo her (courtesy of the words of wisdom of a character from another of Ms. March’s series) won me over completely and I thoroughly enjoyed the dichotomy and was sad to see them return home where he had to live up to his persona once again.
Keira grows closer to Mount in this story as she becomes addicted to the feelings he inspires in her. His controlling nature gives her permission to embrace all her naughty thoughts and empowers her both in and out of the bedroom. On a trip abroad it’s Mount’s unwavering support in her that makes her finally feel like the businesswoman she purports to be as he stood aside while she took the lead. It was a turning point in their relationship that confused her but she enjoyed the change all the same as it gave her a glimpse into his heart and gave readers hope for their HEA.
From the first page to the last this was a story that kept me glued to the pages. We saw a dark and deadly side to Mount but also a kind and caring one that drew me to him even more. He and Keira have a combustible connection that led to lots of erotic play along with banter that felt more like a battle being waged that left me unsure of who to root for. Their time abroad brought out a very different side to their relationship, which I enjoyed, though it went on a bit too long. Returning home though put them right back into the middle of danger with another ending that left me screeching in disbelief and cursing out the wait until the next installment!

AUTHOR INFO:
Meghan March has been known to wear camo face paint and tromp around in woods wearing mud-covered boots, all while sporting a perfect manicure. She's also impulsive, easily entertained, and absolutely unapologetic about the fact that she loves to read and write smut. Her past lives include slinging auto parts, selling lingerie, making custom jewelry, and practicing corporate law. Writing books about dirty talking alpha males and the strong, sassy women who bring them to their knees is by far the most fabulous job she's ever had.
