Everything inside of him is screaming that he needs to run, he needs to go, he needs to escape.
Lane Warner is used to being overshadowed and overlooked.
After all, he’s the youngest brother and the most laid back one in the family. He’s the one known for going with the flow and not making waves, even when things seem to be at their worst.
Very few things in life have had the ability to rile Lane up and get under his skin. At the top of that list is his childhood friend Brynn Fox…no…Brynn Warner. The fact that they share a last name was the one thing that has the power to light him up and spin him out of control like no other. There was no calm, cool and collected when it comes to all the reasons why Brynn had to become part of his family.
It’s slowly killing him to keep wanting what he can’t have, so Lane sees only one way to stop himself from doing something they’ll both regret…he has to leave.
Everything inside of her is calling out to find him, to follow, to bring him home.
Brynn Warner is used to being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
After all, she’s the daughter of an unrepentant gold-digger who never once blinked at being the cause of her daughter’s pain and suffering.
Very few things in her life have ever brought happiness and a sense of security. At the very top of that list is Lane Warner. She has unwaveringly loved the youngest Warner since the first minute she laid eyes on him. He was everything Brynn ever wanted and everything she knew she could never have.
Sometimes the right choice is the one that hurts the most and Brynn’s had to make a few that felt like they might be the end of her.
When Lane takes off, one thing is clear, the only choice Brynn has is to go after him.
She’s going to bring her wayward cowboy home….whatever it takes.
Escape is a standalone novel, the third book in the Getaway series, which features the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them. These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

EXCERPT:

Brynn
“Want me to follow you or meet you at the house?” I was going to have to GPS my way back. There were a lot more roads in northern California than there were in Sheridan and a lot more traffic. Everything was busy and moved so fast, driving felt like a full-contact sport on these roads. Getting back to Sutton’s place was going to take nerves of steel and white knuckles on the steering wheel now that I didn’t have a missing cowboy to distract me and occupy my mind.
Lane gave the sensible rental a once over, and then shifted his gaze to where his lifted, beast of a truck was parked. I’d seen the mud-splattered, red four-by-four from a mile away, and the familiar sight made my heart thump so loudly I couldn’t hear the blaring horns honking at me as I dared to drive the speed limit. That truck meant Lane was close by and everything would be okay once I could touch him, and talk to him. Everything would go back to normal and the home I had sacrificed for would once again be a place where I felt like nothing bad could ever touch me again.
“Follow me. We’ll eat there and grab something to take back to the house. That gives Sutton another hour to do whatever it is he’s doing with Em.” The knowing gleam in his gaze said he knew exactly what it was that his older brother was doing with Emrys. “We can drop Daye and the food off and then head back to the airport so you can ditch the rental.”
I blinked at him in surprise as I tried to follow his train of thought. “I was just going to drop it off when I flew home.” I didn’t see any reason to make an unnecessary trip to the airport. All the people coming and going was overwhelming. It was like I’d stepped off the plane into a whole new world, one that was waiting to swallow me whole and run me over.
“When were you planning on flying home?” Gentle curiosity colored his tone as he watched me carefully.
I shifted anxiously on the heels of my boots and nervously tugged on the ends of my long hair. “I don’t know. I bought a one-way ticket since I didn’t know how long I was going to have to beg and plead with you to come back to the ranch. I figured I would leave my options open in case you sent me on my way without hearing me out.” Dread that he wouldn’t even see me when I came all this way ate at my insides from the moment I stepped on the plane until his arms had wrapped securely around me in a hug that I would never forget. Being in his arms felt more like coming home than any time I’d walked through the door of the ramshackle home my mother kept on the reservation, or anytime I’d managed to h8ide away at the Warner ranch.
He cocked his head to the side and narrowed his eyes at me. “I’ve always listened to what you had to say, Brynn. Even when the words hurt.”
The “yes” that ended everything we may have been to one another. I could still feel the way that word ripped my heart to shreds and turned my future upside down.
I sighed. “Things are different now, Lane. You left.” I couldn’t keep the hint of betrayal and hurt that colored my tone hidden.
A frown pulled at the corners of his mouth as he moved away to put his boots on. He was looking at the ground, tension tight along the line of his broad shoulders when he muttered, “I know I did. I took the easy way out. I thought things would be even harder than they already were if I stayed.”
I scoffed and gave my head a shake. “Things were worse with you gone.” At least I was far worse without him there.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

Throughout these three books readers have become a part of the Warner family, felt each heartache and cheered each HEA as each brother struggled to find their soulmates.  Loyalty comes easily to these men, they’d die for each other and those they call family, but when it comes to love they were often adrift. With a cold and uncaring mother they witnessed how love can be used as a weapon, felt it with each harsh word and each absence, and doubted that they’d ever find it for themselves.  The journey to HEA has been especially complicated for the youngest Warner brother Lane and a woman who’s been an intricate part of their family since she was young.  Their close connection was clear from the very start and readers have seen their heartbreaking relationship play out every step of the way in a rollercoaster ride that came to an immensely satisfying conclusion here that will leave you cheering...but still wanting more.

Lane’s the fun and flirty youngest brother, the brother who tried to follow in his older brother’s footsteps.  He was seen as carefree and quick to make others happy, but below the surface was a young man hiding emotional pain and insecurities while wanting to be seen for himself.  He’s a kindhearted man, a protector, and it’s why he was drawn to Brynn the moment he met her.  He sensed her pain and set out to do all he could to keep her safe as they went from friends to teenage crushes to have an even more complicated relationship evolve.  Her decisions through the years hurt their connection at times and it ultimately culminated in him running away in a moment where he felt all was lost.  It proved to be a beginning though as he and Brynn were finally able to address their feelings head-on in a cross-country trip full of danger and suspense.  Lane’s a delicious hero who’s always worn his heart on his sleeve. He’s always cared for Brynn but felt that he wasn’t good enough for her despite his heartwarming words and deeds.  They come full circle in this story though as Lane and Brynn become a formidable couple, dealing with danger and protecting a young man on the run, as equals in their final journey to HEA.

Brynn’s life has been a tough one as the daughter of an uncaring and desperate woman.  Surrounded by dangerous men her mother brought into their home, who seemed bent on harming her, she was often left bruised and bleeding.  In defense of her sister she often put herself in the line of fire with no protection due to the politics of reservation life.  A particularly nefarious event had her accepting the help of the Warner family patriarch in an act that changed the relationship she had with Lane and had her seeing herself in a bad light for her desperate decision.  She’s always loved Lane, appreciated his protection and concern, but never felt worthy of him.  On the cusp of another life-altering decision she finally decides to go after what she’s always wanted though and chases after Lane to bring him home as the ranch doesn’t feel like home without him.  During their road trip back home they engage in heartfelt talks, emotional reveals, and unexpected danger that brings them even closer in solidarity in a journey that leads to their very satisfying HEA.  Brynn’s grown stronger through the years, made a place for herself among the Warner clan, and it had me cheering.  She was once willing to let fate take control, but it’s now her who’s in control and I enjoyed seeing her as Lane’s equal as they fought to protect another abused child.

This is an engaging tale full of non-stop action and danger.  The romance between Lane and Brynn is sensual and equally engaging and is nicely balanced with the danger to keep me frantically turning the pages.  It’s a romance long in the works and reaches its satisfying conclusion in this series installment with very little angst.  What fuels this story is a human trafficking ring and this couple’s attempts to protect a young boy who each of them can easily relate to. Cam’s childhood was one of abuse for his being gay and it led to decisions that brought him even more pain and brought out the protective sides of Lane and Brynn.  Readers get an in-depth look into the life of Cam and his brother in a secondary story that has me longing to see more of these two characters. Along with meeting these new characters readers are reunited with familiar ones like Cy, Sutton, Leo, Em, Webb, and Ten in a strong reminder about the importance of family.  This is a tight-knit group who drop everything when called, who support each other with no questions asked, and it’s a heartwarming part of this series.  From the first book in this series to this final one readers have become fully immersed in the ups and downs of the Warner family which had me hoping for more from the epilogue.  While there’s moments to cheer I still felt like much was left hanging...particularly for former criminal Webb.  It’s a shocking moment that came out of nowhere and leaves readers with a big cliffhanger. While it’s been a satisfying journey thus far for these characters, I hope this isn’t the last time we see them as there’s plenty stories left to tell for some of these characters and I’ll be on the edge of my seat while waiting to see where Ms. Crownover takes us next.

My rating for this is an A-
