USA Today and International bestselling author J.C. Valentine is back with the latest in her captivating, enigmatic, and rousing world of the Spartan Riders MC...
She has a secret she’s desperate to keep...
With danger looming on the horizon, former FBI agent turned bunny, Bambi Lane, isn’t taking any chances. Taking refuge in a nearby town, she builds a new and comfortable life under the radar, but when trouble comes knocking on her door, she finds that the one thing she’s worked so hard to protect is about to be exposed.
He has a desire that won’t be denied.
Curtis “Taco” Nash, the Spartan’s road captain, has always marched to the beat of his own drum, his only loyalty to that of his brothers and the club.
Only one person has ever successfully clawed their way under Curtis Nash’s skin, and when she disappeared from his life without so much as a goodbye, he wrote her off—at least, he tried to. One mention of the one who got away, and he’s consumed with desire—and anger.
He wants answers. He wants her. He’s about to get a lot more than he bargained for.
As the war between the cartel and the Spartans heats up, Taco has to decide if he’s going to protect his brothers or the new life that’s waiting for him. When everything hangs in the balance, one thing is clear: No one is safe. Will Bambi and Taco be able to come together and find the strength to take a leap of faith before time runs out?

He wanted his answers—now. Grabbing the handle, he twisted the knob and went inside.
Bambi was laying the baby down in a white, lacy bassinette beside the bed. When she looked over her shoulder at him, it was with pure malice. “I just got him to sleep. Don’t make a sound. Don’t even breathe,” she whispered.
Taco wasn’t sure what to do. He suddenly found himself out of his element. He’d been around kids before, of course. They were crawling around the compound like cockroaches every weekend, especially during the daylight hours. He always tried to steer clear of that chaos. He didn’t dislike kids, not at all. But he didn’t have an affinity for them either.
Bambi backed away slowly, as if she were trying not to detonate a grenade. She moved so slowly and carefully, Taco rolled his eyes in exasperation.
“We need to talk,” he told her.
The instant his voice hit the room, the kid started shifting around, and Bambi froze in place. Taco didn’t see what the big deal was. He stepped farther inside and took a closer look at the wiggling person.
Bambi’s arm shot out. “I told you not to make a sound.”
“What’s the big deal?”
Then the kid started squirming in earnest, little mewling sounds squeaking out here and there, gaining in frequency and momentum until it was outright fussing, verging on a full-on tantrum.
“He’s a light sleeper,” Bambi said, her voice thick with irritation as she went back to the bassinette and tried to soothe the baby with a gentle hand on his belly. It wasn’t working. The more she tried to soothe, the more it squirmed.
“I don’t think it’s working,” Taco told her helpfully. Except the look she shot him told him his input wasn’t appreciated.
That’s when the baby started crying in earnest. “Thanks a lot,” she snapped at Taco as she scooped the baby up into her arms. “Do you have any idea how long it takes me to get him down for his nap?”
“Should I?”
Her mouth opened, but whatever she was going to say, she didn’t. Instead, she stormed up to him and thrust the red-faced human at him. “Here, I need to go to the bathroom.”
Taco’s reaction was to step back several paces. “What the hell am I supposed to do with it?”
She came at him again, matching each of his steps until they were back in the living room. “You hold him. That’s what you do.” She shoved the kid at him again, forcing it against his chest, and the look in her eyes said she wasn’t going to relent until he did.
Hesitantly, Taco’s hands slowly rose and latched onto the baby’s waist. It was solid and squishy, squirmy like an earthworm, and it was very, very unhappy. “Is it supposed to look like that?”
It is a boy, and he’s just upset. He’ll calm down in a minute. He just needs to be held.”
“I’m not sure about this. Can’t you just…take him with you?” The kid was looking at him, eyes all red and watery, lips pouty as he tried get a hold of himself.
“Well get sure. I’ll only be a minute.” Bambi stalked off, and for some reason Taco was pretty sure that she was going to take her sweet time.
When she was out of sight, he looked at the kid again. Held at arm’s length, they stared at each other, one stoic while the other did that sniffle-hiccup thing. “Yeah, I feel ya, buddy. I kind of feel like crying right now too. But ya know what? It looks like we’re stuck with each other for a few, so you gotta man up. This world isn’t made for criers.”
The baby just stared at him, but he was pulling it together, his face returning to its normal peachy color, eyes the same shade of blue as his own clearing.
“Glad to see we understand each other.”

Readers will once again find themselves quickly consumed by the continuing battle between the Spartan Riders and a drug cartel that’s invaded their town and spilled their blood on more than one occasion.  Throughout the series it’s a battle that’s kept me on the edge of my seat as the Spartan’s have been betrayed by those outside the Club as well as within.  This time around that battle is balanced with glimpses into the love lives of the previous couples along with a new couple whose unexpected reunion brings new problems.

Curtis “Taco” Nash has always been the love ‘em and leave ‘em type until he met Bambi, the troublesome FBI agent.  Theirs was a clandestine relationship that caught him completely by surprise, especially when she left without a word. Her leaving hurt his ego but also his heart which is why he’s compelled to track her down.  He’s further compelled by the news that she has a baby...a baby he soon finds out is his.  He knows nothing about being a dad but he likes being part of a family that’s all his and it’s a role he embraces wholeheartedly.  With danger knocking on their door though will their HEA be over before it’s barely begun?  Taco’s immensely likable.  He’s a bit domineering, but everything he does is for those he cares about.  He’s a bit rough around the edges too but his sweet interactions with baby Beau were endearing and showed him to have a kind heart.  From start to finish Taco’s a delicious hero and his journey from playboy to father was a heartwarming one.

Bambi Lane always knew right from wrong until she found herself attracted to Taco.  It cost her her job and led to her becoming pregnant.  She never saw herself as a mom, but it’s clear she’s devoted to her baby.  Though she sometimes feels guilty for keeping Beau a secret, she just wants to keep him safe from the dangerous war the Spartans are caught up in.  The moment Taco shows up at her door she knows she can’t keep hiding which brings heartfelt truths to the surface as well as danger to her heart and her life.  Bambi’s a strong-willed heroine who’s fierce when it comes to her son’s safety.  She didn’t just accept Taco at his word, he had to prove his devotion to his new-found family.  Though I was a bit frustrated by a decision she made late in the story, it certainly rang true to the protective person her son has led her to becoming.

Overall this was a scorching and exhilarating thrillride that kept me reading at a furious pace.  Taco and Bambi were a cute couple with a bit of dirtiness to their couplings that were nicely balanced with their picture-perfect family image. Readers also got reacquainted with past couples who, for the most part, are happy.  I enjoyed these scenes as they were an intriguing dichotomy to the ongoing bloody war.  As a gritty battle closed out this book all isn’t rosey for the future.  One Spartan’s HEA has become tarnished as the woman he loves is tired of war and has left him reeling.  There’s also lots of internal strife when it comes to the drug cartel which will have big repercussions in the future.  All in all, I enjoyed this ride and look forward to the next installment as hearts and lives continue to be on the line.

My rating for this is an A-

*I got this book from the author for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Gabby Morgan isn’t looking for love. Not even a little romance. Following a rocky past that she’d just as soon forget, she’s determined to focus on the future. One that most certainly doesn’t involve the tough-as-nails, short-on-words, hot-as-hell biker…or his kid.
Blake Mahone may not be done with women, but he’s finished with relationships. Then Gabby Morgan enters the picture. She’s flawless, refined, and as his kid’s teacher, way out of his league. She acts like she hates him, but her eyes tell a different story. Before he knows it, Blake finds himself hot for teacher, and he’s more than ready to learn all her secrets. Now all he has to do is convince her to give him a shot…without getting them both killed in the process.
