Book Tour for She Can Run by Melinda Leigh (w/ a Guest Post)

This is an exciting day today with debut author Melinda Leigh here courtesy of Tribute Books.  Her book, She Can Run, is a suspenseful read with a bit of romance and to learn more about it just keep reading.

A Writer’s Life

First I’d like to thank the Scarf Princess for having me as a guest on the blog as part of the blog tour for my debut novel, SHE CAN RUN.  This has been a thrilling month!

Being an author sounds really glamorous.  The TV show Castle certainly makes it look exiting, doesn’t it?  Castle follows gorgeous homicide detective Beckett around to crime scenes and interviews. They chase bad guys together. But my day doesn’t include a “ride along” with my neighbor the town cop.  Nor does it involve lunches with the mayor or visits to murder scenes. Cocktail parties galore? Uhm, no. I’m happy to finish my daily page count in time to catch an hour of TV with the family in the evening.

Being a writer mean sitting down day after day and adding words to an ever-growing computer file. Professional writers can’t afford to wait until inspiration strikes. They have to apply butts to chairs and fingers to keyboards every day, whether or not anything brilliant appears on the screen

Writing is a discipline.

Some days the words flow like turning on a spigot.  The story writes itself. Other days, it takes enormous effort to squeeze just a few pages out, pages that I know will likely need to be rewritten the next day. But that’s the beauty of editing. I can revise crappy prose. A blank word document is useless.

Writing a book involves a lot of butt-in-chair time. You don’t see Castle doing much of this on TV.  Know why?  It isn’t very exciting to watch. Even on the most exceptional of writing days, the party is confined to my head.  But it’s anything but boring in there. When it all comes together, when I figure out those last plot twists and turns, my fingers can’t keep up with the flow of words.

Now that is exciting.

She Can Run by Melinda Leigh

Elizabeth was a young widow with two small children when she met Congressman Richard Baker. Handsome and wealthy, with a sparkling public image, Richard seemed like the perfect man to provide the security that Beth and her kids were craving. But when she uncovers a dangerous secret about her new husband, Beth realizes he will go to any lengths—even murder—to keep it. After barely escaping with her life, she and her children flee. They eventually make their way to a secluded estate in the Pennsylvania countryside, where Beth dares to hope she has found a safe place at last…

Forced into retirement by an unexpected injury, Philadelphia homicide detective Jack O’Malley is mourning the loss of his career when his uncle abruptly dies, leaving Jack to dispose of his crumbling country house. Unbeknownst to him, his uncle engaged a caretaker just before his death, a mysterious woman with two children and a beautiful face that haunts his dreams. Determined to know her, Jack begins an investigation into Beth’s past. When he uncovers the shocking truth, and a local woman is viciously murdered, Jack puts his own life on the line to keep Beth and her children safe.

  1. Joder, thanks again for hosting Melinda today.

Melinda, I love how you said that being a writer isn't as glamorous as it appears on "Castle." Instead it's a lot of blood, sweat and tears - which are usually the ingredients for anything that's worthwhile.

  2. This is great timing for this post. I'm struggling through a head-banging scene right now. I've no doubt it will frustrate the pants off me for a few more days, but when it's finally finished, it will feel awesome.
