Feature & Follow Friday......

Hello all, it's that day of the week where we learn new things about each other and discover new blogs along the way.  We also help each other by becoming followers of one another.  Normally that following would be through GFC (which would be great if you'd still take a few seconds to do), but with that being eliminated for certain blogs (a big boo-hiss to that) I now ask that you follow through a RSS Feed (or Twitter, FB, or email) which you can find to the right.  I want to thank all of you ahead of time who choose to become a follower and make sure to let me know in the comments if you're new so I doubly make sure to follow you back.  And now for this weeks get to know me question....

Q:  Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

A:  My answer's going to be very boring in that it's NO, I haven't bought a badly reviewed book.  My book budget is rather small so I don't want to waste money on anything I already KNOW is bad.  Too many good books out there to buy instead.

  1. If I see a negative review, I check to make sure there are also a LOT of other negative reviews for the book. If there is, then I'm less likely to check it out.

  2. I tend to be drawn to the bad reviewed books because I never like the ones that everyone raves about. It's weird!

  3. I haven't bought one because of a bad review, but I've definitely read them. Good point that the budget doesn't allow for bad purchases!

  6. New follower via GFC :) The budget is a problem for me too, usually. I tend to buy ebooks because of it, but sometimes get the badly reviewed ones out of curiosity :)

  7. A bad review definitely doesn't turn me off of a book - sometimes it actually piques my interest - though my book budget is rather small too, and so I normally have to go for things I'm sure I'll like!

  8. I take the bad reviews in stride if I've already considered reading the book. I like to read several reviews before actually deciding. Here's my FF Old Follower :)

  9. Hm.. that's probable the thing. I seldomly agree with other reviews, and generally I think that tastes differ, so I might give books that got negative reviews a chance. I'm probably more likely to read a book with many extreme reviews than one that was perceived as lukewarm. *g*

I avoid books that have a LOT of bad reviews, but otherwise I'm willing to give it a shot. Anytime someone reviews something, there is often a smidge of personal taste involved, and just talking to my friends I know that everyone's taste is a lot different!

My Answer: No, Reviews matter a lot to me. Not unless the book became controversial that I would really feel the need to read that book.

  12. Aren't all reviews kind of subjective anyway to the persons tastes? I mean, The Selection went viral at one point, but now seems to have calmed down.

    Happy Friday!

  13. Agreed - my book budget is rather small as well. Negative reviews haven't stopped me from reading books - but I'd rather check them out of the library first.

New follower here! Happy Friday :).
