MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:
Through two previous books Ms. McLean has invited us in to witness the ups and downs of the Preston brothers, made us feel like a part of the family, and with each turn of the page I fell a bit more in love with the complex men and their angsty journeys to HEA. This latest installment is no exception as the connection between a young boy and his nanny's daughter evolves through the years, putting them and us through the wringer as their hearts become irrevocably entwined in an epic romance. Bringing them together as children and seeing their love for each other mature had me fully invested in them and rooting for them every step of the way in a heartwarming and occasionally heartbreaking story.
Leo's the quiet and unassuming brother, the one who speaks only when he has something very important to say. For him actions speak louder than words and from the moment he and Mia come into contact he claims her as his...first as his friend and then as oh so much more. Leo himself might not understand just how deep his feelings run at first but he knows that his life is better with her in it which makes their separations through the years even more painful. Through everything though Leo's got a big heart, is caring and supportive, and would sacrifice all for those he claims as family...which is a strong theme running through this series. Seeing the interactions between family members charmed me and it left me longing to be a part of the family too. I adored Leo, found him a delicious hero, and cheered him on as he worked hard to reclaim Mia. He was darn-near flawless and it's a tough call as to who I love the most when it comes to the Preston brothers.
Like the other heroines brought into the embrace of the Preston family, Mia's a bit battered and bruised when we first meet her. A fatherless girl with a mother who has no time for her, but time enough to nanny the Preston children, she's full of insecurities over her looks and weight and it made for a miserable childhood. The only bright spots were courtesy of her amazing grandfather and her best friend Holden...them, and eventually Leo. It's a slow build between the two in a relationship that grew stronger with each teardrop and each heartbreaking exchange over the years as Mia finally started telling her truths in an angsty tale that pulled at my heartstrings non-stop. Her reveals were hard to hear at times, timely with the world right now, and it had me wanting to hug her repeatedly. Thankfully, she had Leo and the other Prestons to count on in a journey of second chances and empowering moments. Mia's a heroine who doesn't trust easily, she's been disappointed one too many times before, and her insecurities add to the years of misunderstandings that sometimes frustrated me. Despite my occasional frustrations I was rooting for Mia and Leo as they were perfectly imperfect together. It's a long journey to HEA for these two but it's an epic tale that broke me before building me back up in a timeless romance full of heart and soul.
This is an unforgettable story, very long but well-worth the length as the story pulled me in wholeheartedly from the very start. It starts off sweet but quickly evolves into a tale that played with my emotions, making me laugh and smile one moment before breaking my heart the next in an angsty dance of Mia and Leo's hearts. Leo's a quiet character with actions that spoke volumes. It's clear that he claimed Mia from the moment they met as children, but his feelings became stronger through the years as love entered the picture. He was always there for Mia, supporting her through every heartbreak, and it was his strong and silent support of her that gave me hope that they'd finally grab their hard-fought HEA. Surrounding this engaging main couple was an equally compelling cast of secondary characters, from Mia's loving grandfather to her bff Holden (a character I'd love to see more of as he's a sweet and sexy country boy), to the Preston family with their father leaving an especially lovely impression on me. The Preston clan again shows themselves to be the perfect family! Loving and supportive through thick and thin, witty and playful banter amongst themselves while offering a warm embrace to those who need a bit of care and acceptance to heal their bruised hearts. Though this story CAN be read on its own, readers will find it a much richer experience having read the two previous installments first. Through familial interactions readers discover a tight-knit family put through the wringer who came out stronger because of it in a story that pulled me along for the unforgettable ride! Ms. McLean has crafted yet another winner that I wholeheartedly recommend to readers wanting to see a love that spanned years in an epic tale that will touch on every emotion before leaving you happily satisfied while waiting for whatever this author has planned for next!
My rating for this is an A.
