LAUREN
I met him on the most devastating night of my life.
After twenty-four years, I discovered there's more than one way to break your marriage vows. The life I thought would always be mine was over, and and I’m now about to face it as a single woman in her forties.
I need a job, somewhere to live, and time to get to know this new version of me.
What I don't need is to be saved by Gabe, the gorgeous, thirty-five-year-old, blue-eyed God I met on a drunken girls' night out.
Do I?
GABE
The night I met her, something shifted inside me.
Burned and scarred in the past by a short-lived marriage, I like my relationships with women drama free and strictly confined to the bedroom. My focus and priority are on being a single parent to my daughter.
But I’m weary of the one and done life. I want something more, something real, with someone who sees past the way I look, beyond my reputation and doesn’t care about the worth of my family’s business.
What I don’t need is to be fighting to prove to Lauren it’s not me, her ex, or her past she needs saving from…it’s herself.
But I just can’t stay away.
Note: this book is a rewritten and expanded version of the previously published title, Saviour, book one.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THIS BOOK:

As an older female myself I'm drawn to romances that depict an age gap romance where the man is the one who's younger.  And in this romance the hero is delicious, completely entranced by the more mature heroine from the get-go.  The heroine too is a memorable one as she's a feisty and sassy woman despite the abusive past she left behind. Together they're an unforgettable pair with a journey that pulled at my heartstrings, a journey that kept me on the edge of my seat while I laughed and cried a time or two, before leaving me screaming due to this book's cliffhanger ending.

Lauren's been trapped in an abusive marriage, a marriage that readers learn about early on and in graphic depictions that made my heart hurt. The abuse crept up on her, insidiously leaving her self-esteem battered and bruised, along with her body.  It was a shameful secret that she kept hidden, until she couldn't any longer in a desperate journey of escape.  Once she decides to start over she'll have to rely on friends and a sexy Aussie as she rebuilds herself, both physically and emotionally.  Lauren's like many abuse survivors who stay in a relationship with the hopes that things will get better. While this frustrated me I could understand it as she'd been diminished for so long that she saw no other way to be.  But when it came to her very life she finally decided she was worth more in a terrifying escape without a backward glance.  Men are the last thing on her mind after that, but when a sexy younger man worms his way into her heart she can't help but make a connection to him in a romance that ultimately lays both of their hearts and minds bare.

Gabe is a delicious hero from the very start and you can't help but be drawn to him. When readers first meet him it's clear that he enjoys his single life, he's happy with having no connection to a woman.  But the moment he lays eyes on Lauren is the moment everything shifts inside him.  He becomes Lauren's immediate protector, giving her a safe place to rebuild her life and recuperate.  He may think he's not doing all he can for her, but he's pure perfection, a man with a kind heart and a strong protective nature.  Gabe may seem to have everything together, but he's got his own painful past to deal with, and his tale is a truly heartbreaking one that explains so much about who he is before meeting Lauren.  Being with her makes him a better man, let's him be the man he now wants to be in a sweet and sexy connection that charmed me while scorching up the pages.

This is a powerful read from the very start!  As a retelling of a previous work by this author this story has been expanded upon with characters more fully fleshed out.  It's a gritty read at times, depicting social issues in a realistic way with no sugarcoating.  The author pulled no punches while giving readers an unforgettable couple made stronger through their connection.  The romance between Lauren and Gabe is merely beginning in this story though, a story that is rocky at times because of her self-esteem issues.  The push and pull, the fears of starting over that Lauren pushes on to Gabe frustrated me but he never let it deter his support of her.  While I was rooting for them every step of the way this story was racing to its scream-worthy cliffhanger ending that has me now waiting with bated breath for where this story goes next.

My rating for this is an A.

AUTHOR INFO:

Lesley was born and raised in a small working-class town in Essex, just outside of East London. She’s married with three sons and in 2006 they all moved to the other side of the world, settling on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, about fifty kilometres outside of Melbourne, Australia.
Lesley is currently ‘a stay at home mum’, but in the past, she has worked at ‘good old Mark & Spencer’ for thirteen years and as a teacher’s assistant. As well as writing, Lesley loves to read and has been known to get through four or five books a week, when she’s not writing that is.
Her other interests are watching her boys play football… the round ball version. She’s happy to admit to being an addict of social media and owes a lot to her Facebook and Twitter family in promoting her book. Lesley is also rather partial to a glass or bottle of wine, a nicely chilled Marlborough Sav Blanc being her favourite.
Being a born and raised Essex girl, she will happily admit being a big fan of spray tans, manis, pedis, and is regularly waxed, tinted and sculpted, although she doesn’t own a pair of white stilettos.
